1 DESIGN GUIDE UPDATE BULLETIN Los Angeles Unified School District Facilities Services Division Design Standards DATE: December 16, 2015 BULLETIN NUMBER: DG The following updates are to be incorporated and made part of the 2015 Design Guide: 1. Section 1.2.-Q.3 Design Deliverables Submittal Requirements, will be updated as follows: The 2015 version of the School Design Guide Section 1.2.Q.3, has been revised to read as follows: Design Deliverables Submittal Requirements a. Electronic Review Process: 1) An electronic review process will be utilized for each project. The Electronic Review Process is based on Bluebeam Revu Software. Refer to Electronic Review Process Guidelines for Design Teams, Design Managers and LAUSD Reviewers, which can be downloaded from the Design Standards Webpage under Studies and Reports. 2) LAUSD Design Managers will manage Bluebeam Studio review sessions at each design submittal required by the A-E agreement. 3) PDF Drawing files submittal: a) Each PDF file shall not exceed 95MB. b) All drawings, specifications, required reports and documents shall be bound in one PDF; and bookmarked by discipline. As the number of pages in the submittal increases, PDF s may need to be broken out into disciplines ex. A, S, C, and M, E, P. c) Each sheet in the PDF shall be labeled and bookmarked correctly per sheet number in the title block. d) PDF s shall be flattened. 4) PDF Specifications / Reports and or required Documents Submittal: a) All pages shall be bound to one PDF; bookmarked by section number and description etc. b) PDF s shall contain searchable text. c) In addition to PDF s for electronic review, Specifications shall be submitted in Word Track Changes format, so any Architect-Engineer editing of the District s Guide Specification can be clearly identified. Specifications not submitted in Track Change format will be rejected. 5) Additional Requirements: a) Drawing s title block: All text relating to sheet numbers and titles must be horizontal in orientation. 2 b) Location of page number and title must be always in the same location throughout the entire drawing set, specification and any other required document. c) Font type must be consistent on drawings sheet numbers and titles. 6) With each design phase submittal, submit one (1) CD/DVD with Electronic CAD files in *.dwg, (bind all drawings). 7) Refer to 2.4, Environment and Sustainability, for detailed requirements of the CHPS Scorecard. 8) All submittal requirements are as applicable to the specific project and subject to clarification / modification as requested by the project Design Manager. All deliverables shall be submitted to project Design Manager for Distribution. 9) Excel spreadsheet of the Submittal Requirements checklists can be downloaded from the following link: Reason for Update: Review process was changed to electronic. 2. One CD/DVD with PDF and CAD files per section 1.2-Q.3.a. Include the documents listed below, as applicable to project, including A-E responses to Site Analysis Phase comments. Preliminary Basis of Design (Architectural, Civil, Landscaping, Structural, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Food Services, Graphics-Signage, Theater), Checklist of Offsite Work, (4.7 of this Guide) signed by the Architect and the Civil Engineer, Utilities and Easements, Preliminary Schematic Design Checklist (4.2 of this Guide) signed by the Architect, AE responses to Site Analysis Phase comments (Excel format), CHPS Scorecard, Savings by Design Incentive Program and Renewable Energy Study. Final Schematic Design Phase Refer to 4.3, Submittal Requirements: Final Schematic Design Phase. Page 2 of 5

CHPS Scorecard, Record of application of Savings by Design Incentive Program and Renewable Energy Study. Design Development Phase Refer to 4.4, Submittal Requirements: Design Development. Two Half-size sets of drawings for Design Management One 20 by 30 (minimum size) perspective color rendering with mat and frame with glass (applicable for new buildings and major modernizations only), one full-size color copy, six 8-1/2 by 11 color copies and an electronic copy at a minimum of 300 dpi resolution. 