3 Training Specifications UKCP overarching Standards of Education and Training for Supervision Qualifications All training courses must: a) Where the course is intended to train appropriately qualified practitioners to supervise work with children as well as adults the training programme must include all those additional elements as specified in the current Guidelines for Supervisors published by the UKCP Psychotherapy with Children Committee (PwCC); b) Contain both theoretical teaching and supervised supervision as components required to achieve the competences of a supervisor; c) Reflect responsibility for transparency and accountability as relevant and important in the training and in the practice of supervision; d) Cover more than one theoretical model of supervision e) Include at least one form of assessment of work with a supervisee and one piece of written work exploring the theory and practice of supervision; f) Include production / presentation of a short written model of their Supervision Framework including style, approach and understanding of supervision and reflection on practice Additional requirements for colleges: HIPC For a supervision training to be deemed suitable for RS or RTS purposes, it should satisfy the following minimum criteria: o offer a substantial programme of learning which includes at least 10 days' formal training o be taught by supervisors of RTS standard o satisfy the OM s diversity and equality policies Learning Outcomes from supervisor training should include as a minimum the demonstration of: o ability to foster an open, trusting working alliance with supervisees in which the supervisee is confident to reveal the difficulties and challenges within his/her work o fulfilment of the four stated aspects of the supervision role of: education, support, evaluation and gatekeeping o ability to match the style of the supervision to the experience, development level and individual needs of the supervisee, with a particular emphasis on demonstrating understanding and capability to work with diversity and equality considerations and issues o ability to work with different ways of evidencing the supervisee s practice according to OM and college specific methodologies, such as CD-Rom, audio or video tapes, transcripts, live supervision etc. o ability to understand and critique work from the standpoint of the client, the therapist and the supervisor o recognition of and ability to work with the parallel systems, transferential phenomena or similar processes as applicable to the modality's approach to supervision o ability to recognise specific abilities as well as limits of the supervisee, where these may be socio-cultural, temperamental, physical within the context of the supervisee s life o understanding the differences between working with individuals and with groups o understanding of the specific context of supervising trainees o appreciation of a sense of responsibility for transparency and accountability as relevant and important in professional practice PCIPC The supervision training is at diploma level as a minimum The training comprises a minimum of 40 hours taught hours The training includes supervision of supervision of not less than 10 hours overall with a minimum of two individual cases or one individual and one group or a combination of both The supervision training programme specifies the minimum entry standard as : i. Applicants are a member of UKCP or an equivalent professional body and work to a code of ethics
4 ii. Applicants can evidence a clinical record of at least 5 years post qualification with the UKCP minimum for post qualification supervision and a minimum of client/patient hours of 1600 iii. Be able to demonstrate a knowledge/experience of a range of work place settings iv. Provide evidence of support for their clinical practice via a reference from their current supervisor C-CAP For a supervision training to be recognised, it should satisfy the following minimum criteria: offer a substantial programme of learning which includes at least 10 days' formal training be child specific be taught by supervisors on the UKCP directory or of a comparable standard satisfy the OM s diversity and equality policies Supervision trainings should include as a minimum: an in depth understanding of the tasks of supervision as described in this document the ability to foster an open, trusting working alliance with supervisees in which the supervisee is confident to reveal the difficulties and challenges within his/her work fulfilment of the four stated aspects of the supervision role of: education, support, evaluation and gatekeeping ability to match the style of the supervision to the experience, development level and individual needs of the supervisee, with a particular emphasis on demonstrating understanding and capability to work with diversity and equality considerations and issues ability to work with different ways of evidencing the supervisee s practice according to OM and college specific methodologies ability to understand and critique work from the standpoint of the client, the therapist and the supervisor recognition of and ability to work with the parallel systems, transferential phenomena or similar processes as applicable to the modality's approach to supervision ability to recognise specific abilities as well as limits of the supervisee, where these may be socio-cultural, temperamental, physical within the context of the supervisee s life understanding the differences between working with individuals and with groups understanding of the specific context of supervising trainees appreciation of a sense of responsibility for transparency and accountability as relevant and important in professional practice
