18 Prt Nmes nd Functions 18 Replcing the remote control btteries If delys in the responsiveness of the remote control occur or if it does not operte fter it hs been used for some time, it probbly mens tht the btteries re becoming flt. When this hppens, replce them with new btteries. Hve two AA size mngnese or lkline btteries redy. You cnnot use other btteries except for the AA size mngnese or lkline. Attention Mke sure you red the following mnul before hndling the btteries. s Sfety Instructions Remove the bttery cover. While pushing the bttery comprtment cover ctch, lift the cover up. Cution Check the positions of the (+) nd (-) mrks inside the bttery holder to ensure the btteries re inserted the correct wy. If the btteries re not used correctly, they could explode or lek cusing fire, injury, or dmge to the product. c Replce the bttery cover. Press the bttery comprtment cover until it clicks into plce. b Replce the old btteries with new btteries.

21 Instlling the Projector 21 Instlltion Methods The projector supports the following four different projection methods. Instll the projector ccording to the conditions of the instlltion loction. Project imges from in front of the screen. (Front projection) Project imges from behind trnslucent screen. (Rer projection) Wrning A specil method of instlltion is required when suspending the projector from ceiling (ceiling mount). If it is not instlled correctly, it could fll cusing n ccident nd injury. If you use dhesives on the Ceiling mount fixing points to prevent the screws from loosening, or if you use things such s lubricnts or oils on the projector, the projector cse my crck cusing it to fll from its ceiling mount. This could cuse serious injury to nyone under the ceiling mount nd could dmge the projector. When instlling or djusting the ceiling mount, do not use dhesives to prevent the screws from loosening nd do not use oils or lubricnts nd so on. Do not cover the projector's ir intke vent or ir exhust vent. If either of the vents re covered, the internl temperture could rise nd cuse fire. Suspend the projector from the ceiling nd project imges from in front of screen. (Front/Ceiling projection) Suspend the projector from the ceiling nd project imges from behind trnslucent screen. (Rer/Ceiling projection) Attention Do not use the projector on its side. This my cuse mlfunctions to occur. An optionl ceiling mount nd ttchment plte re required when suspending the projector from ceiling. s "Optionl Accessories" p.121 The defult Projection setting is Front. You cn chnge from Front to Rer from the Configurtion menu. s Extended - Projection p.84 You cn chnge the Projection mode s follows by pressing down the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control for bout five seconds. Plce the projector on level surfce. If the projector is tilted the projected imge is lso tilted. Screen Size nd Approximte Projection Distnce Projection size is determined by the distnce from the projector to the screen. See the illustrtions on the right to select the best position ccording to the screen size. The illustrtions show the pproximte shortest distnce t mximum zoom. The port nme, loction, nd connector orienttion differ depending on the source being connected. Connecting Computer To project imges from computer, connect the computer using one of the following methods. A B C When using the supplied computer cble Connect the computer's disply output port to the projector's Computer port. You cn output udio from the projector's speker by connecting the udio output port on the computer to the projector's Audio port using commercilly vilble udio cble. When using the supplied USB cble Connect the computer's USB port to the projector's USB (TypeB) port using the supplied USB cble. You cn send the computer's udio with the projected imge. When using commercilly vilble HDMI cble Connect the computer's HDMI port to the projector's HDMI port. You cn send the computer's udio with the projected imge. Simply by connecting the projector to computer vi USB cble, you cn project imges from the computer. This function is clled USB Disply. s "Projecting with USB Disply" p.31

25 Connecting Equipment 25 Connecting Imge Sources To project imges from DVD plyers or VHS video nd so on, connect to the projector using one of the following methods. A B C When using commercilly vilble video cble Connect the video output port on the imge source to the projector's Video port. You cn output udio from the projector's speker by connecting the udio output port on the video equipment to the projector's Audio port using commercilly vilble udio cble. When using the optionl component video cble s "Optionl Accessories" p.121 Connect the component output port on the imge source to the projector's Computer input port. You cn output udio from the projector's speker by connecting the udio output port on the video equipment to the projector's Audio port using commercilly vilble udio cble. When using commercilly vilble HDMI cble Connect the HDMI port on the imge source to the projector's HDMI port. You cn send the imge source's udio with the projected imge. VIDEO Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr L-Audio-R Attention If the input source is on when you connect it to the projector, it could cuse mlfunction. If the orienttion or shpe of the plug differs, do not try to force it in. The device could be dmged or could mlfunction. If the source you wnt to connect to hs n unusully shped port, use the cble supplied with the device or n optionl cble to connect to the projector. When using commercilly vilble 2RCA(L/R)/stereo mini-pin udio cble, mke sure it is lbeled "No resistnce".

