3 Computer Courses MS Excel 2010 Basic (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers workshop or basic computer knowledge. This course covers the basic functions and features of Excel 2010 Students will learn how: to increase efficiency and add value in the workplace by creating and using data spreadsheets for MS Excel 2010 Intermediate (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: MS Excel Basic workshop or equivalent experience. This course builds on the skills and concepts taught in MS Excel 2010 Basic. Students will learn how to: use multiple worksheets and workbooks efficiently start working with more advanced formatting options including styles, themes and backgrounds create outlines and subtotals MS Excel 2010 Advance (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: MS Excel Intermediate workshop or equivalent experience. This course builds on the skills and concepts taught in MS Excel 2010 Intermediate. Students will learn: advanced formulas, as well as lookup functions such as VLOOKUP, MATCH, and INDEX. about data validation and database functions such as DSUM how to work with PivotTables and PivotCharts to import and export data how to query external databases MS PowerPoint 2010 Basic (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers workshop or basic computer knowledge. MS Project 2007 Basic will simplify, consolidate and streamline your work of planning projects, managing resources and budgets, and tracking progress of a project. Students will learn: Project s basic features to create project task lists how to use Project to manage resources how to track, analyze, and filter projects how to communicate the status of multi-projects, share data, and link tasks MS Word 2010 Basic (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers workshop or basic computer knowledge. This course covers the basic functions and features of MS Word Students will learn how to: enter, edit text, save, and browse documents enhance the appearance of a document by using various formatting options create tables, insert headers and footers, proof and print documents and insert graphics MS Word 2010 Intermediate (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: MS Word Basic workshop or equivalent experience. This course is designed for individuals who wish to learn more of MS Word It builds on the skills and concepts taught in Word 2010 Basic. Students will learn how to: create and modify styles, create and format sections, work with columns, format tables, print labels and envelopes MS Word 2010 Advanced (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: MS Word Intermediate workshop or equivalent experience. Take your document word processing to the next level! Students will learn how to: create mail merges, mailing labels and envelopes work with objects and document backgrounds, forms, & macros customize the quick access toolbar and keyboard shortcuts work with long document features such as table of contents, indexes and bibliographies 4

Google Docs (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisite: None Google Docs is a free Web-based application in which documents and spreadsheets can be created, edited and stored online. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection and a fullfeatured Web browser. Users of Google Docs can import, create, edit and update documents and spreadsheets in various fonts and file formats, combining text with formulas, lists, tables and images. Google Docs is compatible with most presentation software and word processors. Students will learn: all about Google Drive getting started with Google Drive creating Google documents uploading files to Google Drive managing files how to share and collaborate how to convert and print documents Introduction to Computing (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisite: None Jobs today require you to know how to use a computer. This training introduces basic keyboarding techniques to create professional looking documents. Students will learn: how to create, develop, enhance and save Word documents to create easy to use spreadsheets in Excel how to create dynamic presentation in PowerPoint including inserting text, ClipArt, sounds, and animation effects what the different icons mean in Outlook how to efficiently use your inbox to get organized how to create your resume; get your own e mail address, and how to do online Job Searches. Introduction to Computing - South Bay (9 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisite: None Jobs today require you to know how to use a computer. QuickBooks 2013 Basic (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers or basic computer knowledge QuickBooks is a small business accounting package that organizes and tracks finances in one place. Quick- Books displays a snapshot of business information, prints checks, issues purchase orders, tracks inventory, pays employees and bills customers. Students will learn how to : generate and interpret business reports to gain business insight on financial, customer, vendor, product, and employee information bank with QuickBooks 5

6 Job Readiness Courses Interviewing Skills (3 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: None. Preparing for your job interview could very well be one of the most important moments of your career. Landing the perfect job can be a challenge but just a little preparation and thought ahead of time can have wondrous effects on your interviewing skills. Students will learn the issues of the interviewing process, such as: common interview questions what employers want body language mock interviews phone interviews/ behavioral interviews closing the interview thank you notes 6

