Thanks for your suppawt! Thank you for helping to raise funds for Guide Dogs SA.NT. Each year, generous and dedicated supporters help change the lives of individuals living with a disability by holding their own fundraising events for Guide Dogs SA.NT. Guide Dogs SA.NT provides services at no cost to clients and we would not exist without the generosity of our supporters. Before you start, you will need to review these guidelines to ensure your upcoming fundraising event is not only successful and fun, but also in accordance with the law. Guide Dogs SA.NT is legally required to approve and authorise all volunteer fundraising activities. You can select how you wish your event to help. As a fundraiser you may select a specific project to target your proceeds to. These include: Sponsor the raising and training of a puppy to become a Guide Dog or Autism Assistance Dog. Help raise funds for Lifeskills Camps for children with vision loss. Raise funds for much-needed equipment such as specialised technology to help individuals with a vision and/or hearing loss. Help fund equipment for the Puppy Development Centre; we are always in need of educational toys and equipment to give pups the best start in life. The costs are high, but the rewards are priceless! There are four main ways you can support Guide Dogs SA.NT: Organise your own fundraising activity Let your imagination and creativity guide you! Past events have included trivia nights, sausage sizzles, City to Bay Fun Run and morning teas. A list of ideas is attached. Participate in a Guide Dogs SA.NT event Guide Dogs SA.NT has a range of fundraising events throughout the year, including Badge Day. We can provide merchandise which you can sell on our behalf. A special gift on a special day Getting married or having a birthday and you already have everything you need? You can ask your family and friends to donate on your behalf to Guide Dogs SA.NT. Workplace giving Fundraising is a great way to get workplaces to come together! Ideas include casual Fridays, morning teas and donation matching. This pack contains Helpful guidelines for planning a fundraising event/activity for Guide Dogs SA.NT Frequently asked questions Application to Fundraiser (Form 1) Budget template (Form 2) Donated items document (Form 3) Suggested wording for letters (Info Sheet 1) 100 Fundraising Ideas (Info Sheet 2)
Guide dogs SA.NT Quick Facts We receive just over 30 percent government funding for the vital services we provide to the community. It costs approximately $30,000 to fully train a Guide Dog. $25 will buy a quality leather dog s collar. $40 is enough to provide a vision-impaired person with a folding mobility cane. $50 is enough to provide a high-visibility raincoat for a Guide Dog. $75 will provide a new Guide Dog user with a Guide Dog Instructor for an hour. $100 is enough to vaccinate a dog against deadly diseases like distemper. $250 is enough to purchase a special harness, the sensitive piece of equipment through which Guide Dogs lead and communicate with their users. $390 will provide an electronic Miniguide. $850 buys a pedigree puppy who will one day become a life-changing Guide Dog. All of these services are provided free of charge to the community.
Guide to fundraising for Guide Dogs SA.NT BEFORE THE EVENT Decide on an event/activity You might already have an idea in mind. If not, see our 100 fundraising ideas list in this pack. Contact us Guide Dogs SA.NT is legally required to approve and authorise all volunteer fundraising activities. Once your event is approved, Guide Dogs SA.NT will provide you with a letter giving you confirmation of your legal authority. This is issued following receipt and approval of your fundraising application form, which can be found at the back of this pack. Please make sure you keep us informed of any major detail changes. Responsibility The fundraiser will be run in the name of the person listed on the authorisation form and will be solely responsible for the activity. Guide Dogs SA.NT are not able to take a coordination role in all these activities, and our staff cannot assist in solicitating prizes, organising publicity or providing goods or services to assist the Event Coordinator in the running of the fundraiser/event. The fundraiser does not have the right to the name Guide Dogs SA.NT nor are the fundraisers able to raise funds in those names. This means you cannot call your event The Guide Dogs SA.NT Quiz Night however you can call it an event supporting Guide Dogs SA.NT. Plan your budget It is important to develop a budget so you can plan for your expenses and develop a fundraising goal. Developing a budget can often uncover items you need for your event that you have otherwise overlooked. Having a target that expenses are no more than 30% of total funds raised is optimal. MONEY FUNDRAISED EXPENSES = TOTAL DONATION TIP: To help you get started, there is a budget template available with this pack. Getting local businesses involved Expenses and other costs often impact the final amount you are able to donate to Guide Dogs SA.NT. However there are many businesses out there that are often willing to donate goods or give you a discount if they know that their product will be used for fundraising. Guide Dogs SA.NT is regularly speaking to companies regarding their support. As such, please do not approach the national or state office of a company for prizes or sponsorship without prior consultation with Guide Dogs SA.NT. Guide Dogs SA.NT has developed some standard wording that you can send to local businesses to ask them for a donation to your event and this can be found at the back of this pack. Our team cannot assist in solicitating prizes or goods and services for your event/activity.
