National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, an Institute of National Importance declared by the Act of Parliament, offers several undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Technology, Science, Architecture, Management, Humanities and allied areas. NIT Tiruchirappalli is looking for excellent Visiting Faculty / Adjunct Faculty / Professor Emeritus with higher problem solving skills, project mode teaching, active teaching in which design is an integral part and collaborative/co-operative learning pedagogies. The Institute also focus towards adopting the ICT enabled high quality teaching/learning process with an objective of way forward to achieve quality higher Technical Education. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE The person should have Ph.D. with first class at the preceding degree or equivalent with very good academic record throughout and with minimum 10 years teaching / research / industrial experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IISERs and NITs or at an equivalent level in any such other Indian or foreign institution / institutions of comparable standards. OR A person with minimum 15 years industrial experience with minimum Bachelor s degree in appropriate discipline and with proven track record of being a researcher with commendable experience in research and development aspects in relevant areas. 10 INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES 1) Self-attested copies of all certificates, semester wise mark sheets, testimonials etc. should be attached with the application and the originals must be produced at the time of interview and at the time of joining, if selected. The selected candidates shall produce, in original, the Matriculation or equivalent certificate as proof of the date of birth. No other evidence will be accepted. 2) Documents enclosed with the application form may securely be tagged to avoid loss in handling and photographs may be properly affixed. 3) The candidates have to be academically strong in their respective areas and communicate effectively to the students. Academically strong and brilliant communicators from leading institutions in the country/abroad will stand good chance. 4) Persons working in Govt. / University / Public Sector undertaking must send their applications complete in all respects through proper channel by registered post / courier so as to reach in time, otherwise such applications are liable to be rejected. 11 14) Emoluments and service conditions Visiting Faculty a) Academic personnel from universities, institutes, R&D labs, industry or Government in India or abroad, including those on sabbatical leave from other institutions or retired, may be inducted into the institutions for Maximum 2 years with suitable remuneration. b) They are expected to work full time tasking academic responsibilities at par with regular faculty members. c) They may be provided with mutually agreed honorarium and facilities (e.g. residential accommodation) on discretion of Director. Professor Emeritus a) Faculty superannuating from services in NITs and comparable institutions may be inducted by the Board as Professor Emeritus for a maximum period of 3 years. b) This provision is limited to faculty with suitable externally sponsored projects or comparable activities, in addition to shouldering normal teaching responsibilities. c) They may be provided with mutually agreed honorarium and facilities (e.g. residential accommodation) on discretion of Director. Adjunct Faculty Reputed scientists, engineers, physicians, advocates, artists, civil servants, bankers and other professionals, both serving and retired (from active service), can be inducted as Adjunct faculty. They will bring reputation to the institute, add valuable expertise and practical knowledge and complement the knowledge pool of existing faculty. The following will be some broad guide lines for selection of adjunct faculty. a) They must be persons of repute, comparable to at least the top one third of the regular faculty in professional expertise and reputation in their own fields and organizations. b) Adjunct faculty will supervise student projects at all levels UG to Ph.D., carry out sponsored research and consultancy, and teach courses, all these activities either independently or in collaboration with a regular faculty. c) Adjunct faculty will be provided with office room, secretarial services and other facilities depending on their involvement in academic activities. d) They shall receive no salary, fee nor any other compensation for their services. All direct expenses such as travel, accommodation, preparation of lecture material etc. shall be reimbursed at actual. e) Adjunct faculty may receive financial support at the discretion of the director to attend conferences in India or abroad for presenting their work done in the institute, if in the opinion of the director, he has contributed significantly to the institute academic program.
