2 GTU at a Glance Georgian Technical University (GTU) is one of the biggest educational and scientific institutions in Georgia. The university s main focus is to improve its position on the international higher education scene providing opportunities to learn excellent professional and academic skills maintaining internationally competitive education, research and innovation services significant for Georgia s sustained development was founded as a Polytechnical Faculty of Tbilisi State University Georgian Polytechnic Institute was granted the university status and was named the Georgian Technical University (GTU) GTU became a full member of the European University Association EUA Georgia joined Bologna Process

Learning programs are also suited to user needs, as the software offers Complete Beginner, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.

7 Development of New Master's Program Sustainable Energy: Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficient Technologies Production of new energy efficient equipment and renewable energy resources is considered to be effective means of solving the problem of global warming. Georgia has high potential of renewable energy sources and preparation of relevant specialists is of great importance to make use of these resources more effective. In this regard GTU Faculty of Power Engineering and Telecommunications is going to develop new Master's program Sustainable Energy: Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficient Technologies within the Project UNI-SET including efficient use of solar, wind, geothermal, hydro and bio resources.

8 Development of new Master s program is in line with Georgian Energy strategy to promote renewable energy sources (RES) - biomass, hydro, geothermal, bio fuel, solar and wind have technical and economic potential that are currently underutilized. Country s long term strategy encourages Georgia as a regional green electricity trading platform, utilizing bio fuel potential, promoting sustainable biomass production for bio fuels and taking advantage of Georgia's strong agricultural sector. The course will have the pilot feature for the South Caucasus region.

9 Gained competencies and the skills achieved by the successful program implementation will be: Evaluation of renewable energy sources potential for specific conditions and location Making energy-saving technological schemes Design cost-effective installations and determine the expected economic effect Trained specialists will be able to solve complex problems in sphere of renewable energy resources and energy-efficient technologies independently, in line with modern international standards.

10 Energy and Environmental Law Consultancy Bureau At GTU Power Engineering and Telecommunications Faculty was established the Energy and Environmental Law Consultancy Bureau (within TEMPUS Project REGENLAW - Development of Regional Interdisciplinary Post-Graduate Energy and Environmental Law Studies TEMPUS DE-TEMPUS-JPCR) Bureau Activities: GTU Power Energy and Telecommunication Faculty academic staff cooperation with European universities: Shearing the experience in the field of European standards; Elaboration of market economy relevant educational agenda and programs; Create modern literature; Teaching skills training; Exchange of students; Improvement of faculty governance; Using and development of new technologies; Support staff training of the faculty. Implementation of joint projects and structural measures: Improve management of higher education institutions or academic programs; Increase the quality of the higher education system and their convergence with EU developments; Exchange of economic information and data with European universities in the scientific, educational and technical fields.

11 STEM Programs at GTU GTU has been offering Engineering Degrees for decades with special attention to the following STEM fields: Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering (50+ years), Energy and Electrical Engineering (90+ years), Civil Engineering (90+ years), Food Industry, and Forestry (60+ years). GTU participates in Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) project for STEM Higher Education Development in Georgia. Project objectives: Build up capacity in Georgian public universities and to offer international standard US degrees and ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accreditation in STEM fields.

12 STEM Programs at GTU The program is funded by MCC ($29 million grant) and won by San Diego State University of California (SDSU) with Georgian partner universities: Georgian Technical University, Ilia State University and Tbilisi State University. Indicative STEM programs include Electrical (Power) Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering fields at Georgian Technical University.

13 New Program at GTU Under MCC-Georgia s Program In partnership with Auburn University (USA) and Georgian Research and Development Foundation, GTU has submitted project proposal A New Program to Promote Workforce Training in Wireless Engineering Technology to Enhance Economic Development in Georgia in response to the MCC- Georgia s Program Improvement Competitive Grants for Industry-led Skills and Workforce Development Project. A new vocational education center Georgian Wireless Vocational Center (GWVC) will be established and administrated by GTU within this project.

14 ISU/GTU partnership program In line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Iowa State University (ISU) and GTU, a new ISU/GTU partnership program was launched at GTU to align 5 undergraduate programs at a newly established Agrarian Faculty of GTU with ISU's relevant programs and enable program-to-program transfer of Georgian students to ISU after successfully completing two years of study at GTU.

16 International Partnerships GTU has advanced partnerships in the fields of education and research with the world's leading organizations, such as KEK - High Energy Accelerator Research Organisation (Japan), Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (Germany), CERN - European Organization for Nuclear Research (Switzerland), JINR - Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna). Distinguished Professors from various countries are delivering the lectures at the International Design School established at GTU under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Giorgetto Giugiaro, well-known Italian automobile designer.
