January 2016 The A330 Family Reliable - Versatile - Profitable - Comfortable - Modern Benefiting from over 20 years of continuous incremental innovation, the A330 is the most modern, profitable and reliable family aircraft in the market, providing a tailored solution for every market today and for the future The A330 Family, part of Airbus widebody family, has five in-service members the A , A , A F, ACJ330 and A330 MRTT along with two A330neo (New Engine Option) versions the A and the A , which were launched in Together this versatile widebody product line covers all market segments with one twin-engine aircraft Family. Low operating costs, high efficiency, flexibility and optimised performance make the A330 Family popular with an ever-increasing operator base, as well as passengers who enjoy more personal space with Airbus modern long-haul comfort standard of 18-inch wide seats for economy class. The A330 remains the preferred choice for over 100 airlines worldwide who continue to benefit from its proven and unrivalled low operating costs. From 30 minutes short routes up to 15 hours long haul, the A330 offers the most efficient option spanning seats without compromising on comfort, while being one of the most reliable aircraft ever with average operational reliability of 99.4 per cent. Every 20 seconds, an A330 aircraft takes-off or lands somewhere in the world. A330neo - The newest evolution of Airbus widebody family, the A330neo (New Engine Option) builds on the A330 s proven economics, versatility and reliability while reducing fuel consumption by a further 14 per cent per seat. The NEO s two versions the A neo and A neo share the same fuselage lengths of today s A and A current engine option jetliners, respectively. These aircraft incorporate latest-generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, up to 10 more seats and new cabin features, along with new Sharklet wingtip devices. The A330neo will expand operators market opportunities with a range capability increase of up to 400 nautical miles, and offer better economics than its competitors while offering one inch greater seat-width comfort in economy class. Based on the proven reliability of the A330 Family, the A330neo shares many commonalities with the A350 XWB.With the common type rating an A330 pilot can qualify on the A350 XWB in eight working days without full flight simulator time and then be able to fly both aircraft under a single license endorsement maximizing the pilot s productivity and minimizing training cost for the airline. The two latest members of Airbus widebody family also share similar technologies including composite Sharklets, new generation engine, systems and offer an equal level of comfort to passengers (incl. 18inch seats, 4 th generation IFE, full connectivity), with unbeatable cost efficiency for airlines. 2 To reflect the many commonalities with the A350 XWB, the A330neo has recently adopted a similarly distinctive and striking wrap around shades look. As well as operational commonality with other members of the Airbus Family the NEO will also retain 95% airframe spares commonality with A330 and inherit its marketing-leading reliability, offering five percent reduced airframe maintenance costs, thanks to further evolution in the already efficient A330 scheduled maintenance programme. Also helping to achieve the five percent reduction in maintenance costs is the new Engine bleed air system (EBAS) which replaces pneumatic controls with full electrical regulation a technology which is already proven on the A380 and also features on the A350 XWB and A320neo. Overall the new A330neo, builds on the A330 market leadership, in comfort, versatility, reliability and profitability as well as on the latest innovations in service today on the A350 XWB, is the perfect choice for airlines. The A variant, seating 247 passengers in three classes, has the versatility to cover all ranges from short-haul to true long haul ideal for point to point operations. Meanwhile, the A , with 277 passengers in three classes has unmatched per-seat costs in its category, maintaining its position as the most economical twin-aisle regional airliner. Airbus has recently further enhanced performance for this popular airliner family by increasing the maximum take-off weight capability up to 242 tonnes both available on the A model and the A The new take-off weight capability combined with the fuel capacity increase enables operators of these new A s to carry additional payload on longer missions up to 7,250 nautical miles for the -200 and to 6,350 nm for the Overall, the full payload range now increases by around 500nm over the previous 235 tonne A , and by around 400nm over the previous 238 tonne A The additional fuel capacity for the A allows operators to fly new longer distance routes, such as direct flights between South-East Asia and Europe. For example, it permits westbound direct flights such as Kuala Lumpur to Frankfurt or