26 Connecting Equipment 26 Connecting USB Devices You cn connect devices such s USB memory, the optionl Document Cmer, nd USB comptible hrd disks nd digitl cmers. Using the USB cble supplied with the USB device, connect the USB device to the USB (TypeA) port on the projector. When the USB device is connected, you cn project files on the USB memory or digitl cmer using Slideshow. s "Slideshow exmples" p.53 Attention If you use USB hub, the connection my not operte correctly. Devices such s digitl cmers nd USB devices should be connected to the projector directly. When connecting nd using USB-comptible hrd disk, mke sure you connect the AC dptor supplied with the hrd disk. Connect digitl cmer or hrd disk to the projector using USB cble supplied with or specified for use with the device. Use USB cble less thn 3 m in length. If the cble exceeds 3 m, Slideshow my not function correctly. Removing USB devices After finishing projecting, remove USB devices from the projector. For devices such s digitl cmers or hrd disks, turn off the device nd then remove it from the projector.

27 Connecting Equipment 27 Instlling the Wireless LAN Unit Remove the wireless LAN unit cover. b Instll the wireless LAN unit. d Secure the wireless LAN unit cover with the screw supplied. c Attch the wireless LAN unit cover, nd then turn over the projector.

29 Projecting Imges 29 From Instlltion to Projection This section explins the procedure for connecting the projector to computer with the computer cble nd projecting imges. e f Turn on your computer. Chnge the computer's screen output. When using lptop computer, you need to chnge the screen output from the computer. Hold down the Fn key (function key), nd press the b key. The method for chnging differs depending on the computer being used. See the documenttion supplied with the computer. When turning off the projector, press the [t] button twice. b c d Connect the projector to n electricl outlet with the power cord. Connect the projector to the computer with the computer cble. Turn on the projector. Open the A/V mute slide. If the imge is not projected, you cn chnge the projected imge using one of the following methods. The following screen is displyed while no imge signls re input. Exmple: EB-1776W/EB-1771W/EB-1761W Using the remote control Using the control pnel HDMI LAN USB USB Disply * LAN is only vilble for EB-1776W/EB-1771W/EB-1761W When two or more imge sources re connected, press the [Source Serch] button until the trget imge is projected. 31 Projecting Imges 31 Switching to the Trget Imge by Remote Control You cn chnge directly to the trget imge by pressing the following buttons on the remote control. Remote control Projecting with USB Disply You cn use the supplied USB cble to connect the projector to computer to project imges from the computer. 33 Projecting Imges 33 When disconnecting the USB cble, there is no need to use Sfely Remove Hrdwre. For Mc OS X b c d e If it is not instlled utomticlly, double-click My Computer - EPSON_PJ_UD - EMP_UDSE.EXE on your computer. If nothing is projected for some reson, click All Progrms - EPSON Projector - Epson USB Disply - Epson USB Disply Vx.xx on your computer. When using computer running Windows 2000 under user uthority, Windows error messge is displyed nd you my not be ble to use the softwre. In this cse, try updting Windows to the ltest version, restrt, nd then try to connect gin. For more detils, contct your locl deler or the nerest ddress provided in the following document. s Epson Projector Contct List Connect the computer's USB port to the projector's USB (TypeB) port using USB cble. The Setup folder of USB Disply is displyed in the Finder. Double-click the USB Disply Instller icon. Follow the on-screen instructions to instll. When the License Agreement screen is displyed, click Agree. Enter the dministrtor uthority pssword nd strt the instlltion. When the instlltion is complete, the USB Disply icon is displyed in the Dock nd menu br. Computer imges re projected. It my tke while before computer imges re projected. Until computer imges re projected, leve the equipment s it is nd do not disconnect the USB cble or turn off the power to the projector. f Uninstlling When you hve finished projecting, select Disconnect from the menu br or from the USB Disply icon on the Dock. You cn then disconnect the USB cble. For Windows 2000 b c d If the USB Disply setup folder is not displyed utomticlly in the Finder, double-click EPSON PJ_UD - USB Disply Instller on your computer. If nothing is projected for some reson, click the USB Disply icon in the Dock. If there is no USB Disply icon in the Dock, strt USB Disply from the Applictions folder. If you select Exit from the USB Disply icon menu on the Dock, USB Disply does not strt utomticlly when you connect the USB cble. Click Strt, select Settings, nd then click Control Pnel. Double-click Add/Remove Progrms. Click Chnge or Remove Progrms. Select Epson USB Disply nd click Chnge/Remove. For Windows XP b c Click Strt, nd then click Control Pnel. Double-click Add or Remove Progrms. Select Epson USB Disply nd click Remove.