Promote your event There are many ways that you can promote your event. Family and friends might be able to help by distributing flyers to their workplace or inviting their friends to a Facebook event. If you would like some help, we have a range of flyer templates and logos that you can use upon request. Any placement of our logo must be approved by Guide Dogs SA.NT. Guidelines on how to use the logo are supplied upon request. Please ensure you make it clear that the fundraising activity is not run by Guide Dogs SA.NT, but instead is an activity to raise funds for donation to Guide Dogs SA.NT. We can also include your event/activity s details on our website: Insurance Guide Dogs SA.NT has public liability insurance to cover most fundraising activities. You will be covered once you have received a letter from Guide Dogs SA.NT confirming your authority to fundraise as well as a copy of the public liability certificate. Guide Dogs SA.NT reserves the right to refuse authority for events that are deemed dangerous or unacceptably risky. Depending on your event, you may also need to consider arranging additional public liability insurance of your own. Laws and legislations All fundraising activities must comply with Australian laws and regulations. There are a variety of licences you may need to apply for in order to host your event, including gaming licences, liquor licence and food preparation. Each fundraising activity is unique and we encourage you to contact the Department or Licenser in your state for more information. TIP: Websites like EveryDay Hero allow individuals to set up their own online donation page.
Guide to fundraising for Guide Dogs SA.NT DAY OF THE EVENT Running sheet Before the big day, develop a running sheet of everything that you will do on the day. This can include who is required when, things that need to be collected on the day and put time aside if there is any setting up at the start of the day and end of the day. About the cause Talk about why you are supporting Guide Dogs SA.NT or provide information about the organisation or the specific program you are supporting. We can provide you with information and brochures, as well as a quick fact sheet that will help you answer frequent questions. Keeping track of money You must comply with the Charitable Fundraising Act and regulations in your state. As the fundraiser, you are responsible for all financial aspects of the activity/event. You must provide us with an accurate estimate of your income and expenses associated with your fundraiser and keep accurate financial records, including receipts and donation details. It is always easier to keep records as you go. Receipts We can provide receipt books to you for your use. All receipt books used and unused must be returned to Guide Dogs SA.NT, 251 Morphett Street, Adelaide SA, There are two types of official Guide Dogs SA.NT receipts that can be issued: a) A non-tax-deductible receipt (brown receipt book). This is for when the person gets something in return for giving (for example a raffle ticket, entry to an event, auction purchases). This support is not tax-deductible. b) A tax-deductible receipt (blue receipt book). This is issued for a straight donation. That is, when the donor receives nothing back in return (e.g. straight monetary donation or donation of a prize to be used in the fundraiser to benefit the Foundation). If the donation is over $2, then the donation is tax deductible. You as the fundraiser are responsible for issuing the correct receipt. If in doubt, please refer to the Australian Tax Office website under tax deductible gifts. Link: content/33650.htm&page=2&h2 TIP: For record keeping: a simple way to keep track of the financial details of your event is to keep a folder with a number of plastic sleeves. Use individual sleeves to keep receipts, bank deposit stubs, cheques donated, donor sponsorship/tally sheets.