7 Job Readiness Courses (cont d) Job Search Emergency Kit (16 hour course) SEPTEMBER This is an intensive two day job readiness package. You must sign up for both days. Prerequisites: None. Part I. Resume Development In this workshop you will learn the basics of resume development including the purpose of a resume; how to organize your expertise; components of effective resumes and techniques to stand above the competition. Students will receive answers to specific questions from an experienced career consultant. Part II. Networking While social networking may be all the rage, it doesn t beat the power of a face-to-face conversation. So you need to walk away from the computer and get out of the house! Networking allows you to advertise your enthusiasm, curiosity, and ability to listen. Doing so with a positive can do attitude projects a powerful image of you as someone who can easily communicate one-on-one and work side-by-side in a team environment. In this lively workshop you will learn skills and tools that improve the effectiveness of your networking and job related conversations. Develop a conversation opener, transitional statement and a success story. Topics include the 60 second elevator pitch, targeting employers, informational Part III. Interview Skills In this workshop participants gain an understanding of the hiring agenda and how to make the right first impression with a potential new employer. The basic components of what to do before, during and after the interview are covered in detail. Participants learn how to research in advance, prepare mentally and emotionally, communicate with confidence, handle tough questions and conduct appropriate follow up. Other interview formats such telephone and Skype are also addressed. 7

Networking is not optional anymore; it is a crucial skill to master and a vital part of planning for your future. The relationships you make now can last for years to come and help you in your career. Whether you re trying to land the perfect job or you are in need of professional referrals you ll want a strong network. Networking is not a mere exchange of business cards at a cocktail party nor is it bragging about yourself or begging for help from people you barely know. Networking is building relationships on the basis of trust that involves a give and take. Students will learn how: to develop lasting relationships formulate the perfect elevator speech target professionals networks take advantage of social media as a tool to market yourself Resume Development/Lab (6 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge as well as successful completion of MS Word Basic workshop or equivalent experience. You must also bring a PRINTED HARD COPY of your resume and have an ELECTRONIC SOFT COPY readily available either on a FLASH DRIVE or your OWN address, otherwise you may be asked to leave. One of the most important and intimidating steps in the job search process is writing a solid resume that gets the attention you want and need. Unfortunately, many job seekers get overwhelmed before they even get started. Today, resumes must appeal to potential employers while also being optimized for the electronic age. Whether you are handing a resume over in person or are ing an electronic copy to be added to an online database, the words you use and the formatting you choose will make a big difference in whether or not you get that interview. Students will learn: what a resume should look like and say depending on the target employer to master the dos and don ts of resume creation the most common sections found on resumes in today's job market to make edits in class as you go 8

9 Industry Specific Courses New! Academic Competencies for Hospitality, Tourism and Events (40 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisite: None. This course will address academic competencies in the Hospitality, Tourism, & Events industry. This course is contextualized to provide students with industry specific information. Students will learn how to: integrate what is learned from written materials with prior knowledge use appropriate mathematical formulas and techniques to solve problems notice nonverbal cues and respond appropriately New! Academic Competencies for ICT (40 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisite: None. This course will address academic competencies in the ICT industry. This course is contextualized to provide students with industry specific information. Students will learn how to: locate, understand, and interpret written information in prose and in documents such as manuals, reports, memos, letters, forms, graphs, charts, tables, calendars, schedules, signs, notices, applications, and directions perform basic math computations accurately apply basic scientific principles to work-related problems Bookkeeping and Accounting Basic (20 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and MS Excel experience required. In this workshop you will be introduced to concepts, terminology and practices of basic bookkeeping. You will learn how documents such as invoices, purchase orders, receipts, bank deposit slips and pay checks represent transactions that help companies maintain control and improve performance. Students will learn: the accounting equation: Assets = Liabilities + Equity cash basis accounting versus accrual accounting basic accounting terminology and concepts elements of the balance sheet and profit and loss statement the difference between customers, vendors, and employees purchase orders, invoices, receipts, and checks computerized accounting 9

In this class, students will learn applied math and statistics concepts including: arithmetic, concepts of number, word problems and algebra. fundamentals of descriptive statistics including measures of central tendency (average, median, and mode), measures of dispersion (range, variance, and standard deviation), and the shape of data distributions visualizing data and analyzing trends variances, ranking and correlating. This course will introduce you to the Advanced Manufacturing industry, with specific emphasis on Certified Production Technician, ComputerControlled Machine Tool Operator, and Project Management job titles. Students will learn: about working conditions in the Advanced Manufacturing field what wages & benefits they can expect how many jobs are actually available what advancement is available in this industry New! Introduction to Hospitality, Tourism and Events (4 hour course) SEPTEMBER Prerequisite: None.
