1 Kentucky School Plant Management Association School Maintenance Technician Certification Program Levels 1, 2, & 3 The School Maintenance Technician Certification Program is a comprehensive instructional and certification program especially designed for persons responsible for the physical plant and the operations of school facilities in the state of Kentucky. Program Coursework The curriculum of a school maintenance technician certification program focuses on teaching school employees to maintain the interior of the building, the building systems, the exterior of the building, and the roads grounds associated with the campus buildings. Program course work includes: Cleaning Maintenance Building systems Roads and grounds maintenance and upkeep Athletic fields & buildings, tracks & tennis courts, & swimming pools Energy conservation Safety Customer service Teamwork Course content, testing, and Continuing Education requirement will be monitored by the KSPMA Board through assigned committees to insure quality and pertinent content for the purpose of professional management of the schools of the Commonwealth. Who Will Benefit School District employees with the responsibility of dealing with the maintenance and operation of facilities will benefit from being part of the KSPMA General Maintenance Certification Program. 2 Instructional Location The program is to be presented in a multi-region setting strategically located that will allow the participant to travel less than100 miles. The East, West, and Central Training Facilitators will set up and monitor the instruction in their appropriate areas. Course Topics and Presentation Course topics and dates will be selected by the Regional Directors participating in the selected instructional location. 4 General Blueprint Reading Energy Management Maintenance Management Systems (work order & inventory systems) Certification Eligibility Certifications are for those individuals currently employed in Kentucky s school facilities. Level I Certification requires successful completion of 20 hours of Level I curriculum. Level II Certification requires successful completion of 10 hours of Level II curriculum after completion of Level I Level III Certification requires successful completion of 10 hours of Level III curriculum after completion of Level II. Continuing Education Units (CEU) Annual renewal (after successful completion of Level III) requires eight (8) CEU s and continues employment in public or private educational system. One (1) CEU may be obtained for each breakout and general session by attending the Annual KSPMA conference. One (1) CEU may be obtained for each hour attending the KSPMA preconference training. 5 CEU s may be obtained by attending KSPMA approved Joint-State Associations Training Seminars. CEU s may be obtained through other professional training with prior approval of the KSPMA Executive Secretary. Compensation & Record Keeping It is solely up to the School District s discretion as to the compensation or method of compensation that the District is willing to provide to the employee for the successful completion of the program. KSPMA will provide to the school district annual records certifying the training status of the employee. Certification Program
