16 BUSINESS KITCHEN Business Kitchen Transforms Nordic Know-how into Growth and Business In a nutshell Business Kitchen is a co-operation project between OIA partners and other key organizations in Oulu It creates an entrepreneurial mindset among students and university staff It helps to create connections between universities and entrepreneurs It offers a joint working space It brings universities closer to businesses Results Seamless collaboration has been achieved in only 8 months Over 25 companies have been steered to a growth track 30 new companies have been created within one year, among them also student entrepreneurs Business Kitchen gets hundreds of visits every week

17 BUSINESS KITCHEN Midnight Pitch Fest BusinessKitchen was one of the lead organizers of the first pitch fest Midnight Pitch Fest brings start-ups, start-uppers and audiences together. The entrepreneurs that are welcomed to pitch may represent any business sector and can be either in pre-seed, seed, startup or growth stage. 19 3D Internet Is the Future A CIE Project

20 A CIE Project Virtual Worlds and 3D + Augmented Reality In a nutshell 3D internet will bring new content online in the form of three-dimensional spaces and items The Oulu team received 3,4 million euro of funding to develop webinterfaces supporting 3D and augmented reality The Centre for Internet Excellence (CIE) and four Oulu based 3D Internet companies will be amongst companies to build a new European wide internet technology platform as part of an EU wide project FI-WARE

21 A CIE Project Employment and Competitiveness for EU Based ICT Companies Results In Oulu, the project will create tens of new jobs for 3D developers and new international business opportunities for other companies as well The Oulu team will create a set of tools that make it easy to incorporate 3D and augmented reality capabilities in web-based user interfaces According to the CIE, the project aims to introduce an innovative infrastructure for the cost-effective creation and delivery of versatile digital services FI-WARE aims to introduce a whole new internet technology platform that will increase the global competitiveness of the European ICT companies and improve the European economy

24 Oulu University of Applied Sciences // CHP project Pilot Environment for Electricity and Heat Production In a nutshell It works as a training environment for energy technology students, and as a development platform for companies The modular and movable environment collects data on how different materials, such as wood, gas, biogas, bioethanol and solid fuels should be burnt for best results The testing environment can be used all around the Oulu region to test, for instance, a biogas unit s production levels on a farm Solar panels, wind mills and fuel cells will be connected to the environment Results Best practises for producing heat and electricity by distributed renewable energy The electricity produced by the platform can be directed to own use or to a national distribution network Improved R&D possibilities for companies Better co-operation possibilities for energy technology students and companies In the long run, the project will aid the production of distributed renewable energy in Northern Finland
