2 We are delighted to invite you to join the 61 st International SPAR Congress which will take place in the Radisson Blu Bryggen Hotel in Bergen. The hotel is perfectly situated to enjoy the World Heritage Bryggen site, part of the historical centre of this Hanseatic trading town. This compact hotel provides high quality rooms of 23m 2 in size. The postcongress tour will see delegates moving to the Hotel Ullensvang on Hardangerfjord. The 61 st International SPAR Congress will be hosted by SPAR Norway from 22 nd to 28 th May The SPAR licence for Norway was granted by SPAR International to NorgesGruppen ASA in NorgesGruppen ASA is the parent company of SPAR Norway and is the market leader in the highly concentrated Norwegian grocery market. SPAR Norway operates two retail formats: EUROSPAR, which continues to see expansion and growth following very positive consumer response, and SPAR, the neighbourhood supermarket format, which was the first format to be established. Sunday 22 nd May 2016 Arrival at Bergen (Flesland) International Airport. You will be welcomed by the hospitality team at the airport who will assist with a smooth transfer to the bus bringing you to the event hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel, assistance will be provided with the luggage. The Congress hospitality desk is also located in the hotel. Evening The Welcome evening will be held on the beautiful Norwegian barque, Statsraad Lehmkuhl, one of the world s largest and oldest rigged sailing ships. 3 Monday 23 rd May 2016 In the morning, delegates will depart from the hotel to visit SPAR & EUROSPAR retailers in and around Bergen. Lunch will be enjoyed during this part of our day, showcasing the type of cuisine available within the stores. In the afternoon, there will be a guided tour of Bryggen, a historic part of Bergen and very enjoyable. There will be some time to explore the rich shopping area of Bergen after the tour or indulge in the hotel s facilities. Evening This evening will be one to remember. We will take the funicular up the Mount Fløyen and have dinner at the Fløien Folkesrestaurant. The view from the top of Fløyen is a unique experience, giving visibility to everything from the Fish Market and Bryggen to Askøy Island out in the open sea. Tuesday 24 th May 2016 Day 1 of the Conference will take place in the meeting room area of the Radisson Blu Bryggen Hotel. A variety of presentations will be given throughout the day, covering a range of common business areas. There will also be an exhibition which will be open all day, showcasing best Private Label, retail developments and initiatives undertaken jointly with suppliers. Partner Programme This day will be dedicated to a sightseeing tour including a bus drive through the beautiful countryside, lunch in a unique venue reached by a short ferry boat ride. The Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri, on a small island just outside Bergen, is a well-known location where chef Ørjan Johannessen (winner of Bocuse d Or 2015) ensures a high standard of cuisine is enjoyed. There will be some time upon returning to the hotel to either enjoy the hotel s facilities or shop in the area around the hotel. Evening The evening has been left free to enable delegates to explore areas of the city and cuisines which they saw on Monday. 4 Wednesday 25 th May 2016 Day 2 of the Conference will provide an additional opportunity to network and share ideas. An agenda will be circulated prior to the Congress with more details regarding presentations from guest speakers, SPAR International and SPAR Partners, reflecting the sharing of ideas and best practice which makes the Conference such a valuable experience. Once again, there will be the possibility to visit the exhibition area, showcasing some of the best ideas within SPAR and our industry. Partner Programme An entertaining programme will be available for the partners, starting with a short bus ride to Troldhaugen, the home of Nina and Edvard Grieg. Troldhaugen is a beautiful Villa built in We invite you to a lunch concert in Troldsalen, where you will hear the most well-known and prized piano pieces by Edvard Grieg, presented by a top professional pianist. After the concert you will head back to Bryggen, and have lunch at the beautiful Scandic Ørnen, with a view over Bergen. Thursday 26 th May 2016 Those delegates not staying for the Post Congress will be able to take organised transfers to Bergen (Flesland) International Airport for their return journey. Information about the transfers can be located at the SPAR hospitality desk in the hotel. Post Congress Tour Hotel Ullensvang After an enjoyable breakfast, delegates will depart for the Hardangerfjord, traveling by boat. Lunch will be enjoyed at Baroniet Rosendal. Delegates will arrive at Hotel Ullensvang in the early afternoon; this hotel has been in the family since being built in Activities will be held in the afternoon in the surrounding area of the hotel, giving delegates an opportunity to indulge in friendly competition. The Hotel Ullensvang is idyllically situated on the sunny side of Sørfjorden, which is an arm of Hardangerfjord. The hotel is not only renowned for its great location but also for their excellent cuisine. Behind the hotel, the majestic Hardanger mountain plateau is a feast for the eyes and includes hiking possibilities. Dinner will be enjoyed in the hotel after a welcome cocktail. Evening: Gala Dinner SPAR Norway will host you to a Gala Dinner, celebrating the 61 st International SPAR Congress, held at the Radisson Blu Bryggen Hotel. 5 Friday 27 th May 2016 Saturday 28 th May 2016 A variety of activities will be planned which will enable delegates to enjoy all there is to experience in this beautiful part of Norway. The sensational scenery will feed the soul and senses during the day s programme. In addition to the natural scenery, Ullensvang is also renowned for its fruit orchards and the breath-taking sight of the trees in bloom. Dinner will be a real experience with the hotel working with SPAR Norway to provide a memorable evening for all. Transfers will be organised to Bergen (Flesland) International airport by bus. The journey is approximately three hours by bus from the hotel so please bear in mind when booking your return flights. The hospitality desk at the hotel will show departure times of the coaches and the staff will be on hand to assist you, making sure that you leave Norway with a happy smile!
