Following the success of last year s European Family Offices summit, the upcoming Leonardo Ventures forum on "Trends in Investment Strategies of European Family Offices" will focus on alternative investment strategies of family offices, with a particular focus on recent trends in private equity investing, direct investments, co-investments and co-mingled investment programs. It will be the 5th forum organized by Leonardo Ventures on family offices since In the past decade, family offices have come on the forefront of the private equity stage, with a number of high profile families investing in very visible transactions or setting up private equity programs of their own. With the financial crisis of , family offices have become increasingly important as a source of funding for private equity funds. However, their expectations have changed and their investment strategies have greatly matured: A growing number of family offices are structuring their investment programs as multi-family offices (MFOs) to syndicate and mutualise costs and resources; Family offices are increasingly looking for direct investment opportunities, or co-investments alongside the funds in which they have invested this is not only in order to reduce the fee structure, but generally because they have a strong entrepreneurial culture and can add value to the deals; Family offices and MFOs are increasingly syndicating large transactions with a few large Leonardo Ventures / Family Offices Forum 23 May / 5

2 family investors who operate as a "club deal" and add value to the investee companies. This trend is particularly evident when large family offices are structuring deals in new markets and geographies. This Forum will enable a limited number of representatives from family offices to meet with other family offices and exchange views on their current strategies. In addition, they will be in a position to promote or present a selection of funds or companies that they are endorsing. The Audience - Who will attend? The audience will consist primarily of family offices and investment professionals from France and from Europe. During the 2011 edition, more than 25 family offices from Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and UK were present and could initiate contacts. We expect a top quality audience of 120 to 150 people (the venue is limited to 150 people). In addition 5,000 investment professionals and 2,200 family offices representatives globally will be contacted for this Forum, and will receive the program in electronic format. About Leonardo Ventures Leonardo Ventures is the financial services arm of the Association Leonardo, one of the oldest group of angel investors and investment professionals in France. Association Leonardo was created in 1989 by Yves Delacour and a group of friends who were alumni of the Stanford business school. Out of the Leonardo association, Leonardo Ventures was created in 1995 as a private company to help small and medium sized companies (including technology start-ups, but also unlisted traditional businesses) raise funding from sophisticated investors.
