Since 1917, activities have been housed in central Stockholm in beautiful buildings which are currently protected as being of special historical interest. Associated colleges are found at various places in the Stockholm surroundings Haninge, Södertälje, and Kista. KTH co-operates operates with Stockholm University in Kista, the main Swedish resource centre of information technology, and in the AlbaNova Centre, with its departments of physics and biotechnology. 4

Two options: Following a number of courses Joining a research group Most courses are in Swedish, but quite a few are given in English and several international Masters programmes taught entirely in English. In a research group, the langauge will not be a problem, if you can speak and understand English. 8

5 How do I find courses to study? All KTH courses can be found online, with English language descriptions. Search for part of a course name: > International website > Student web > Programmes and courses > Search course or Look in the catalog/brochure Advanced Master Courses, which I leave a few copies of with your IGM coordinator. Ask your Japanese professor if he/she has any contacts. Look at the KTH website and especially at the homepages of the School of Industrial Engineering and Management for the different departments and research groups, Contact t me or our international ti exchange liaisons i to discuss your interests and get some names to contact for further discussions. 10

6 Other information for KTH exchange students There is much more general information about being an exchange student t at KTH on the international a website for students of KTH: Once you have been accepted as an exchange student, KTH sends you a Letter of Acceptance. Apply for visa well in advance can take up to 2 months. You have to arrange your own insurance for health care, accidents and liability. At immigration, you have to show sufficient funding for your stay (the IGM scholarship is just about enough). 11 Going to KTH on an IGM exchange? Recommended period of stay is 4-6 months with: Arrival in early August need to apply for housing before May 1 Arrival in Early January need to apply for housing before October 15 Other periods and times of arrival can maybe be arranged from case to case. No formal requirements (TOEFL) on English knowledge, but you will need to be able to express yourself in and understand spoken and written English. KTH will arrange their own tests if necessary. If you arrive in early August, there are intensive i Swedish language courses and many other activities for foreign students arranged by the student union. 12
