UOW AT A GLANCE UNDERGRADUATE COURSES
UOW s quality graduates UOW takes curious minds and develops qualities that will set them apart in the workplace, in further studies, and in life. UOW is strongly independent and self-reliant. After studying with us, you will be too. UOW Graduates are: Informed Independent learners Problem solvers Effective Communicators Responsible These qualities aren t an abstract mission statement they are integral to how we teach and develop courses, and are highly visible to employers. Career Success The University of Wollongong has held its position as one of the top two percent of universities in the world by its performance in three prestigious international rankings: QS World University Rankings 2010 Academic Ranking of World Universities 2010 Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2010 These rankings provide a comprehensive assessment of universities across a range of criteria, and this success mirrors the high demand for UOW graduates in the workplace marks the eleventh year in a row that UOW has scored five stars in the categories of Getting a Job and Positive Graduate Outcomes. This shows UOW is a where students not only get a five-star education, but a five-star chance of getting a job with a top salary at the end of their degree. HHHHH Getting a Job HHHHH Positive Graduate Outcomes HHHHH Staff Qualifications HHHHH Research Intensity HHHHH Graduate Satisfaction HHHHH Generic Skills HHHHH Staff to Student Ratio 2011 Good Universities Guide (Universities and Private Colleges) More Satisfied Students UOW was ranked number one in Australia for student satisfaction in the independent Sweeney Group s 2009 Uni Student Report. This study asked students about the opportunities for them to be involved in campus life, which we believe is an essential part of the uni experience. More to Do UOW boasts a modern, spacious campus built around landscaped gardens and water features. Campus life at UOW is never boring. You might spend time at the award-winning UniBar, watching international music acts with your friends, or wander through the beautiful Wollongong Botanic Gardens. You could browse the stalls of the regular markets, or unwind at any of UOW s sporting facilities, including: a fully equipped gymnasium; basketball, squash and tennis courts; sports fields; and a fifty-metre heated Olympic swimming pool. There s always something to do. The University runs campus tours Monday to Friday during NSW school holidays (excluding public holidays). Call or uniadvice@uow.edu.au to book. Wollongong s coastal location provides a unique environment in which to live and study. You ll have the opportunity to take advantage of the city s 17 patrolled beaches, its shops, hotels and clubs. With around 400,000 residents, the Wollongong region is large enough to offer the entertainment and conveniences of a city, yet small enough to retain the friendly, relaxed atmosphere of a coastal community. The UOW campus is less than five kilometres from the city centre and beaches and is situated at the base of Mt Keira. For students moving to Wollongong to study, UOW offers a range of student accommodation, located both on and off campus. For more information on accommodation options, please visit
Matthew Saliba Interactive Designer, Internetrix Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts and Graphic Design) Studying at UOW has helped me to achieve my goals by providing me with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully progress into the design industry with comfort, initiative and creative flair. Studying at UOW has taught me to strive only for the best. The methods taught at UOW are now a natural process in my everyday approach to finding the best possible design solution for a client.

a place for high-achievers A truly curious mind can turn a simple answer into a brilliant question. And all the best questions lead to more questions. There s always more to learn. If you can t get enough when it comes to learning, our advanced programs will fuel your curious mind and make you stand out in the job market and academic world. Advanced Degrees Advanced Degrees offer opportunities not normally available in undergraduate study. They include an integral Honours year and have a strong focus on research. They may offer the chance to undertake individual research projects, or work with teams undertaking high-level research or both. Students can enrol in more subjects than normal, effectively reducing the length of their degree, or giving them more time in later years to do their own research. Most Advanced degrees have an ATAR requirement of 93 (or equivalent), and students are required to maintain a certain level of performance throughout their studies. Those interested in an Advanced degree can UniAdvice to discuss the options available. uniadvice@uow.edu.au Engineering Scholar Program Similar to the Dean s Scholar program, the Bachelor of Engineering (Scholar) is for high-achieving students with good mathematics ability. It is available for all Bachelor of Engineering degrees offered by the Faculty of Engineering. Dean s Scholar Designed for high-achievers, Dean s Scholar programs are enhanced undergraduate degrees that offer students the chance to get more out of their studies. They offer a number of benefits including: Pairing with an academic mentor Special workshops and seminars Extended library privileges Designated study space Possibility of accelerating your degree $500 textbook allowance per year (pro rata for part-time) Academic mentors will be selected based on the student s interests and strengths. Discussing assessments, sharing ideas, investigating some exciting new development in research: Dean s Scholars find plenty to feed their curiosity. Students also attend special seminars and workshops, and hear from a variety of guest speakers. This exemplifies the intellectual atmosphere in a Dean s Scholar program. Every faculty at UOW has tailored their Dean s Scholar degrees for more information, follow the links at A Dean s Scholar degree is available with the same choice of major studies as the respective base program.

UOW double degrees are available in combinations as diverse as you are, giving you the opportunity to pursue all your interests at the same time, no matter how different they might seem. The scholarship program at UOW rewards students for academic achievement, determination and leadership qualities. As well as cash awards, there are scholarships that offer work and community placements. For details see Bonus Points Some students are eligible for both these programs, which could mean up to six bonus points when they apply.
