5 Foreword Foreword This guide is intended to be used with phones running EMUI 3.1. All pictures and illustrations are for your reference only and may differ from the final product. The features described in this guide may not be available on all phones or carriers due to local service supplier policy. Symbols and definitions Note Caution Highlights important information and tips, and provides additional information. Indicates potential problems that may arise, such as device damage or data loss, if proper care or attention is not given. 6 Highlights Highlights Time-lapse mode Use this mode to create an accelerated video of a slow-changing scene, such as the sunset or sunrise. 1 On the home screen, touch Camera. 2 Swipe left or right to select Time-lapse. 3 Touch to start recording. 4 Touch to stop recording. The captured video will be played back at an accelerated pace. Thumb mode Thumb mode makes it easier to use phones with large screens and quickly share QR contact cards with friends. One-hand layout 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 2 Under All, touch One-hand UI > One-hand layout. 3 Enable One-hand layout. You can then swipe the virtual navigation bar to either side to change the screen layout, bringing everything within reach. This feature is available only on phones that support a virtual navigation bar. If the virtual navigation bar is replaced by film navigation keys, this feature will not be available. 2

7 Shifting keyboard Highlights 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 2 Under All, touch One-hand UI > Shifting keyboard. 3 Enable Shifting keyboard. You can then touch the arrow on either side of the screen to move the keyboard, dialer, or in-call menu to the side within reach. This feature may not be available on all phones. Moving the screen down On the contacts, dialer, messaging, or screen, if you can't reach items near the top of the screen, touch the upper half of the screen and drag down and release (after 1 second) to shift the entire interface down closer to your thumb. From the dialer, contacts or messaging screen, drag down and then release to display your personal QR contact card. Your friends can scan this to obtain your phone number instantly. 3

8 Highlights Safe The safe is a secure storage location where you can store your important and private data. Enabling the safe 1 On the home screen, touch Files. 2 Under Categories or Local, touch Safe. 3 Touch Enable. 4 Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your password and set up the security question, and then touch Done. Adding files to the safe 1 On the home screen, touch Files. 2 Under Categories or Local, touch Safe. 3 Enter the password, and then touch Done. 4

10 Getting started Getting started Locking and unlocking the screen Locking the screen Method 1: Press the power button to manually lock the screen. Method 2: After being idle for a specified period of time, the screen will lock itself automatically. Unlocking the screen When the screen is off, press the power button to turn it on. Slide your finger in any direction to unlock the screen. Connecting to a Wi-Fi network 1 Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. 2 Under Shortcuts, touch and hold to enter the Wi-Fi settings. 6

11 Getting started 3 Turn on Wi-Fi. Your phone then scans for available Wi-Fi networks and lists them on the screen. 4 Select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to. If the Wi-Fi network is encrypted, enter the password when prompted. Turning on mobile data 1 Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. 2 Under Shortcuts, touch to enable mobile data. When you don't need to access the Internet, disable mobile data to save battery power and reduce data usage. Connecting your phone to a computer Use a USB cable to connect your phone to a computer. Follow the onscreen instructions and select a connection mode to transfer photos, videos, songs, and other files between your phone and computer. Photos Files USB drive Read, manage, and transfer multimedia files in your phone storage. For details, see Connecting in picture transfer mode. Read, manage, and transfer files in your phone storage. For details, see Connecting in media transfer mode. If you have a microsd card installed, you can use your phone as a USB storage device, read data on the microsd card, and transfer data to and from a computer. For details, see Connecting in USB flash drive mode. 7

12 Importing contacts from your old phone You can import contacts from your old phone in any of the following ways: Getting started SIM card Storage device Bluetooth Backup Computer Other accounts Copy your contacts on your SIM card to your new phone. For details, see Importing contacts from a SIM card. If your old phone has a microsd card slot, export the contacts in your old phone to a microsd card as a vcard file, and then import the contacts to your new phone. For details, see Importing contacts from a storage device. Enable Bluetooth on both your old and new phones, and import your contacts using Bluetooth. For details, see Importing contacts from a Bluetooth device. If your old phone supports Backup, back up your contacts, and restore them to your new phone. For details, see Backup. Synchronize your contacts from your old phone to a computer, and use phone management software on the computer, such as HiSuite, to synchronize them to your new phone. Install social network applications and synchronize contacts from your social network accounts. Log in to your Exchange account and synchronize your contacts. Touchscreen gestures Touch: Tap an item once. For example, touch to confirm an action or open an application. 8