Paris, with the ability to carry additional cargo on the eastbound return flight. The two models also bring increased fuel efficiency thanks to aerodynamic refinements and engine enhancements. The A330 Regional Airbus is also adapting the A to rapidly-growing markets, where the aviation infrastructure is struggling to keep up with surging demand. The A330 Regional, the lowerweight variant (with a MTOW of around 200 tonnes) will carry up to 400 passengers on shorter haul missions (up to 2,700 nautical miles) resulting in significant unit costs savings. The reduction in fuel burn per seat, landing and navigation charges and maintenance costs thanks to these innovations will result in an overall cost per seat reduction by up to 26% compared with the today s long-range A variants, 20% lower total cost per seat than the 787. Page 2 of 6
The A Freighter (A F) The development of the A F represents a significant step in building the A330 Family. Based on the proven A330 passenger platform, the cargo version of the A330 has an optimized design to match the needs of cargo operations. The A F is tailored for long-haul routes and regional operations to feed cargo into hub airports. The A F can carry up to 70 tonnes of payload over 3,200nm. The aircraft has flown to all continents with a high reliability rate since its 2010 service entry, with some operators using the freighter up to 400 hours per month. For the highly-demanding VIP and private markets, the ACJ330 offers top-end luxury, comfort and range, while the A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) variant is the most modern aircraft for military services in-flight refuelling and airlift requirements. In focus: the A330 family cabin With the passenger at heart and the airline in mind, Airbus continuously develops the A330 cabin to be modern, proven and comfortable while offering the highest possible cost-efficiency. Airbus cabin design office also delivers safety enhancements, reliability improvements and new design standards, that contribute to airline cost saving. Through innovative uses of cabin space, the A330 allow a wide variety of seating configurations from high comfort 4-abreast premium classes to more efficient high-density configuration. with no compromise on Airbus comfort standard of 18-inch wide seats in economy class. The spacious and comfortable cabin is optimised with the latest generation of sidewall panels which increase passenger space and thermal comfort for while allowing a smoother installation and reduced maintenance costs. Cabin enablers like Spaceflex and Smart-Lav available on the A330neo will allow even more efficient use of the aircraft s volume and length s thus allowing airlines the flexibility to add seat pitch, more recline space for passengers, additional stowage capacity without compromising on passenger s comfort. Passengers of the latest A330 generation enjoy a 21st century on-board experience, including line-fit full connectivity, the new full LED mood lighting inspired from the A350 XWB allowing unlimited customization of colour and intensity, plus 4 th -generation high-definition in-flight entertainment (IFE). Innovations in this latest generation include larger screens with full-hd capability, high bandwidth fibre optics, simplified installation, as well as weight and space saving. This last item means increased legroom, thanks to the reduced size and number of Seat Electronic Boxes (SEB). The latest A330 cabin upgrade will also be prepared to accommodate the latest developments of connectivity system. The connectivity platform will be ready to support wireless content streaming to passenger owned devices and future broadband satellite communication technologies Cabin crew in the A330neo will benefit too with a cabin intercommunication data system (CIDS) upgrade, featuring the same flight attendant panel as A350 XWB, to control the mood lighting, water levels, temperatures and voice announcements. Page 3 of 6
The development of easy handling galleys, has allowed the A330 to continue to offer a cabin crew friendly environment. For example, the new galley inserts developed for the A350 XWB is now available for A330 operators improving meal preparation service, especially for the increasing expectations of Business and First Class passengers without impact on space or weight compared to traditional catering equipment. A330 pilots and cabin crew alike appreciate the new segregated lower-deck mobile crew-rest. This also frees-up more space on the main deck for extra passenger capacity. The cabin and the cabin crew facilities are areas which have an immediate impact and are easily appreciable by customers. With the new and highly efficient A330neo the cabin will greatly contribute to reducing an airlines overall costs while providing up to 10 more seats with the same level of comfort. In focus: incremental development of the A330 Family design and systems The A330 is a technological pioneer that also