Please come to the school for a 9.30am start. You will need to drop your children off as normal and come into school through the main entrance and sign in. Children can come to school in their school PE Kit and their coloured team T-Shirt and stay in it all day. Reminder! Year 1 Trip Please ensure you have registered your permission for your child to take part in the Year 1 Trip to the Winchester Science Centre. You can register through SurveyMonkey and pay via ParentPay. Due to the half term break, the kitchen will be ordering stock on Monday so please make sure you register for a packed lunch if you wish the school to provide one. Congratulations! Congratulations to Mrs Harlow who had a baby boy this week. Mother and baby are doing well. Love My School Thank you to all the staff and parents who have volunteered to help at the Love My School afternoon today. We hope to get lots of jobs done around the school, whilst the children are entertained by a film. Water We still have children who are not bringing water bottles to school. Please do make sure your child has a bottle of water with them every day.

2 PTA News Friday 17th June sees our first ever Scootathlon take place at Mrs Bland's school. This fundraising event is open to all pupils and each year group will have their own race. Parents/carers are all welcome to come along and cheer the children on in their race. Tickets will go on sale shortly from the school office, please keep an eye out for their release date. We hope that as many of the children as possible will join in with this event per ticket Friday 15th July Summer Disco EYFS KS1 If you have any ideas on future fundraising or would like to volunteer some time at an event, please us at: Acorn (Nursery AM and PM) In Nursery this week we have been exploring the country of Australia. We looked for England at the top of the globe and found Australia at the bottom. We discovered we would need to fly on an aeroplane to get there and that we would need a passport, a ticket and a boarding pass. We made some amazing aeroplanes using pegs and lolly sticks and had fun measuring the length of different aeroplanes using unifix cubes and string. We found out that there are different animals living in Australia and learnt some of their names. We were able to hear the rhythm in the names and tap the simple rhythms using claves. We also learnt about the Aborigine people who live in Australia and had a go at their dot art and made some didgeridoos. We were very lucky in the morning nursery to have a visit from Jarro s mum, who brought in her real didgeridoo to show us and play for us. It was very heavy and sounded amazing. Thank you Mrs Colbourne! Maple and Beech News (Reception) This week we have been learning all about space! We began by reading the story of Whatever Next? in which Baby Bear imagined that he flew in a rocket all the way to the moon. We have learnt all about space travel, including how and why astronauts fly to the moon and what they wear on a space mission. We have also learnt some facts about the moon, such as what it s made of and we have found about the different planets in the solar system. We have had lots of fun re-enacting what we have learnt in our space themed role-play areas. Following on from learning about space, we then used our imaginations to think about the different places we would like to fly to. In maths we have been focussing on shape, in particular 3D shapes. We have built rockets using 3D shapes and have thought about which of the shapes would be most suitable and why. We have also played the Shape Shop game to encourage us to recall 3D shape names and their properties. In our outdoor sports sessions we have been working hard on learning the skills required for the different Sports Day activities. We are looking forward to showing you what we can do next Wednesday!

3 Birch and Willow (Year 1) This week in Year One we have been researching and finding out information about the Olympic Games. We have looked at the history and the meaning of the Olympic Rings. The children enjoyed looking at some famous athletes. In Maths we have been finding the missing numbers in addition and subtraction number sentences. We have compared the UK to Brazil and the children were amazed to compare the length of longest river in the UK to the longest river in Brazil. The children have been creating their own Olympic rings and discussing what is fair and unfair with sporting events in preparation for our Sports Day next week. The children have continued to create their own animated running races using 2Animate on Purple mash. Please can you ensure that your child has the correct PE kit in school. This includes a yellow t-shirt, navy shorts, socks and trainers. Hazel and Rowan News (Year 2) This week in year two the children have worked brilliantly coping with the end of Year Two assessments. They have consistently applied their knowledge and skills to answer questions. In their afternoon sessions, as well as taking part in PE and Games they have begun to think about a project they would like to research and write about that interests them. We have left it to the children to pick a topic and either work independently or with a partner to produce a project about their chosen topic. They will be using computers, laptops and books to research the information. It would be great if you could encourage them to research information at home ready for their work in school. Some children will be given the opportunity to present some of their topic in a presentation using PowerPoint on the computers. We hope to see you at the show casing where you will be able to read some of their fantastic work.

4 Monday 16 th May Forest School Nursery Butterflies and Caterpillars Both Nursery groups enjoyed boarding the woodland train and heading off to the seaside. At the seaside they enjoyed some paddling barefoot in the 'sea' and games of throwing balls in a bucket and welly throwing. Some of the children got to have a go in the hammock, which doubled as a space rocket to the moon! At the end of the session we all boarded the train again for a well earned drink and snack. Reception Chaffinches and Blackbirds We took some paints to the woods on Monday and many of the children enjoyed relaxing and creating their own pieces of art work in the sunshine. In addition to this we found lots of bugs - woodlice and beetles in particular and the children showed great care and concern for them. On Wednesday and Thursday afternoon we had our extra session so we practised our fire rules ready for the grand finale next week! Thank you so very much to Mrs Streeter and Mr Panting for joining us on Monday and to Amy's Grandad and Mrs Fox for coming on Wednesday and Thursday. It is so very important that parents/family members/friends help out by volunteering at Forest School. Heidi Evans. Woodwork club Monday 16 th May This week we were mostly drilling and using a screwdriver. All the children were busy sanding and decorating their wonderful creations. Next week we hope to make some sculptures and try our hand at pyrography. Gareth will run an additional Woodwork club session on Thursday the 26 th May from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. This is to replace the session missed when the school was closed due to the boiler breakdown. Gardening Club - Friday 13th May We had a lot of watering to do this week, including our edible wall garden and broad beans. The children helped to make a small world area for the children in Nursery and Reception and checked on the herbs that were planted last week.
