1 Dear Prospective Applicant, Thank you for your interest in the Summer English as a Second Language (ESL) Institute at Northampton Community College (NCC). This program is designed for students, professionals, and community members with a basic level of English who want to expand their command of the English Language. We offer concentrated work on reading, writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation, and study skills that will prepare students to succeed academically at the college/ university level. NCC is one of the few community colleges in the country that offers on-campus housing. Students have the option to live in a multicultural environment within the NCC Residence Hall, minutes from their classes. Dining facilities, tutoring services, computer labs, and a state of the art fitness center are also available for student use. If you would like to live on campus during the summer, please fill out and return the enclosed Residence Life Application. Additionally, students are given the opportunity to participate in cultural trips which include staff guided tours to historical and cultural sites in Bethlehem, Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington D.C. Students who would like to participate in the cultural trips over the summer should complete the enclosed cultural trips application. Courses and programming are offered in two sessions in the summer. Students are welcomed to participate in one or both sessions. Session 1 will be held from May 18 June 26, 2015 and Session 2 will be held from July 6 August 13, Enclosed in this packet you will find visa application and residence life information, as well as a cultural trip and admissions application. CANCELATION AND REFUND POLICY NCC reserves the right to apply refunds against outstanding past-due balances owed to the college. Participants must inform NCC in writing if they choose to cancel their participation in the program. 4 APPLICATION INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Summer Sessions (F-1 VISAS) Thank you for your interest in attending Northampton. Any student who is or intends to be in the United States on a student visa (F-1) is considered an international student. In order to issue the application for the student F-1 Visa (SEVIS I-20 form), you must submit the following documents: 1. Application for admission (can be completed on our website: ( A. Completed application form B. $25 application fee C. Summer I applications preferred by April 1 st and Summer II by May 1 st. 2. Transcripts of High School and College Work. These records must include proof of graduation from high school or higher. 3. Proof of Financial Support. The student must prove that they have at least $ readily available to them for educational expenses. Acceptable sources of financial resources are saving accounts, checking accounts, money market accounts and certificates of deposit. If student is not being charged rent (or room and board), a letter must be submitted documenting such and student will only need to show $ readily available funds. A. "Certification of Finances" form (included in application packet) that confirms that the student understands the total cost of education and has adequate funds to carry themselves under normal conditions through the full program. AND B. A letter from a bank official or bank statements must accompany all figures indicated on the "Certification of Finances" form for verification. However, all documents must be dated within 6 months of application.
