3 FORUM Focused Overviews Reviews & Updates in Medicine FORUM is a unique conference conducted annually since 1998 by the Academy of Continuing Medical Education at SMF for all practising physicians. Clinical practice for primary care providers is growing in complexity with a demand to provide quality care coupled with complex psychosocial and economic limitations. In addition a better-informed public and a shifting pattern of health seeking behaviour have changed the doctor patient interaction profoundly. From a clinician's perspective, it requires continuous update of the understanding of diseases, newer diagnostic options and therapies. The scientific sessions in FORUM are designed primarily to meet these needs of busy clinicians. The organizing team has carefully chosen topics of relevance and importance to be presented by national experts. The sessions are purposively concise, yet clear and comprehensive to enable applied learning. The theme for this year s FORUM is ' RESPIRATORY MEDICINE ' and will cater to all practising physicians, primary care providers and post graduates. About SMF Sundaram Medical Foundation (SMF) was established in 1994 with the primary objective of providing quality medical care at affordable cost to middle and lower income groups in the community. Within a short span of twenty one years, under the vision and guiding hand of Dr. S. Rangarajan Founder and Managing Trustee, the hospital has risen to a preeminent position in the health care scene, locally and nationally. It has set a standard and provided an effective and cost conscious model of health care delivery tailored to the needs and limitations of urban India. The SMF Advantage A non-profit trust set up by the Sundaram Finance Group of Companies, SMF is not burdened by high debt servicing costs or debt repayment obligations. Economics in project design and implementation, scrupulous scrutiny of all medical equipment purchases for appropriateness and a carefully tailored group of in-house quality assurance programmes, have resulted in cost saving that have been passed on to the community.