24 by 36 minimum, color and material boards. One CD/DVD with PDF and CAD files per section 1.2-Q.3.a. Include drawings and documents listed below, as applicable to project, including A-E responses to Final Schematic Design comments. Basis of Design (Architectural, Civil, Landscaping, Structural, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Food Services, Graphics-Signage, Theater), Checklist of Offsite Work, (4.7 of this Guide) signed by the Architect and the Civil Engineer, Utilities and Easements, Preliminary Structural Calculations, Design Development Checklist (4.4 of this Guide) signed by the Architect, AE responses to Schematic Design comments (Excel format), and Specifications Table of Contents. Proposed Deviation/Substitution Requests, if applicable. HVAC Load Estimates, HVAC Calculations per CBC Energy Efficiency Standards, Plumbing Calculations, Lighting Calculations, Electrical Title 24 Compliance, Catalog Cut Sheets, CHPS Scorecard with supporting references, and Savings by Design. 50% Construction Documents Phase Refer to 4.5, Submittal Requirements: 50% Construction Documents. Two Half-size sets of drawings for Design Management One CD/DVD with PDF and CAD files per section 1.2-Q.3.a. Include drawings and documents listed below, as applicable to project, including A-E responses to Design Development comments. Updated Basis of Design (Architectural, Civil, Landscaping, Structural, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Food Services, Graphics-Signage, Theater), Checklist of Offsite Work, (4.7 of this Guide) signed by the Architect and the Civil Engineer, Record Reports (utility company, public agency and fire department), Utilities and Easements, Storm Water Calculations, Structural Calculations, 50% Construction Documents Checklist (4.5 of this Guide) signed by the Architect, AE responses to Design Development comments (Excel format), Specifications in Track format and updated ACU s Accessibility Survey Document. Final Basis of Design (Architectural, Civil, Landscaping, Structural, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Food Services, Graphics-Signage, Theater), Checklist of Offsite Work, (4.7 of this Guide) signed by the Architect and the Civil Engineer, Utilities and Easements, Final Structural Calculations, 100% Construction Documents-DSA Submittal Checklist (4.6 of this Guide) signed by the Architect, AE responses to 50% CD comments (Excel format), Specifications in Track format and updated ACU s Accessibility Survey Document. Signed checklists by Architect and Engineer for Submittal Requirements checklists for Civil (4.8), Plumbing (4.9), Mechanical (4.10) and Electrical (4.11). Post Construction Storm Water Management Plan and Excel sheet for Waterboard Post Construction Water Balance Calculator. Final HVAC Load Estimates, Final HVAC Calculations and Title 24 Compliance, Final Plumbing Calculations, Fire Protection Hydraulic Calculations, Fire Alarm Calculation, Lighting Calculations, Electrical Title 24 Compliance, Catalog Cut Sheets (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical), CHPS Scorecard with supporting references, and Savings by Design Incentive Program. DSA Application Form, DSA checklists (Structural and Fire Life & Safety), Testing and Inspection List, DSA Energy Review, Local Fire Authority Approval. Provide the following documents for the Facilities Plans and Records: SP-Diagrams in AutoCAD.dwg format, showing all levels, rooms, and, in addition roof levels; fully dimensioned according to LAUSD standards (exterior facing wall to centerline of interior wall). Indicate room name and number of each space room identifiers should match those provided on any schedules e.g. equipment, finishes. Perimeter lines of building levels, rooms and roofs shall be edited as closed P-lines (polygon lines). For existing facilities projects with partial floor reconfigurations, drawings should show new configurations accurately placed within floor and building boundaries Site plan in AutoCAD.dwg format, showing all utility lines, meters, emergency shut-off valves, property lines, building perimeters, athletic fields, playgrounds, parking and paving edges. Freeze layers containing information not applicable to this submittal. Perimeters from which areas can be defined shall be edited as closed P-lines without overlaps. Utility lines shall be edited as P-lines. DSA Submittal Package Refer to 4.6, Submittal Requirements: 100% Construction Documents-DSA Submittal. Include drawings, specifications, and documents listed for 100% CD-DSA Submittal, as applicable to project, including AE responses to 100% CD comments: Page 4 of 5

DSA form DSA-103, Statement of Structural Tests and Special Inspection. Three full-size sets of drawings. Three sets of specifications. One set of structural calculations.