13 Getting started Touch and hold: Touch and leave your finger on the screen for 2 seconds or more. For example, touch and hold a blank area on the home screen to enter editing mode. Swipe: Move your finger vertically or horizontally across the screen. For example, you can swipe left or right under Notifications in the notification panel to dismiss a notification. Swipe horizontally or vertically to transition through home screens, scroll through a document, and more. Drag: Touch and hold an item and then move it to another position. For example, you can rearrange applications and widgets on the home screen this way. Pinch two fingers out: Spread two fingers apart on the screen. For example, pinch two fingers out to zoom in on a picture or web page. 9

Pinch three fingers together: On the home screen, pinch three fingers together to display screen thumbnails. Motion control Motion control lets you control your phone using simple motions and gestures. For example, mute the phone by turning it over or raise the phone to your ear to answer and make calls quickly. 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 2 Under All, touch Motion control. 3 On the Motion control screen, select an option, and select a motion to enable it. Flip: Mute sounds and stop vibration from incoming calls, alarms, and timers. Shake: Touch and hold a blank area on the home screen to enter editing mode. Shake your phone to organize your icons. 10

15 Getting started Double touch: Touch the screen twice to turn it on. Draw: When your phone's screen is turned off, draw a letter to open the corresponding application. 17 Home screen Getting started Your home screens are where you can find your favorite widgets and all your applications. We did away with the application list to give you a more convenient and direct path to your applications Status bar: displays notifications and icons. Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. Display area: displays application icons, folders, and widgets. Screen position indicator: indicates which home screen is displayed. Dock: displays frequently used applications. Navigation bar: displays virtual keys (only applicable to phones with virtual navigation keys). Switching between home screens Swipe left or right to view the extended home screen. Touch default home screen. Home to return to the Swipe left or right to view all home screens. 13

18 Getting started Automatic screen rotation If you rotate your phone when browsing a web page or viewing a photo, the screen orientation changes automatically between landscape and portrait mode. This feature allows you to enjoy tilt-controlled applications, such as racing games. 1 Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. 2 Under Shortcuts, touch Auto-rotate to enable or disable screen rotation. Organizing applications and widgets on the home screen The following operations allow you to organize your applications, widgets, or folders: Adding a widget: On the home screen, pinch two fingers together to enter home screen editing mode. Touch Widgets and select a widget. The widget will be added to a blank area on the home screen. You must have enough space on the home screen to add the widget. If there is not enough space, add another home screen or free up some space on the current screen. Moving an application or widget: On the home screen, touch and hold an application icon or widget until your phone vibrates. You can then drag the application icon or widget to the desired location. Deleting an application or widget: On the home screen, touch and hold the application icon or widget you want to delete until is displayed. Drag the unwanted application icon or widget to. 14

19 Getting started Creating a folder: On the home screen, drag an icon on top of another icon to create a folder containing both applications. To rename the folder, open the folder and then touch and hold the folder name. Hiding application icons: Place two fingers on the home screen and pinch out. Touch, select the application icons you want to hide, and then touch OK. Applications will not appear on the home screen after they have been hidden. Managing home screens On the home screen, pinch three fingers together to display the home screen thumbnails. Setting the default home screen: Touch at the bottom of the screen to set the current home screen as the default home screen. Moving a home screen: Touch and hold the home screen until your phone vibrates. Drag the home screens to adjust their positions. Adding a home screen: Touch Deleting a home screen: Touch to add a home screen. to delete a blank home screen. 15

20 Notifications Getting started Status indicator The status indicator on your phone indicates the following status information: Blinking red: The battery level is low. Steady red (when charging): The battery level is low. Steady yellow (when charging): The battery level is medium. Steady green (when charging): The battery is almost full or already full. Blinking green: There are unread messages or notifications. Notification panel Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. Swipe left or right to switch between the notification and shortcut tabs. 1 2 Touch to view the notification details and swipe left or right across a notification to dismiss it. Clear all notifications. 16

