16 Kongsberg Norcontrol IT History 1960s 1970s 1980s Formation and Development In 1965 Norcontrol AS was founded by Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk, a precursor of the Kongsberg Group. Pioneered successful development of marine radar collision avoidance systems, marine radar target data extraction and marine radar display technology. Study and Research Attention turned to harbour, coastal and offshore radar surveillance. Established dedicated VTS dept. in First two systems delivered in 1979 to Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority and British Petroleum for the Magnus oil field. Growth and Leadership Became market leader. Introduced the world to VTMIS by combining VTS hardware with IT software, such as relational database applications. / 16 / 12-May-11
