1 Name: Róbert Szabó Nationality: Hungarian CV 2015 February URL: EDUCATION 2008 May Communication of Science and Management of Research training, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest, Hungary 2004 Oct P h D, Astronomy and Particle Physics Doctoral School, Eötvös Loránd Univ., Budapest, Hungary, 'Numerical Modeling of the RR Lyrae Instability Strip' 1999 Feb MSc (Astronomy, Mathematics and Physics) Astronomy Department, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary, 'Investigating Pulsating Variable Stars in Open Clusters' ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2012 Nov senior research fellow, Research Centre for Astronomy Earth Sciences (MTA CSFK), Konkoly Observatory, Budapest, Hungary I mainly worked on Cepheids and RR Lyrae stars with Kepler, K2, CoRoT, and MOST space photometric data. I established that additional (most probably nonradial) modes are universal in RR Lyrae stars. I led the KASC working group of RR Lyrae and Cepheids. I have been engaged in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students Mar 2012 Nov research fellow, Konkoly Observatory, Budapest, Hungary I founded and since then has been leading the Hungarian Kepler group. My group published 53 high-impact papers, a paper in Science on a unique, triply eclipsing triple star among them. We got close to 1800 citations according to the ADS. My work revolutionized our understanding of RR Lyrae stars thanks to the ultra-precise measurements of the Kepler space telescope. I discovered and successfully modeled a new dynamical phenomenon, namely period doubling, which is closely related to the century old Blazhko-problem. The discovery led to a new explanation of the mysterious modulation of RR Lyrae stars May 2007 Mar postdoctoral fellow, Physics Department, University of Florida, USA I worked with prof. Robert Buchler on developing a multidimensional hydrocode to model nonradial pulsation. I developed a new method based on the Cepheid phase lag to identify pulsational modes and participated in a project to use double-mode Cepheids as stellar and galactic metallicity indicators Sep 2005 May research fellow, Konkoly Observatory, Budapest, Hungary I focused on numerical modeling of RR Lyrae stars, performed the first nonlinear double-mode (RRd) model survey, and solved the 'blue edge problem' of RR Lyrae stars. My work led to the conclusion that it is important to take into account evolutionary effects when modeling pulsation. 1
2 1998 Sep 2001 Sep junior research fellow, Konkoly Observatory, Budapest, Hungary I studied variable stars in open clusters, regularly observed with small (~1m) telescopes, led the characterization of the first CCD astronomical cameras in Hungary and wrote operation manuals for three telescopes at the Piszkés-tető Mountain Station of the Konkoly Observatory. FELLOWSHIPS AND AWARDS 2012 International Research Collaboration Award, University of Sydney, Australia János Bolyai Research Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences 2011 Young Researcher Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences 2006 Hungarian State Eötvös Fellowship Young Researcher Fellowship, Konkoly Observatory, Budapest, Hungary INVITED TALKS AND SEMINARS 2013 Aug IAU Symposium 301: Precision Asteroseismology, Wroclaw, Poland, Blazhko effect in Cepheids and RR Lyrae stars, invited review talk 2012 Jul Balaton Summer School in Physics, Balatonalmádi, Hungary, Exoplanets and Asteroseismology: Astrophysics with the Kepler space telescope, invited lecture 2011 Aug MIT seminar, MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA, Asteroseismology with Kepler, invited seminar talk 2011 Jul CfA SSP Seminar, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Cambridge, MA, USA, Period doubling in Kepler RR Lyrae stars, invited seminar talk 2011 Jul 4 th KASC Conference: From unprecedented data to revolutionary science, Boulder, CO, USA, Cepheid(s) in the Kepler field, invited talk 2010 Jun 3 rd KASC Conference: Kepler Asteroseismology in Action, Aarhus, Denmark, RR Lyrae Research in the Kepler Era, invited talk PUBLICATIONS Journal papers: 65 Conference proceedings 50 Circulars and other: 8 total: 123 cumulative impact factor: h-index: 28 No. of all citations: 2011 No. of independent citations: 890 Fig. 1.