21 Getting started 3 4 Enable or disable automatic screen brightness. Touch the shortcut switches to enable or disable the corresponding functions. Accessing applications Opening and switching between applications On the home screen, touch an icon to open the corresponding application. To switch to another application, touch Home to return to the home screen, and touch the icon of the application you want to open. If you have installed many applications on your phone and you can't find the application you want quickly on the home screen, swipe down and search for the application in the search bar. Viewing recently used applications Touch Recent to display the list of recently used applications. Then you can: Touch a thumbnail to open the corresponding application. Swipe left or right to view recently used applications. 17

22 Getting started Swipe up on a thumbnail to close the corresponding application. Swipe down on a thumbnail to display at the top of the thumbnail and lock the corresponding application. Swipe down on the thumbnail again to unlock the application. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen until is displayed to close all applications in the list. Locked applications will not be closed. Personalizing your phone Changing the home screen style You can choose from the standard and simple home screen styles as desired. 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 2 Under All, touch Home screen style. 3 Select Simple and then touch. Touch Standard home to switch from the simple home screen to the standard home screen. Changing the theme 1 On the home screen, touch Themes. 2 Swipe left or right to browse themes. You can: Select a theme. Touch and customize the theme style, wallpaper, font, and more. 3 Touch. Changing the wallpaper 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 2 Under General, touch Wallpaper. 3 On the Wallpapers screen, you can: 18

23 Getting started Touch Lock screen wallpaper to set the lock screen wallpaper. Touch Home screen wallpaper to set the home screen wallpaper. Touch the Shake to change switch to make the home screen wallpaper change when you shake your phone. Touch the Random change switch to make the home screen wallpaper change automatically at periodic intervals. Changing the ringtone 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 2 Under General, touch Sound. 3 Touch Phone ringtone or Default notification tone, and then choose one of the following tabs: Ringtone: Choose from the preset ringtones. Music: Choose from the audio files stored on your phone. If your phone has dual SIM support, you can set different ringtones for each SIM card. 4 Touch. Changing the font size 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 2 Under General, touch Font. 3 Touch Font size. 4 Follow the onscreen instructions to select the font size. 19

24 Entering text Getting started Touch a text input box to bring up the onscreen keyboard. To hide the keyboard, touch. Switching between input methods Your phone comes with multiple text input methods. You can choose one of them to input text. 1 On the text input screen, swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. 2 Under Notifications, touch Select input method. 3 Select an input method. To change your phone's default input method, touch Settings on the home screen. Under All, touch Language & input > Default keyboard, and then select an input method. Huawei Swype input method Slide across letters to enter a word. Switch between lowercase and uppercase letters. 20

25 Getting started Touch and hold to access input method settings. Enter numbers and symbols. Touch and hold to view more language input options. Switch to voice input. Touch to delete the character preceding the cursor. Touch and hold to delete multiple characters preceding the cursor. Android input method Touch to switch between lowercase and uppercase letters. Touch and hold or quickly touch twice to enable caps lock. Enter numbers and symbols. Touch to enter a comma. Touch and hold to open the input options menu. Touch to enter a space. Touch and hold to choose another input method. Touch to enter a period. Touch and hold to enter symbols. 21

The Android input method may not be available on all phones. Editing text You can select, cut, copy, and paste text on your phone. Select text: Touch and hold the text to bring up. Then drag or to select more or less text, or touch Select all to select all text in a text box. Copy text: Select text and touch Copy. Cut text: Select text and touch Cut. Paste text: Touch and hold where you want to insert the text and then touch Paste. 22

