1 Friday 15 th April 2016 A Message from Mrs Farrow Welcome back! It has been wonderful to begin the term with some beautiful spring weather this week. The children have settled quickly back into the routine of school and have been able to enjoy learning outside in the sunshine. As the weather warms up, we will again be able to have lunch outside at the picnic benches on the playground which the children always enjoy. This week I have seen some amazing home learning about our Queen. Children have taken such creative angles to the homework set and I have given Head Teacher s Awards for paintings, crowns, timelines, posters and PowerPoint presentations. Thank you for supporting your children with this. We have begun our new Learning Cluster of Underwater World. This cluster will have a science focus with links to history and literacy. This cluster will provide a great opportunity for children to use the school pond! The end of Key Stage tests for Year 6 will take place the week beginning Monday 9 th May. The children are all working really hard and both Mrs Harriott and I are impressed by their determination to achieve their best. Well done Year 6; keep it up! Class 2 are looking forward to their visit to Field Farm on Monday and more events and activities are planned across the half-term, so please do keep an eye on the dates section of the newsletter. With regard to the newsletter, the feedback from the parent questionnaire was overwhelmingly positive with regard to the new format. Mrs Reid puts a huge amount of time into preparing such an informative and interesting newsletter every week so I would like to formally thank her. Thank you as always for your support. Mrs V. Farrow Head Teacher Parent Meeting Maths and the New Curriculum Mrs Farrow and Mrs Harriott invite all parents to a meeting to explain the changes in Maths within the New Curriculum. The meeting will take place at 2.15pm on 25 th April 2016; everyone is invited to attend. FoFs Meeting Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend the Friends of Froxfield AGM last night. The minutes and discussion points will be communicated to everyone in the very near future.

2 Friends of Froxfield Sponsored Walk Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate in this year s Friends of Froxfield Sponsored Walk due to take place on Saturday 7 th May, weather dependant. The walk is a pushchair-friendly, one-and-a-half-mile distance, starting at 10am from the school playground. Please bring a picnic to enjoy upon return to the school. Please let Emma (Holly s mum) or Victoria (Ben s mum) know if you wish to join this fundraising activity. Sponsor forms are in today s book bag there will be a prize for the person or people raising the highest amount of money. Welcome back! A big welcome back to Miss Gollogly who has returned to Class One for the next five weeks before she returns to university to complete her studies. Weekly Reading Routine If you, or, anyone you know, would be willing to spend minutes once a week, once a fortnight or once a month listening to children read immediately after drop off in the mornings, please contact the school office. We are particularly short of assistance on Wednesday and Friday mornings and would be very grateful if anyone willing to volunteer their time would step forward. Thank you. Ignite Service Ignite is St Peter s Church monthly family service and will be held this Sunday 17 th April in Froxfield Village Hall at 11am. It is an informal service where all join together for worship led by a band. Children and young people can enjoy their own learning activities. Everyone is invited to attend this family-friendly, contemporary style of Christian worship. Class One Peter Pan Workshop Much excitement took place in Class One on Wednesday when Peter Pan took everyone on an adventure to retrieve treasure from Captain Hook. The fantastic workshop was truly enjoyed by all the children. You will have found fliers in book bags earlier in the week giving further details of future workshops.

3 Niece of Nelson Mandela Mia, Alexi, John, Chloe and Megan were incredibly fortunate to visit Horndean Technology College on Thursday to meet the niece of Nelson Mandela along with a number of other schools in southern Hampshire. Various workshops and topics of discussion took place throughout the morning based on Mandela s legacy on the importance of inclusion for all. The workshops involved learning about asylum seekers and refugees. Mrs Vickery who accompanied the children said it was extremely interesting and very educational for everyone attending. Froxfield and Privett Village Fete Sunday 26 th June 2016 A volunteer list has been placed in the school office for the Froxfield Fete taking place at the end of June. If you feel you would like to help, please sign your name against one of the proposed stalls of your choice. Suggestions for any new stalls would also be very welcome. Raffle tickets for this event are in book bags this afternoon and are priced at 1.00 per ticket. For your chance to win 250 cash, a night of Dinner, Bed and breakfast at The Granary in Froxfield, a 50 voucher to spend in Froxfield Village Stores or many, many more wonderful prizes, please return completed ticket stubs and money to the school office. The proceeds of this year s fete will be divided between Froxfield Village Hall, St Peter s Church High Cross, improvements to Froxfield Village Hall car park, Privett Village Hall and will also enable the purchase of a new bike for our school. If you would be willing to offer a raffle prize, please contact Mrs Redding (Daisy s mum in Year 6) on Adventurers Club Apologies if the messages sent this week have been misleading. To clarify, Adventurers after school club will continue to run on Wednesdays after school as normal. In addition to the Wednesday session, Mrs Primrose (Ben s mum) and Mrs Cooke (Joshua and Charlie s mum) will now be offering an additional Summer Special Adventurers on Tuesdays after school if enough children would like to join.