34 Projecting Imges 34 For Windows Vist/Windows 7 b c Click Strt, nd then click Control Pnel. Click Uninstll progrm under Progrms. Select Epson USB Disply nd click Uninstll. For Mc OS X b Open the Applictions folder, double-click USB Disply, nd then double-click Tool. Run USB Disply UnInstller.

35 Adjusting Projected Imges 35 Automticlly Adjust to Fit into the Screen Frme - Screen Fit - (EB-1776W only) Screen Fit is function tht corrects the projected imge so tht it fits to the frme (border) of the screen, whitebord, nd so on. When you press the [Screen Fit] button on the remote control or control pnel, the projected imge is djusted to fit the frme of the screen while lso performing keystone correction nd focus djustments. The projected imge cnnot be djusted correctly if this rnge is exceeded. Correct the projected imge mnully. Screen Fit is unvilble when the projector is suspended from ceiling. Correct the projected imge mnully. Press the [Screen Fit] button on the remote control or the control pnel during projection. Using the remote control Using the control pnel You cn use Screen Fit to correct the projected imge under the following conditions. Screen size: less thn or equl to 100" Distnce between projector nd screen: pprox. 1.0 to 2.5 m Correction ngle: pprox. 20 right nd left/pprox. 30 up nd down

36 Adjusting Projected Imges 36 b Adjust the zoom ring so tht the yellow frme is bigger thn the screen frme s shown below. Position the blck messge box in the center of the screen. Once the djustment screen ppers, do not move the projector or block the imge. The projected imge will not be corrected properly. d After the correction is performed, the following messge ppers. To exit the correction menu, press the [Esc] button on the remote control or the control pnel to cler the messge. To mke fine djustments fter the initil djustment, press the [ ][ ][ ][ ] buttons on the control pnel. c If the yellow frme is still within the screen frme even fter djusting the zoom ring to its mximum size, try moving the projector further wy from the screen. Press the [Screen Fit] button or the [ ] button. After the djustment screen ppers, the projected imge is corrected ccording to the spect rtiog of the imge being input. If no opertion is performed, the messge closes fter bout seven seconds. After performing Screen Fit, Keystone on the Configurtion menu is set to Quick Corner. After this, ny correction of the projected imge using the [ ][ ][ ][ ] buttons on the control pnel is performed using the Quick Corner function. s "Correcting mnully - Quick Corner -" p.39

For exmple, when projecting onto wide screen in smll room, you cn mke corrections by fitting the top nd bottom sides of the screen into the projected re. Correcting mnully (mnul H/V-Keystone) Mnully correct distortion in the horizontl nd verticl directions independently. Screen Fit my not function correctly in drk rooms such s rooms with the lights turned off. In this sitution, try performing Screen Fit gin fter turning on the lights. Becuse Screen Fit relies on sensor, it my not function correctly depending on the sttus of the projection screen (if it is curved or ptterned nd so on) or if the room is open to dylight. In this cse, mke the djustments mnully. s "Correcting mnully - mnul H/V-Keystone -" p.38 Correcting mnully (Quick Corner) Mnully correct the four corners independently. Correcting Keystone Distortion You cn correct keystone distortion using one of the following methods. Correcting utomticlly -Auto H/V-Keystone (EB-1776W only) -Auto V-Keystone (EB-1771W/EB-1761W/EB-1751 only) When you correct keystone distortion, the projected imge my be reduced. Correcting utomticlly - Auto H/V-Keystone - (EB-1776W only) When the projector detects ny movement, for exmple when it is moved or tilted, it utomticlly corrects verticl nd horizontl keystone distortion s well s the focus. This function is clled Auto H/V-Keystone.

38 Adjusting Projected Imges 38 When the projector is moved, it displys screen for djustment nd then utomticlly corrects the projected imge. You cn use Auto H/V-Keystone to correct the projected imge under the following conditions. Correction ngle: pprox. 20 right nd left/pprox. 30 up nd down Correction ngle: pprox 30 right nd left/pprox. 45 up nd down Correcting keystone distortion in verticl directions Press the [ ][ ] buttons on the control pnel. Auto H/V-Keystone only works when Projection is set to Front from the Configurtion menu. s Extended - Projection p.84 If you do not wnt to use the Auto H/V-Keystone function, set Auto H/V-Keystone to Off. s Settings - Keystone - H/V-Keystone - Auto H/V-Keystone p.82 Correcting utomticlly - Auto V-Keystone - (EB-1771W/ EB-1761W/EB-1751 only) When using EB-1771W/EB-1761W/EB-1751, only the verticl direction is corrected utomticlly. If you need to correct the horizontl direction, use mnul H/V-Keystone. You cn use Auto V-Keystone to correct the projected imge under the following conditions. Correction ngle: pprox. 30 up nd down Correcting keystone distortion in horizontl directions Press the [ ][ ] buttons on the control pnel. Correcting mnully - mnul H/V-Keystone - Mnully correct distortion in the horizontl nd verticl directions independently. H/V-Keystone correction is idel for fine-tuning keystone distortion. You cn use H/V-Keystone to correct the projected imge under the following conditions.