benefits from proven successes on our other established Airbus families: A320 Family, A340, A380 and from innovations designed on the new A350 XWB and A320neo (new engine option). Airbus spends some 150 million euros each year on enhancements and incremental improvements for the A330 jetliner family. As technology improves, so does the A330 Family. Regular introduction of airframe upgrades, technological fertilization from other Airbus products developments, as well as the use of more recent methods and tools have continuously improved the A330 operational characteristics, maturing this aircraft to operate efficiently on all kinds of routes from short to long haul, from 30 minutes up to 15 hour flights, whilst improving the flexibility and the versatility. Incremental development in the A330 design has allowed flexibility through payload/range variants. The payload and range capability improvement is primarily achieved through design weights variants: maximum take-off weight (MTOW) increase (more range at a given payload / more payload at a given rang), MTOW reduction (optimisation for high traffic regional routes), Maximum Zero Fuel Weight (MZFW) increase (more maximum payload) and Maximum Landing Weight. Page 4 of 6
The engine thrust has been increased in conjunction to the MTOW increases, ranging from 64,000 lbs up to 72,000 lbs take-off thrust, thus preserving the airfield capability of the A330. Upgrades introduced to the A330 airframe have also further improved the flexibility and efficiency of the A330. Beyond current definition, new features will be developed to further improve the performance such as weight reduction solutions or introduction of new aerodynamic technologies (riblets and hybrid laminar flow). Incremental development in the A330 systems During the last ten years, the A330 Family programme has continuously and increasingly invested in development, improving A330 systems offer. Using the latest techniques, the design office has delivered safety enhancements, fuel and cost savings, reliability improvements, or new capabilities to improve aircraft and cockpit operations and passengers travel experience. Amongst many other examples of systems: The A330 was the first widebody to be equipped with the Required Navigation Performance with Authorisation Required (RNP-AR). This system allows access to airports in mountainous areas with more flexible approaches and departures, thus enabling time and fuel savings. Runway Overrun Protection System (ROPS*) is an Airbus-developed response to the growing occurrence of runway overrun incidents, which remain the main cause of aircraft accidents. ROPS provides significant safety enhancement allowing the reduction of insurance fees. Traffic Collision Avoidance System Resolution Advisory (TCAS RA) Prevention (TCAP) aims to reduce the number of TCAS RA occurring during level-off manoeuvres in reduced separation airspaces. It reduces undesired RA by 95% and all RA by 50% and improves passenger comfort, with no fuel penalty for normal operation. ETOPS 240 (Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards) is an operational system providing key operational improvement. In 2009 EASA approved A330 aircraft for ETOPS beyond 180 minutes, allowing diversion distance up to a maximum of 1700 nm, i.e. the equivalent to an ETOPS diversion time slightly higher than 240 minutes. On some golden routes, this can mean reduced distances of up to 500 nm, which is the equivalent of 1 hour of flight, or 10 percent of fuel. Swift Broad Band (SBB) SATCOM is communication systems allowing full connectivity in the cabin application needs, such as live internet, mobile phone use and . Swift Broad Band SATCOM solutions by both Honeywell and Rockwell Collins were certified between 2009 and They can both be operated with former SATCOM antenna or with the more recently certified antenna which is 25 kg lighter, easy to retrofit, and delivers fuel savings of approximately 100 kg for a typical A330 mission. Head-Up Display (HUD) Dual HUD function already available on the A320 Family, A350 and A380 will soon be in service on the A330. This visual guidance system has been shown to significantly increase pilots situational awareness, facilitates instrument and visual Page 5 of 6
Meteorological Conditions transition, enhances stability of manual approaches and allows minima reductions during take-off and landing. The long range HUD standard will be based on the latest certified single-aisle standard and proposes the latest functionalities to keep the highest symbology and operations commonality throughout Airbus fleet. The A330 has evolved in such a way that it remains the right aircraft, right now and beyond. A330 systems definition remains flexible in order to incorporate valuable adaptations for customers. Operation safety enhancements are implemented across programme fleets when they are proven mature and add value to the aircraft and cockpit operations. *** Page 6 of 6
