1 PLACENTIA-YORBA LINDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Math Scope and Sequence Fourth Grade
2 Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Math Sequencing FOURTH GRADE This timeline provides a guide to assist you in your pacing of instruction, as well as the reordering of chapters to assure that certain concepts are taught prior to standardized testing. Based on teacher feedback, changes were made to last year s pacing chart, though much of the timeline remains the same. You will find that Chapter 10 (Geometry) now follows Chapter 8 (Decimals) in order to cover the material before standardized testing. It is possible that Chapter 6 (Measurement and Negative Numbers) and Chapter 11(Graphing and Algebra) will be taught after testing; however, the basic concepts should be introduced before testing. Chapter 9 (Statistics and Probability) and Chapter 12 (Division by Two-Digit Divisors) go beyond the fourth grade standards and, therefore, have been placed at the end of the year. Recommendations (use the following): Mad Minutes Bellwork Mountain Math Algebra Puzzles and Problems (Groundworks) (This is a worksheet and/or test generator independent of Houghton ) HM Mathematics California s-based Assessment at the beginning of the year, give the 3 rd grade End-of-Year test to evaluate students abilities. HM Mathematics California s-based Assessment give Trimester tests after Chapters 4, 8, and 12 to assess students progress. Math Steps see Teachers Manual for referenced pages. HM Mathematics Problem Solving for Advanced Learners (Enrichment Logical Reasoning) When you are using this timeline as a planning guide, please keep in mind that a range was given for instruction time. If more than the maximum time noted is spent on each chapter, you will not complete the necessary concepts prior to testing. Concept presentation needs to be adapted to the needs of your students, yet allotted time needs to be adjusted so all key concepts are taught prior to the testing in Spring.
