2 CSC s Business Analytics Challenge CSC is a conglomerate of more than 140 companies in over 30 countries, organized by business units. Acquisition history has led to multiple ERP solutions (SAP and non-sap). Global reporting labor intensive and time-consuming. CSC s business analytics/reporting objectives: Build a common platform to better support business and future growth Improve company performance reporting Reduce labor costs and increase audibility Improved global financial reporting Introduce innovative, harmonized and common reporting globally 2

3 Learning Points CSC was an early adopter of the SAP BusinessObjects reporting tools beginning with BPC. OptimalSol called upon for key support resources. SAP BPC global financial system used to collect and monitor internal IT operating costs (decommissioning of Microsoft Access based model for elaborate allocations to profit centers), including enhanced features to assist with planning and forecasting. Aggressive deployment of the entire SAP Business Objects suite due to an identified business analytics gap aided by OptimalSol support. Leveraged an enterprise-wide analytics solution that is tightly integrated with our Global SAP Business Warehouse instance and SAP Enterprise Portal. 3

19 Key Learning's 1. Timing is everything. Drive for cost savings and efficiencies makes for a strong business case. 2. Ensure support of the company influencers to help smooth development pathway. CIO was on board first, followed by CFO and CEO soon after. 3. Gain user buy-in. Key users on Project Board, Project envoy, regular project updates/progress rpts. 4. Ensure back-end systems are up to date. Not upgrading data warehouse to current version before led to rework. 5. Well defined (but not perfect) data structures. Pre-existence of a data warehouse meant data structures were mostly defined. 6. Anticipate the need for technical skills in your reporting departments. No time for steep learning curves bring in consulting services. 7. Closely monitor performance. Consider breaking-up large complex scripts into manageable scripts. 19