27 Calls and contacts Calls and contacts Making a call Smart dialing Smart dialing lets you quickly find contacts by entering parts of their names or numbers. 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Dialer, enter the initials or first few letters of a contact's name, or part of the contact's phone number. Any matches in your contacts list or call log are then displayed above the dialer. 3 From the list, select the contact you want to call. If your phone has dual SIM support, touch 1 or 2 to make a call. 4 To end the call, touch. Making a call from Contacts 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Contacts, touch the contact you want to call. 3 Touch the contact number. If your phone has dual SIM support, touch 1 or 12 to make a call. Making a call from the call log 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Dialer, from the call log, select the contact or number you want to call. If your phone has dual SIM support, touch 1 or 2 to make a call. Making an emergency call In the event of an emergency, you can make emergency calls from your phone, even without a SIM card. However, you must be in an area with cellular coverage. 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 23

28 Calls and contacts 2 Under Dialer, enter your local emergency number, and then touch. On some phone models, you can even make an emergency call from the lock screen. On the lock screen, touch Emergency call, enter your local emergency number, and then touch. The ability to make emergency calls depends on local regulations and carriers in your region. Poor network usability or environmental interference may prevent your call from being connected. Never rely solely on your phone for essential communication during emergencies. Speed-dialing 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Dialer, touch > Speed dial settings. 3 Touch. Choose a contact from the list and assign a number key to the contact. The number key 1 is the default key for voic . It can't be set as a speed-dial number. 4 On the dialer, touch and hold the number key assigned to a contact to quickly call the contact. If your phone has dual SIM support, on the dialer, touch and hold a number key assigned to a contact, and then touch 1 or 2 to quickly call the contact. Making an international call 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 On the dialer, touch and hold 0 to enter +. 3 Enter the country or region code, area code, and phone number in sequence. 4 Touch. If your phone has dual SIM support, touch 1 or 2. When roaming, you can select the phone number of a stored contact to call the contact directly. 24

29 Answering or rejecting a call Calls and contacts When a call comes in, you can press the volume button to mute the ringtone. 31 Answering a third-party call Calls and contacts Before you answer a third-party call, make sure that you have enabled call waiting. For details, contact your carrier. 1 If a call comes in when you are already in another call, drag right to answer the new call and place the first call on hold. 2 Touch to switch between the two calls. Making a conference call It's easy to set up a conference call using the multi-party call feature on your phone. Call one number (or receive a call), and then call another number to add it to the conference call. Conference calling may not be supported by all mobile plans. Please make sure you have subscribed to this service. For details, contact your carrier. 1 Call the first participant. 2 When the call is connected, touch to call the second participant. The first participant will be placed on hold. 3 When the second call is connected, touch to start a conference call. 4 To add more people to the call, repeat steps 2 and 3. 5 Touch to end the call. Using the call log Records of all outgoing, incoming, and missed calls are stored in your call log. Adding a contact from the call log 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Dialer, touch next to the number you want to add. 3 Touch or. 27

32 Calls and contacts You can also touch and hold the number you want to add, and then touch Create new contact or Save to existing contact. Deleting call records 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Dialer, you can: Touch and hold a contact name or phone number, and then touch Delete entry to delete the call record. Touch > Delete call log to delete multiple records simultaneously. Turning on pocket mode If you're ever worried about missing important calls when your phone is in your pocket or bag, try turning on pocket mode. Once enabled, pocket mode will gradually increase the ringtone volume and vibration intensity for incoming calls. 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Dialer, touch > Call settings. 3 Turn on Pocket mode. Call settings Enabling call forwarding If you aren't able to take calls on your phone, you can forward them to another number. 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Dialer, touch > Call settings. 3 Touch Call forwarding. If your phone has dual SIM support, touch Call forwarding under Card 1 settings or Card 2 settings. 4 Select a forwarding mode. 5 Enter the phone number to which you want to forward calls, and then touch Enable. 28

33 Calls and contacts Enabling call waiting The call waiting function allows you to answer an incoming call during an active call, and freely switch between the two. 1 On the home screen, touch Dialer. 2 Under Dialer, touch > Call settings. 3 Touch Additional settings. If your phone has dual SIM support, touch Card 1 settings or Card 2 settings and then Additional settings. 4 Touch the Call waiting switch to enable this function. Managing contacts Creating a contact 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch. 3 Select a location to save the contact from the options menu. 4 Enter the contact name, phone number, and other details. 5 Touch. Editing a contact 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch and hold the contact you want to edit, and then touch Edit. 3 Edit the contact information. 4 Touch. Deleting contacts 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch > Delete. 29

