We are building a strong science department and need an exceptional teacher to support this development, contributing to the team s teaching methods and materials, and inspiring an understanding of the subject in our willing pupils. is a lively and driven place to work with exceptional colleagues across the departments to help you in your teaching practice and a firm belief in offering and supporting CPD for all our staff. 6 Job Description Teacher of Science Reports to: Head of Science Key purpose of the job To teach pupils in allocated classes in order to ensure that their learning is of the highest quality. Requirements of a classroom teacher Teach pupils within allocated classes, enhancing their learning and providing the opportunity for achievement for all pupils Planning and preparing tasks which challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest during lessons Monitor the academic progress of pupils within allocated classes and implement appropriate strategies to address underachievement To assess, record and report on the progress and attainment of all pupils within allocated classes To register the attendance of pupils in class To set appropriate homework To mark pupil s work and give appropriate and constructive feedback To research new topic areas, maintain up-to-date subject knowledge, and devise and write new curriculum materials Manage pupil behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and apply appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour Communicate with parents and carers over pupils' progress and participate in departmental meetings, parents' evenings and whole school training events Undergoing regular observations and participating in regular in-service training (INSET) as part of continuing professional development (CPD) Undertake critical self-evaluation and then participate in continuous professional development designed to enhance the quality of teaching or other working practices. Responsibilities of a form tutor To address any issues concerned with the wellbeing, personal development and academic progress of pupils within the tutor group To check uniform and general appearance on a daily basis To monitor the behaviour of pupils in the tutor group. Performance Management responsibilities All members of staff are required to participate fully in the school s performance management system.

8 Person Specification: Classroom Teacher Factors Essential Desirable Qualifications Qualified Teacher Status - Degree or equivalent. Good Honours degree (First or Second Class). Higher professional qualification. Experience Relevant teaching experience or teaching practice in the subject. Experience of teaching a wide range of abilities. 10 Curriculum At the, Key Stage 3 students undertake a two-year programme that covers all the National Curriculum subjects. Students will be taught in ability groups in the majority of subjects, ensuring that every child is taught at a level that matches their ability. During our three-year Key Stage 4 programme most students study the English Baccalaureate core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and a Humanities subject, such as Geography or History. A wide range of option subjects including visual and performing arts, ICT, Technology and PE supplement the core curriculum. About the Academy The Nottingham City Technology College opened in 1989 and became the in Primarily serving the residents of Hyson Green, the Academy is located on two sites. The Gregory Boulevard site is housed in a stunning, state-of-the-art building, designed by Norman Foster. The Sherwood Road site occupies a modern purpose built building with excellent facilities. In April 2014, the Torch Academy Gateway Trust began working with to help develop the academy further, ensuring the very best outcomes for all its students. All new staff within the Trust will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. Each school in the Trust has a designated senior member of the leadership team who is responsible for referring and monitoring any suspected case of abuse. CAREER DEVELOPMENT The Trust employs about 300 staff and has regular opportunities for progression with your own academy and across the other academies. We advertise all of our job vacancies on the Trust website and send out regular reminders to inform you of opportunities. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT All employees are supported and encouraged to undertake their own professional development as well as participate in the CPD programmes that are offered throughout the academies. CPD opportunities include shadowing leaders, observing other practitioners, coaching and mentoring opportunities as well as courses, conferences and staff meetings. PREPARATION, PLANNING AND ASSESSMENT OPPORTUNTITIES Primary class teachers have a full day (20%) each week when they are not class based. This full day (or equivalent 2 half days) is to support their preparation and planning as well as allow time to assess and support individual children or small groups to close gaps and ensure that all children make good progress. Secondary teachers also have 20% of time each week away from direct teaching to enable them to prepare and plan lessons, as well as opportunities for assessment and professional development. ANNUAL PROGRESSION THROUGH SALARY SCALES We reward and recognise good performance by progression through a salary scale for your job role. If you perform at an outstanding level you can progress by 2 points annually. FINAL SALARY PENSION SCHEME Teacher s Pension Scheme (TPS) and the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) are offered automatically to Teachers and support staff depending on your contract

12 terms. We encourage everyone to join the pension scheme as it is a very valuable part of your package of working in a school. DEATH IN SERVICE (life assurance) BENEFIT If you are a member of the pension schemes (either TPS or LGPS) then you benefit from death in service life assurance for 3 times your salary as long as you are an employee and working in the school. SUPPORTIVE SICK PAY SCHEME Obviously, we hope you don t need to use it, but in times of absence, you can be reassured that we do have a generous sick pay scheme that should support you when you need it. After 5 years service all employees are entitled to 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay. LONG SERVICE AWARD We value our long serving employees and recognise this length of service at 20 and 25 years with vouchers for long service. These are presented annually to staff who have service with the Trust or in the case of TUPE situations with the individual academy. GENEROUS MATERNITY AND PATERNITY LEAVE In the times of new family members joining you, we offer enhanced maternity and paternity benefits to enable you to send some time at home on full pay. We pay more than the statutory amounts for both maternity 6 weeks at 10% extra and 12 weeks at 50% extra. For paternity, we offer 2 weeks full pay. The individual rules are complicated so please see the policy for eligibility criteria. CHILDCARE VOUCHERS If you need to pay for childcare, we offer the childcare voucher scheme to help you save money. The vouchers are a Government-approved, tax-efficient way of paying for childcare. If you join the scheme, you can exchange up to 243 a month of your gross salary for childcare vouchers. If you would like more details please see the following link and ask HR for a form. FREE CAR PARKING Nottingham City Council introduced a Workplace Parking Levy (WPL) which means that every organisation has to pay a fee to the council for allowing employees to park at their place of work. The Trust took the decision to pay the WPL on behalf of the employees as we did not wish to charge staff to park at work. This is a benefit to staff who drive to work as it saves about 300 per year in parking fees

13 BUS PASS PAYMENT PLAN To help with your travel to work, we offer the NCT Travel Bus Pass which is a loan to buy your annual pass. We then deduct the cost of the loan from your monthly salary. It s a saving of 34 per month. TRAM 2 WORK SCHEME To help with your travel to work, we offer the Tram2Work scheme which is a loan to buy your annual pass. We then deduct the cost of the loan from your monthly salary. You can save nearly 200 per year by using this facility. For more information please use the following website. FREE ANNUAL FLU JABS The Trust provides annual flu vaccination to any employee who would like one. This is on a voluntary basis and is offered in September/October each year via at the respective academy. FREE TEA AND COFFEE IN THE STAFF ROOMS Staying refreshed and hydrated is important for staff wellbeing. We provide free tea and coffee facilities in all the staff rooms to make sure you are able to grab a drink and also to socialise with colleagues. LOW COST FOOD AT LUNCHTIME Our fabulous catering teams offer high quality, nutritious and low cost food at lunchtimes. It s a great value and convenient way to have some healthy options. HAIRDRESSING AND BARBER SERVICE AT VIVA SALON IN SHERWOOD RISE CAMPUS Our post-16 hairdressing students offer a great hairdressing service at the Aviva Salon in the Sherwood Rise campus. This is open to everyone to use and is very low cost for your hair treatments. You have the added benefit of helping our students practise their skills. GYM MEMBERSHIP AT THE DJANOGLY LEISURE CENTRE DLT staff can benefit from a subsidised membership at the leisure centre behind the academy on Gregory Boulevard. This arrangement is historical from when the school was built and is available to any staff with a Djanogly id card.

14 IRONING SERVICE If you need some help with your ironing, there is a service where a company collects and delivers your ironing from and to your academy for a small charge on a weekly basis.
