2 Welcome Welcome to ICON at First United Methodist Church. We are delighted that you have chosen to worship with us this morning. Founded in 1821, First Church is the oldest Protestant church in the area and the oldest Methodist church in Florida. This historic church, with four Sunday services, has a membership of 3200 and is overflowing with life. We hope you will consider becoming a member of our church family. You may join any Sunday by profession of faith or transfer of membership. A Family of Faith Series First Church is a family. We are a family bound by faith and fellowship, joining together in service to God, one another and our community. As a family, First Church has provided a place for Pensacola to worship and grow in Christ for over 193 years. We will celebrate our unique family, from the youngest to the oldest, during our worship services this April 27th through June 15th. We encourage you to come and be a part of this celebration and invite others to join our family! SECOND LESSON: Ephesians 1:15-23 Paul tells the Christians at Ephesus that God has raised Jesus from the dead and seated him at the right hand of the throne, putting all things under his feet and making him head over all things for the church. GOSPEL LESSON: Luke 24:44-52 At his ascension, Jesus gives the disciples an understanding of the Scriptures, and then gives them the commission that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in {Christ s} name to all nations.

5 Announcements No Wednesday Night Dinner There will be no Wednesday Night Dinner until The Wright Place is repaired from the recent flooding. Limited classes and activities (including Sanctuary Choir, Young Professionals and a few Christian Education classes) will continue meeting. Please contact your class leader to find out if your class is still meeting. Youth Talent Concert, June 1st Everyone is invited to Wesley Abbey tonight, where the youth will be presenting their annual Youth Talent Concert beginning at 7:00pm. Come early to see some of the youth s artwork on display in the lobby. The talent concert (free and open to the public) is a fun event featuring the diverse talents of our wonderful youth. Kids Night Out, This Friday Kids Night Out is this Friday, June 6th from 5:30pm to 9:00pm. Enjoy a night out while your kids have a fun night filled with games, crafts, music, playtime, pizza and a movie. Youth Choir volunteers and Youth Choir parents have an evening planned that you won t want your kiddos to miss. To make it even better, all proceeds benefit the FUMC Youth Choir Tour. Infants through 5th graders welcome. Registration forms are available in the education building and the church office. VBS Register Now, Donations Needed! June 8th-12th, 9:00am 12 noon (Preschool 4th Grade) Children are invited to join us for a week of Bible exploration, crafts, science, games and much more! Registration forms are available online, at Sunday morning registration tables or in the church office. Summer Splash (5th and 6th Grade) Summer Splash is a fun, messy, over the top vacation bible school on June 8-12 for students who have just completed 5th or 6th grade. Contact Denise Van Atta to learn more about how you can be involved. Mid-High Week (7th and 8th Grade) Mid-High Week is a special, action-packed week, June 8-12, for all students who have completed 7th or 8th Grade as of June The cost for the week is $65 and include snacks, activity and mission supplies and more. 6 Did You Know? Did you know that the season of Easter, or Eastertide, is a festival season in Christianity that commences on Easter Sunday for a period of fifty days, ending on Pentecost Sunday. The liturgical color of the season of Easter is white. Our service uses musical and visual arts to help deepen our experience of worship. + Mission Minded: We embrace the words of Matthew 5:16 and strive to share our faith, through love, in the community and the world. + Christ Centered: We strive to keep Christ at the center of all we do. Our focus is not so much about making Christ relevant to the world, but making the world relevant to Christ. Our worship is not about us, but about God. What Does Mean? ICON is the Greek word for image. Worship at ICON is highly visual and experiential with the large screens, candles and processional cross. The Bible proclaims that we are made in God s image (Genesis 1), but through our sin we have tarnished that image. We believe that Christ is the true image of God (Hebrews 1) and through him God is restoring us to our true image. The Bible says (1 John 3:2), What we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: that when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. Our hope is to be an ICON of Christ.
