1 Marie Skłodowska-Curie scientific award The French Institute in Poland and the French Embassy organize in partnership with SAINT-GOBAIN, EDF, AREVA, DCNS and THALES ALENIA SPACE the «Marie Skłodowska-Curie scientific prize awarding great Polish research in the field of materials science. Aim of the contest Eligible candidates The aim of the «Marie Skłodowska-Curie scientific prize is to award great Polish research in the field of materials science. Laureates will be selected following a poster contest and according to their scientific records. This award addresses Polish researchers under the age of 45, who are PhD holders and who carried out research in a Polish laboratory (or within the framework of French-Polish cooperation). The prize addresses all the fields of science research that can be applied to materials science (production, studies, analysis, characterization, calculations and simulations, ageing, structural mechanics, etc.). Five categories of award are proposed, depending on the business partner. Each award consists in a one-month research stay in France in a public or private laboratory and a trip (both ways) to the location of the research stay. The researcher will have his travel costs covered (plane and train), and will receive the amount of euros (1 600 euros of per diem and an additional allowance for an amount of euros). Prize - Saint-Gobain/French Embassy/French Institute in Poland award: addresses a researcher working on the following fields: building materials (gypsum, cement, mortar); polymeric materials ; materials obtained from green chemistry, natural materials, materials with remarkable properties (ceramic, glass, vitroceramic ); modelling of materials properties; materials characterization; thin layers with remarkable properties (TCO, OLEDS, optical layers, micro and nanostructured layers, photo and electronic controlled devices); material processing (deposition, CVD, sputtering); catalysis, depolluting materials, catalytic materials. The research stay will take place at Saint-Gobain research and development centre at Aubervilliers (93), near Paris. - 2 AREVA-EDF/French Embassy/French Institute in Poland awards: address two researchers working on materials for energy purposes; nuclear materials; materials for plasmas and particle physics; modelling of materials properties; materials characterization. The researchers have the choice to do their research stay in any institution in France or at the Material Ageing Institute (MAI) in Paris (Renardieres) if their skills are matching the research fields of the MAI. - THALES ALENIA SPACE/French Embassy/French Institute in Poland award: addresses a researcher working on materials for space and aeronautics; composite materials; materials with remarkable properties (ceramic, glass, vitroceramic ); thin layers with remarkable properties (TCO, OLEDS, optical layers, micro and nanostructured layers, photo and electronic controlled devices); material processing (deposition, CVD, sputtering); modelling of materials properties; materials characterization; materials for electronics; microelectronics; supraconductors. The research stay will take place at THALES research centre, TRT Palaiseau. 1

2 - DCNS/French Embassy/French Institute in Poland award: addresses a researcher working on corrosion; especially marine corrosion; materials with remarkable properties; modelling of materials properties; materials characterization. The researcher can choose any institution in France for the research stay. Step I : The candidates will send their application form by to the address of the Maria Skłodowska-Curie contest with a poster popularizing their research using the provided template until 1 st may Procedure Step II : A scientific jury will evaluate the scientific quality of the poster and the scientific records based on five scientific publications chosen by the candidate. The jury will select the most worthy laureates for each prize. Step III : The laureates will be invited to a ceremony in June 2015 at the French Embassy in Poland in order to receive their prize during a French-Polish research forum. Scientific and university cooperation service #1 General resolutions 1. This award addresses Polish researchers under the age of 45 on 1 st May 2015, who carried out research in a Polish laboratory (or within the framework of French-Polish cooperation). 2. The contest concerns all the fields of scientific research that can be applied to materials science, with a specific domain depending on the award category. 3. The thesis award will result of a contest of posters and evaluation of scientific records organized in 2 steps detailed below in the following sections: Application: submission of the applications by 1 st May Evaluation: examination of the applications by the jury of the contest. The selected posters will be published on the website of the French Institute from 30th May As a result of the contest, prizes will be awarded to the nominated candidates. The content and the conditions of awarding of the prizes are detailed below. 2

3 #2 Applications 1. The candidates will download their application form from the contest section of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie award on the website of the French Institute in Poland. 2. The candidates will apply to the contest by sending their application by to: To be considered complete, each application must include: 1 CV The application form A selection of 5 scientific publications chosen by the candidate and released in international journals with reading committee. A poster presenting the scientific research using the template available online. 3. It is not necessary to attach any extra document to the application. Incomplete applications or applications that do not respect the provided models/templates will not be taken into consideration. 4. The scientific and university cooperation service of the Embassy has the right to exclude applications whose content does not correspond to the topic of the contest or which have been sent after the deadline (1st May 2015). 5. Candidates will be officially registered after examination of the conformity of their application by the French Embassy. The latter will notify to candidates by mail their final registration and will publish their poster in the dedicated section of the website of the French Institute in Poland. #3 Selection of candidates 1. The applications will be evaluated by a multidisciplinary jury composed by the following members: 4 experts in scientific research A journalist from the scientific press A representative of the French Embassy A representative appointed by each business partner 2. The jury will evaluate the applications, based on the following criteria: Quality of the poster: respect of the model, general harmony, clarity, balance between accuracy of the scientific content and comprehension for an adult audience Link of the research with the field of materials science Scientific quality of the research and originality of the solutions proposed Quality of the scientific records and of the 5 scientific publications chosen by the candidate 3

Candidates will be ranked and the best candidates will receive information about the results of the contest, which will be only effective after the signature of a contract with the French Institute in Poland. This contract will state the modalities of use of the prize. #4 Content and procedure of awarding of the prizes 1. The researcher can choose any institution in France for the research stay. 2. The conditions of payment of the per diem and the procedures of reservation of the flight tickets will be detailed in the contract concluded between the laureate and the French Institute in Poland. This contract will be effective after submission of a letter from the hosting laboratory in France. 4

5 3. The prize awarded does not give the laureate the right for any kind of contestation or for any counterpart of the prize in money, or for any exchange. In case of force majeure or sickness or accident that will prevent the laureate from going in France,, the laureate will be able to renounce once and for all to his/her prize, on presentation of a medical certificate. The scientific and university cooperation service will thus proceed to the nomination of a new laureate according to the list established by the jury of the contest. 5# Prize ceremony 1. The laureates commit to participate in the reception organized at the French Embassy in order to receive their prize and during the French-Polish research forum. The French Institute in Poland will cover the costs of transport of the laureates if they are living outside Warsaw area. The laureates will receive an allowance of 500 PLN for their participation in the prize ceremony. 2. The conditions of reservation of the tickets will be detailed in the contract concluded between the laureate and the French Institute in Poland. 6# Final resolutions 1. The forthcoming communication concerning the nominated researchers (posters, articles) will mention the prize and its sponsors. 2. Any application will have to respect the terms of the contest rules. 3. The final results will be published on the website of the French Institute in Poland from 30th May The laureates commit to provide the scientific and university cooperation service of the French Institute in Poland with a report of their scientific stay in France within a 1-month delay after the end of their stay. This report will also be transmitted by the scientific and university cooperation service to the business partners. With their agreement for receiving the prize, the laureates cede their copyrights to the organizers and partners of the contest regarding their poster created for the contest, as well as for their report of their scientific stay in France (videos and photos included) and allow them to use their name and surname for communication and promotional purposes for an indeterminate period. This use does not provide any right for compensation apart from the prize awarded. 5
