1 How To: Everio GZ MG630 Preparation/Orientation The camera runs on a rechargeable battery, which should be fully charged before you start. To charge the battery: 1. Look for the plastic cover 2. Make sure battery is in place 3. Plug the charger into the camera it only fits one way and plug the other end into any outlet. 4. Allow 2 hours for camera battery to charge. The red light will flash while battery is charging. It will go out when charging is complete. 1

2 Shooting Your Video To turn the camera on, flip open the LCD screen, which acts as your viewfinder. The screen will report key status indicators Set for Movie and Automatic. The easiest settings. Paused or Playing Battery charge level Automatic or Manual Button below icons changes the setting. REC appears on the screen when camera is ready to record. Button below icon starts and stops the recording. 2

3 When you are ready to shoot your video, simply press one of the two Start/Stop buttons, and focus on your subject using the view finder and the Zoom button. To pause or stop filming, press one of the Start/Stop buttons once more. The first is on the camera itself. 3 Touch on the PLAY/REC button to change camera mode. A DIGEST of all recorded videos appears, with the latest video highlighted. Use the touch display along the side of LCD to select the video you want to play.

4 To view on a TV or VCR attached to a TV, find the cable with a single connection on one and three color coded RCA connections on the other. Find the cover labeled AV on the camera, and connect the single end here. Connect the other three to the appropriately colored ports of your TV or VCR: yellow for video, red and white for stereo audio. Follow the same steps on page 3 for choosing and playing your video. If it does not appear on the TV, please check the video source menu on the TV and choose the correct device. Often the choice is between Video 1, 2. or 3 or TV, DVD, and AUX. Transfer Video for Editing To copy your video to a computer for editing, we recommend using the Mac operating system found on all of the imac s in the Computer Lab on the lower level of the Library and on Floor 1M. The application imovie is very adept at making home videos, either to burn to DVD or publish to the web. 4

5 Switch to Mac If your chosen computer is logged into Windows, click Start, Shutdown, and choose Restart. A choice of operating systems will be presented; choose Mac OS X. Choose Wheelock Users. Look for imovie and double click. 5

6 The imovie project window appears. Connect the camera and transfer the video by finding the USB cable included in the box or camera bag. Flip open the plastic cover marked with the USB icon, located in the front of the camera. Connect the small end of the cable to the camera where indicated. Connect the USB end of the cable to a port on the back of the imac. If the camera is on, it will automatically present the USB menu shown to the right. Use the touch bar to change selection to UPLOAD and press the OK button below. 6

7 These two screens will follow in quick succession, showing both the connection of the camera as a storage device on the imac desktop and the camera s detection by imovie and indexing of available video You will then need to choose between transferring all available video from the camera (the Automatic setting), or just a particular video or videos (the Manual setting). Toggle between the two by clicking on the button next to Automatic or Manual. If you choose Manual, select the videos you want to transfer by checking the box beneath the clips. Each clip will be imported to imovie as an Event, with the default name being the current date. Your Events, the repository of your raw video footage, are represented by thumbnails, time slices of video that can be manipulated into a project. These two screens will follow in quick succession, showing both the connection of the camera as a storage device on the imac desktop and the camera's detection by imovie and indexing of available video.
