2 MAKE IT LOCAL. Kendall s Dual Enrollment program is a great way for motivated high school juniors and seniors who are strong in art to get a jump-start on their college education. We currently offer Dual Enrollment programs on 25 high school campuses throughout the state of Michigan with more to come. And in most cases, you can even receive tuition support through the State of Michigan School Aid Act.

3 BENEFITS ACADEMIC Students can earn up to 10 percent, or 12 college credits, toward their college degree while still in high school. Kendall s Dual Enrollment instructors are carefully selected for their award-winning programs and their expertise in advanced art education. According to Sandy Britton, Director of Enrollment Management, Kendall s Dual Enrollment teachers are in the top 10 percent of Michigan s high school art teachers. PERSONAL Many of Kendall s Dual Enrollment students have won numerous awards in the largest and most prestigious national arts competition in the United States, The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. In addition, our Dual Enrollment students have gone on to win scholarships to Kendall and other fine art and design colleges throughout the United States. In 2009 alone, our Dual Enrollment program averaged $104,000 of student scholarships per location. FINANCIAL Students and families can save money on college tuition. For the academic year, one three-credit Dual Enrollment studio course costs a total of $642. This same course for a student attending Kendall after completing high school would cost $1,839. This means a cost savings of $1,197 right from the start. In addition, Dual Enrollment students may be eligible for funding assistance through the State of Michigan School Aid Act of 1979 a percentage of the foundation allowance your school district receives for your attendance at your high school may be used toward the tuition cost for the Kendall Dual Enrollment course. Just ask your high school guidance counselor for more information regarding how your foundation allowance applies to Dual Enrollment. COLLEGE CREDIT ONLY Not all high schools allow their students to dual enroll. In these cases, students can take Kendall Dual Enrollment classes for college credit only. The discounted Dual Enrollment rate still applies. When taken as college credit only, the student/parent is responsible for tuition.

6 APPLICATION / ELIGIBILITY Dual Enrollment is open to high school students who meet the following requirements: Are recommended by a high school art teacher Complete a portfolio review with an off-campus Dual Enrollment teacher or an on-campus Kendall admissions advisor Are high school juniors or seniors Complete the Kendall Dual Enrollment application form at kcad.edu/admissions/dual-enrollment and include permission signatures see application Submit an official copy of your high school transcript and ACT/SAT test scores (if taken) (Note: Students who do not meet these requirements may be admitted under special circumstances.) CLASSES (Course offerings may vary by location.) Drawing I (KCDR 131) Study the process of drawing as observation and conceptualization through eye-hand coordination. Course emphasizes linear construction with concern for accurate proportion and simple positive-negative/figure-ground relationships. Includes an in-depth study of linear perspective. 2D Design (KCPA 110) A problem-solving course covering the principles of composition and modular design systems, using predominately abstract shapes and black, white and achromatic gray ranges. 3D Design (KCSF 111) Explore the elements, principles and aesthetic concepts integral to threedimensional design. Consider relationships between concept, process, materials and tools. Color (KCPA 112) A problem-solving course studying the properties and interactions of color and its resulting perceptual effects in pictorial space. Introduction to Graphic Design (KCDG 120) Focus on the principles, elements and working procedures of the design and visual presentation of communication pieces. Graphics Studio II (KCDG 122) Study the basics of photography using the digital camera and photo manipulation software as a digital darkroom for color correction and digital manipulation.
