2 Library Loaner Laptops: (Windows Dell Latitude 505D) 1. First make sure the laptop is turned off. 2. Then connect the Planar monitor s VGA cable to the computer s VGA plug located on the back of the laptop. 15-hole VGA connector 3. Next turn on the Planar monitor by pressing and holding the Power button briefly on the bottom right corner of the screen. A green light should turn on. 4. Then turn on the laptop. 5. Log onto the laptop using the User Name associated with the laptop. 6. The Planar monitor should display what the laptop monitor is displaying. If It Does Work Not Follow these Instructions: 1. Press the Source button on the Planar monitor until D SUB is displayed on the screen. The laptop should display on the monitor within a few seconds. 2 P age

3 Guest Owned Laptops: (Microsoft Windows) 1. First make sure computer is off. 2. Next Connect either the VGA or DVI connection cable (choose only one) of the Planar monitor to your laptop. Use whichever one your laptop supports. If both are supported DVI is preferable. 3. Then turn on the Planar monitor by pressing and holding the Power button briefly on the bottom right corner of the screen. A green light will turn on. Turn on the computer. 4. Note: Upon reaching Windows the Planar monitor will not display your computer yet. 5. Right-click on the desktop. Click Properties in the menu. The Display Properties window will appear. (screen shot 1) 6. Click on the Settings tab (upper part of window). (screen shot 2) 7. Click the Advanced button on the bottom right of the window. A new window will appear. Click on the tab corresponding to your computer s video card. It is usually identified by your video card s model name (making it the longest named tab) and/or a small logo corresponding to the video card s manufacturer. (screen shot 3) 8. Within this tab you must find another tab or button labeled Monitors, External Display Devices, or Dual Display. (screen shot 4) 9. An option for a secondary display device should appear. The option should be selected as Monitor. Click Apply then OK. The Planar monitor should display what s visible on your computer screen. If It Does Work Not Follow these Instructions: 10.If you are connected to the monitor through the VGA cable press the Source button until D SUB appears onscreen; if you are connected through the DVI cable press the button until DVI appears onscreen. The computer should display on the monitor in a few seconds. 3 P age

4 Guest and University Owned Laptops: Laptops (Macintosh) 1. You will need the monitor adapter available to be checked out at the Circulation Desk in order to connect the laptop to the Planar monitor. 2. ( If you have your own adapter please check to see if it is the correct one) 3. Make sure the computer is turned on. 4. Connect the adapter to the mini DVI port (identified by this symbol: ) and connect the other end to the monitor s DVI connector. 5. Press the Source button on the Planar monitor until the screen reads DVI. 6. On your keyboard pressing the F7 key and selects between two display modes: 7. 1 The Planar monitor becomes an extension of your laptop monitor accessible by moving your mouse pointer past the right edge of your laptop monitor. Drag and drop any windows you choose to be visible on the Planar monitor The Planar monitor displays what is visible on your laptop monitor. 4 P age
