5 Introduction Features and Benefits This document details setup and calibration information for Planar s EP series optical touch screen. Designed for large-format display applications, the EP series supports basic mouse use, as well as Windows 7 multi-touch functions, such as zoom, rotate, tap and press-and-tap. The Plug-and-Play functionality enables ease of setup by simply plugging the touch screen into the PC without additional drivers. Note: For detailed information about how to install and operate the LCD panels, refer to the ep46l/ep55l User Guide, which is located on the USB drive. 6 Features and Benefits Connecting the Touch Screen Connect the USB cable from the USB port on the display to a computer. The touch screen supports easy Plug-and-Play operations. There is no need to install additional drivers on the computer. 2 EP Series Touch User Guide

7 Performing Basic Functions Using the Touch Screen You can use the optical touch screen to control your operating system. The touch screen can emulate basic mouse functions and supports multi-touch functions for Windows 7*. The following table shows a list of functions you can use on the touch screen. Note: *Ensure that you have installed the USB cable on the display to a computer. Performing Basic Functions The following table shows how to perform basic tasks using the touch screen for Windows XP, Vista and 7, Mac OSX and Linux. Function Click Action Tap the screen once. Double-click Tap the screen twice. Right-click Press on the target. Hold and wait for a blue ring to appear. Release your finger. Drag or select Drag one finger left or right. 8 Multi-Touch Functions Pan up/down/back /forward Quickly drag your finger (flick) in a desired direction. Wake up from Windows sleep mode (S3) Press and hold for four seconds. Multi-Touch Functions The following table shows how to perform multi-touch tasks using the touch screen for Windows 7 - Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate versions. Function Right-click Action Press on the target. Tap the screen with another finger. Release the second finger. Scrolling Drag one or two fingers up or down. or Zoom Move two fingers apart or toward each other. 4 EP Series Touch User Guide

13 Side Ambient Light Recommendations Due to the optical nature of touch screens, installations close to windows and/or glass doors are not recommended. Doing so may reduce touch reliability due to direct and/or indirect sunlight interference. Note: Avoid installation close to windows. Direct and indirect sunlight may affect touch performance. 14 Side Calibrating the Touch Screen Module The touch display is calibrated and ready for use but may require re-calibration depending on use condition or whenever needed. 1 Install Microsoft.NET Framework 4 only if the PC is running the XP operating system. 2 Run the Calibration Utility by selecting Calibration Utility via the Windows Task bar (Start > All Programs > NextWindow > NextWindow folder). 10 EP Series Touch User Guide

15 Side 3 The following window is displayed. 4 Click Calibrate to begin touch screen calibration. The control PC will display the following screen, which includes instructions to assist you in screen calibration and shows a cross in the upper left corner. 5 Touch the cross in the upper left corner for two seconds with a finger, stylus, etc. The Calibration Utility will record the relevant information and three other crosses will appear in the corners of the screen. Touch each remaining cross for two seconds as it appears. 6 Once the Calibration Utility has captured the positions of the pointers on the screen, it will close down and the display is ready to operate in touch screen mode.