Press the [Menu] button while projecting. s "Using the Configurtion Menu" p.76 Using the remote control Using the control pnel c Select Quick Corner, nd then press the [ ] button. b Select Keystone from Settings. d Using the [ ], [ ], [ ], nd [ ] buttons on the remote control, or the [ ], [ ], [ ], nd [ ] buttons on the control pnel, select the corner to correct, nd then press the [ ] button.

If the messge "Cnnot djust ny further." is displyed while djusting, you cnnot djust the shpe ny further in the direction indicted by the gry tringle. f g Repet procedures 4 nd 5 s needed to djust ny remining corners. When you re done, press the [Esc] button to exit the correction menu. Becuse Keystone ws chnged to Quick Corner, the corner selection screen from step 4 is displyed when you press the [ ], [ ], [ ], or [ ] button on the control pnel next time. Chnge Keystone to H/V-Keystone if you wnt to perform horizontl nd verticl correction using the [ ], [ ], [ ], nd [ ] buttons on the control pnel. s Settings - Keystone - H/V-Keystone p.82

41 Adjusting Projected Imges 41 When Auto H/V-Keystone is set to On, the messge "Do you wnt to perform Auto H/V-Keystone correction?" is displyed when the projector is moved. (EB-1776W only) After you perform this function, the Keystone setting chnges from Quick Corner to H/V-Keystone, fter which pressing the [ ], [ ], [ ], or [ ] button on the control pnel performs H/V-Keystone. s Settings - Keystone - H/V-Keystone p.82 If the [Esc] button is held down for bout two seconds while the corner selection screen from step 4 is displyed, the following screen is displyed. T W Adjusting the Imge Position Reset Quick Corner: Resets the result of Quick Corner corrections. Switch to H/V-Keystone: Switches the correction method to H/V-Keystone. s "Settings Menu" p.82 Press the foot djust lever to extend nd retrct the front djustble foot. You cn djust the position of the imge by tilting the projector up to 14 degrees. Adjusting the Imge Size Turn the zoom ring to djust the size of the projected imge. The lrger the ngle of tilt, the hrder it becomes to focus. Instll the projector so tht it only needs to be tilted t smll ngle.

Adjusting the Volume You cn djust the volume using one of the following methods. Correcting the Focus You cn correct the focus using one of the following methods. Press the [Focus] button on the control pnel or the remote control to djust the focus. (EB-1776W only) Turn the focus ring to djust the focus. (EB-1771W/EB-1761W/EB-1751 only) Press the [Volume] buttons on the remote control to djust the volume. Remote control [] Decreses the volume. [b] Increses the volume.

43 Adjusting Projected Imges 43 Adjust the volume from the Configurtion menu. s Settings - Volume p.82 Cution Do not strt t high volume. A sudden excessive volume my cuse loss of hering. Alwys lower the volume before powering off, so tht you cn power on nd then grdully increse the volume. Selecting the Projection Qulity (Selecting Color Mode) You cn esily obtin the optimum imge qulity simply by selecting the setting tht best corresponds to your surroundings when projecting. The brightness of the imge vries depending on the mode selected. Mode Dynmic Presenttion Thetre Photo*1 Sports*2 srgb Appliction Idel for use in bright room. This is the brightest mode, nd reproduces shdow tones well. Idel for mking presenttions using color mterils in bright room. Idel for wtching films in drk room. Gives imges nturl tone. Idel for projecting still pictures, such s photos, in bright room. The imges re vivid nd brought into contrst. Idel for wtching TV progrmmes in bright room. The imges re vivid nd brought to life. Idel for imges tht conform to the srgbg color stndrd. Mode Blckbord Appliction Even if you re projecting onto blckbord (greenbord), this setting gives your imges nturl tint, just like when projecting onto screen. Whitebord Idel for mking presenttions using whitebord. Customized Select Customized if you wnt to djust the R, G, B, C, M, nd Y settings in the Color Adjustment submenu of the Configurtion menu. DICOM SIM*1*3 Idel for projecting X-ry photogrphs nd other medicl imges. This produces imges with cler shdows. The projector is not medicl device nd cnnot be used for medicl dignosis. *1 This selection is only vilble when the input signl is RGB or when the source is USB Disply, USB, or LAN. (Depending on the model used, some sources re not supported.) *2 This selection is only vilble when the input signl is component video, or when the source is Video. *3 The effects my not be reproduced correctly ccording to your settings nd screen specifictions.
