1 USA VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS UNIFORM SUMMARY February 11, 2016 What follows is a compilation of uniform, jersey, and jersey combinations by the USAV Rules Interpreter, Paul Albright. The photo gallery below is sorted with the most recent rulings at the top of the document. We advise you to visit this document periodically and consider bookmarking this page on your mobile device for quick access. For ease of viewing, any updates or changes will be added to the top of the document, with a new date listed for those changes. You only need to view the new additions when opening the document again. Teams that utilize the uniforms are not identified, but the jerseys/uniforms are illustrated as best we can along with the interpreter s final ruling. The manufacturer s jerseys shown in this document without logos, numbers, player/team names but listed as compliant, are still subject to the logo and player/team name restrictions as described in the solid colored jersey module, and must also follow the rules regarding clear contrast and placement of the numbers when printed on the jerseys. Compliant: Jersey ruled as a solid color jersey per USAV Rule 19.2 Illegal: Jersey has been ruled as illegal and cannot be worn during play. Illegal combination: Both jerseys are legal, BUT, the solid color jersey does not contrast with the color(s) of the regular jerseys.

3 Illegal and noncompliant. Red, white, and blue are all predominant colors, so solid color jersey must contrast with all three colors. Solid color jersey cannot be red, white, or blue. Numbers on jersey are not clearly visible from all angles and do not contrast with jersey colors. Thus, jerseys are illegal. NA DATE OF RULING Illegal The jerseys are legal IF all logos are identical. As pictured here, there are three different logo styles. #27 and #3 can be worn on the court together, all others would be illegal. JAN 17, 2016 Jersey is illegal. Numbers not contrasting color. Rule : Color and brightness of the numbers must contrast with the color and brightness of the jerseys. February 11, 2016 Page 3

4 Jersey is legal AND compliant. Team name (as illustrated: RVVC) and player s name may both be placed on back (or front) of jersey as long as the number is in a legal location. Jersey is illegal. Illegal number location on front of jersey. USAV a: Uniform numbers must be clearly visible and centered (both horizontally and vertically) on the players chest and upper back. Jerseys legal, but non-compliant, so cannot be worn in combination with each other. Compliant jersey must be solid color. USAV 19.2 February 11, 2016 Page 4

5 Jerseys legal and compliant. Piping/trim on a working seam is no wider at any point than 1. USAV 19.2 Legal configuration. The Libero is in a multi-colored jersey, while other team members are in compliant jerseys. The white in the multi-colored jersey is not considered as a predominant color since the red is clearly more than 50% of the jersey color. February 11, 2016 Page 5

6 Legal and compliant. Jerseys have a mesh panel which is same color and hue as the body of the jersey. Numbers are in good location on upper back. Legal configuration. White jersey is solid white, and thus compliant. White panels on blue jersey are wider than 1 so blue is not a solid color jersey, but not large enough to be ruled as a predominant color. Illegal configuration and jerseys. Neither jersey is legal or compliant, so they cannot be worn on the court during play. Number location on the front of the jerseys is too low to make these jerseys legal. February 11, 2016 Page 6

7 Legal but noncompliant jersey. Multi colored jerseys have no restrictions on logo or player/team names on back or front of jersey, provided the logos or printed names do not adversely affect the number placement. Legal configuration. Jersey has white sleeves and panel of white down sides. White not considered a predominant color; so solid-colored jersey of light gold is contrasting. Possibly Illegal configuration. Since the multicolored jersey has sleeves, shoulders and side panels in white, this amount of the white color could be considered to be predominant. If the white side panels are of significant enough width to make white approximately half of the jersey color, this would not be a legal combination. February 11, 2016 Page 7

8 Non-contrasting. The yellow and orange are not in clear contrast to each other, so they may not be worn on the court at the same time. Legal configuration and legal, compliant uniforms. The green and white are clearly contrasting, making this a legal configuration. Both jerseys are also legal and compliant since a player s name and team name are allowed on the jersey. The number placement is also legal. Mizuno Balboa 3.0 SS Jersey Compliant. The stitching is all on working seams, and less than 1 wide along the entire length of the stitching. 9 Mizuno Balboa 4.0 LS Jersey Compliant. The stitching is all on working seams, and less than 1 wide along the entire length of the stitching. Mizuno Classic Newport LS/SS Jersey (LS shown) Compliant. The stitching is all on working seams, and less than 1 wide along the entire length of the stitching. All panels are the color and hue, even if different materials. Mizuno Classic Newport LS/SS Jersey (LS shown) Non-compliant. 10 Mizuno Chevron Legal, but Noncompliant. The stripes on the jersey are not on a working seam, making the jersey non-compliant. The numbers are in a good location, so jersey is legal. Legal Configuration. Assuming the orange/black jersey does not have 6-8 inches of black along the bottom, orange is the only predominant color. The solid black is a legal combination with the orange and black jersey. Legal, but Noncompliant. The blue stripes at the bottom of the jersey are not on a working seam, making the jersey non-compliant. The numbers are in a good location, so jersey is legal. February 11, 2016 Page 10

11 Nike Ace SS Jersey Compliant White collar is not part of solid-colored rule. Width of white trim on sleeve is less than 1 at widest point. NA Legal, but noncompliant The jersey has two logos on the back, one on each sleeve, and two down the left side under the arm. The red panels are also not solid color since they consist of a multitude of blue stars. These all make the jersey non-compliant. Asics Legal and compliant IF shoulder panel is the same color as the body of the jersey. White trim is less than 1 along entire length and is located on a working seam. Legal, but noncompliant IF shoulder panel is not same color as body of the jersey. February 11, 2016 Page 11
