The Fort offers its members an unsurpassed combination of tennis and swim opportunites for the entire family. The club features 6 plexipave tennis courts, a 25 meter Olympic SALT WATER pool with diving well, seperate baby pool, basketball, volleyball, shuffleboard, game room, snackbar, locker rooms and a play area. The Fort hosts competitive swim, diving and tennis teams. Over 180 children ages 5-18 participate on our swim and diving team coached by the areas best coaches. The club hosts 15 Womens USTA teams (2.5 to 4.0 NTRP) and 3 Philadelphia Womens Interclub teams. Additionally we have a large Junior tennis program, camps and adult tennis programs staffed by the areas top USPTA certified tennis professionals. The Fort s tennis and swim programs are renouned throughout the area as The Best. 2 PHILOSOPHY At Larry Hyde Summer Camps our main goal is to make our summer camps and programs fun for adults and children of all ages, backgrounds and interests. We welcome individual talents and provide an environment that encourages learning and personal growth. Our camps and programs provide the opportunity for everyone to participate in their favorite activities, try new things, develop skills and make new friends. Washington Swim & Tennis Club ( Located in Ambler, PA, Fort Washington Swim and Tennis Club offers 6 tennis courts that host our adult program and junior tennis camps. Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH Academy) Springside Chestnut Hill Academy is located in Chestnut Hill on the former grounds of The Wissahickon Inn, listed in the National Historic Registry. SCH Academy is known for its outstanding academic reputation but it also has extensive sports and arts facilities. The newly renovated campus provides 7 tennis courts, 6 international squash courts, 2 multiple use gymnasiums, 2 baseball diamonds, 5 full-size athletic fields, track, academic classrooms and a full-size ice skating rink. The camp is located in one of Philadelphia s most beautiful areas, easily accessible by public transportation. Springfield Middle School In addition to Fort Washington Swim and Tennis Club, our tennis program will utilize the eight lighted tennis courts at Springfield Middle School located just off the Springfield (Paper Mill Road) Exit of Rt Mount Saint Joseph Academy Located in Flourtown, PA, Mount Saint Joseph Academy offers 4 tennis courts for our tennis program. PROGRAM The Larry Hyde Tennis Camps have attracted junior players from all over the greater Philadelphia region. Many former students have advanced to compete on National and International levels. We are confident your camper(s) will see results, and make new friends and partners through our program. STAFF Larry Hyde Tennis Camp has earned a reputation of providing the highest quality tennis instruction. Most of our teaching staff are year-round USPTA and USPTR professionals. Our tennis instructors teach the latest techniques that allow campers to advance their skills further and faster. We make learning fun and fruitful. Steve Young, Director Steve Young is the Director of Tennis at Larry Hyde s Tennis Camp. He is the Head Professional at Magarity Tennis Club and is USPTA P-1 certified. In addition to over 30 years of teaching experience, Steve has a Tennis Teaching degree from Tyler Jr. College, one of the top tennis education programs in the country, and a Bachelors Degree from the University of Texas. Serving, returning, forehands, backhands and a series of more advanced skills are taught in a thorough progression that concentrates on learning reinforcement. In addition to physical skills, players are introduced to game strategies and proper court etiquette. JUNIOR AND ADULT PROGRAMS For our adults we offer private lessons, daily ladies clinics and evening adult classes. PROGRAM The summer is a great time to join old and new friends at day camp to have great fun! Campers, 6 to 14, are offered a variety of sports and other activities. Children have a great time and the best instruction in their favorite sports and activities every day! At the end of the week Campers look forward to the Camper Award Ceremony, treats and a T-shirt. STAFF Our camp directors are career educators who have, for years, devoted their time and energies to the educational, emotional and social development of children in schools and camps. Our senior instructional staff members are all experienced full-time teachers and coaches from some of the Delaware Valley s finest colleges and schools. The maturity of our staff enables children to thrive in a positive, safe, caring environment. John McArdle, Director For the past 31 years Coach McArdle has taught physical education to all grade levels at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. He served as head coach of baseball and basketball. John brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience working with children of all ages. Coach Mac returns for his fourteenth season as director of the camp. Tom Conkill, Assistant Director Jennifer Parker, Assistant Director CURRICULUM Each morning our campers are offered two or three sport clinics. Each period lasts for 50 minutes followed by a ten minute water/rest break. The afternoon session consists of instruction, swimming, inter-camp competition and special activities. Special Events During our eight-week season, our campers enjoy many special activities including competitive officiated games and inter-camp competition. ACTIVITIES During the sports activities, good sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game are emphasized. Campers are placed in a group according to age, developmental level and interest. Similarly, we encourage creativity and lots of enthusiasm in non-competitive activities. Activities include: Swimming, Basketball, Floor Hockey, Tennis, Soccer, GaGa, Baseball/Softball, Squash, Lacrosse, Ice Skating, Archery and other sports activities.