34 Calls and contacts 3 Select the contacts you want to delete or touch Select all to select all contacts. 4 Touch. 5 Touch Delete. Searching for a contact 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Enter the contact name or initials. Matching contacts are displayed as you type. Importing or exporting contacts Your phone supports.vcf contact files..vcf is a standard file format for storing contact information, including names, addresses, and phone numbers. Importing contacts from a storage device 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch > Import/Export > Import from storage. 3 Select one or more.vcf files, and then touch OK. Importing contacts from a SIM card 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch > Import/Export > Import from SIM card. If your phone has dual SIM support, you can choose whether to import from SIM 1 or SIM 2. 3 Select the contacts you want to import or touch Select all to select all contacts, and then touch. 4 Choose the location to where you want to import contacts. Your phone will automatically import the contacts. Importing contacts from a Bluetooth device 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 30

35 Calls and contacts 2 Touch > Import/Export > Import from another phone. 3 Select Supports Bluetooth and then touch Next. 4 Turn on Bluetooth on the device from which you want to import contacts and set the device to be visible to other Bluetooth devices. 5 Touch Next. Your phone then turns on Bluetooth and scans for Bluetooth devices. 6 Touch the Bluetooth device from which you want to import contacts. Once the two devices are connected, your phone will automatically import contacts from the other Bluetooth device. Importing contacts using Wi-Fi Direct 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch > Import/Export > Import from another phone. 3 Select Import via Wi-Fi Direct and then touch Next. Your phone then prompts you to turn on Wi-Fi and scans for Wi-Fi Direct devices. 4 Touch the Wi-Fi Direct device from which you want to import contacts. Once the two devices are connected, your phone will automatically import contacts from the other device. Exporting contacts to a storage device 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch > Import/Export > Export to storage. 3 Touch Export. 4 Choose where you want to export the contacts from and touch OK. The exported.vcf file is saved to the root directory of your phone's internal storage by default. You can open Files to view the exported file. Exporting contacts to a SIM card 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 31

If your phone has dual SIM support, you can choose whether to export to SIM 1 or SIM 2. 3 Select the contacts you want to export or touch Select all to select all contacts, and then touch. 4 Touch OK. Sharing contacts 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch > Import/Export > Share contacts. 3 Select the contacts you want to share or touch Select all to select all contacts. 4 Touch. Select a sharing method and then follow the onscreen instructions to share the contacts. Adding a contact to your favorites 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch and hold the contact you want to add to your favorites, and then touch Add to favorites. When viewing contact details, you can also touch favorites. to add the contact to your Contact groups You can add contacts on your phone to a contact group. This makes it easier to send messages or s to all group members at once. Creating a contact group 1 On the home screen, touch Contacts. 2 Touch Groups then. 32

Taking a panoramic photo 1 On the home screen, touch Camera. 2 Touch > Panorama to switch to panorama shooting mode. 3 Touch to start shooting. 4 Follow the onscreen instructions and move your phone slowly to capture multiple photos. 5 Touch to stop shooting. The camera automatically stitches the photos together to create one panoramic photograph. To change the video resolution, touch > > Resolution on the video capture screen. GPS tag: Display the location where the photo or video was taken. Preferred save location: Set the default save location for your photos and videos. ISO: Set a photo's ISO. Increasing the ISO can reduce blurring caused by dark conditions or movement. White balance: Adjust a photo's white balance. Adjust the white balance according to the brightness of the surroundings. Image adjustment: Adjust exposure compensation, saturation, contrast, and brightness. Gallery Viewing photos 1 On the home screen, touch Gallery. 2 You can then: Select the Photos tab and view photos in a timeline. Select the Photos tab, select Map and view photos grouped according to location. Select the Albums tab and view photos grouped by album. Playing a slideshow 1 On the home screen, touch Gallery. 44

When you don't need Internet access, disable mobile data to save battery power and reduce mobile data usage. Wi-Fi network Connecting to a Wi-Fi network 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 2 Touch Wi-Fi. 3 Turn on Wi-Fi. Your phone then scans for available Wi-Fi networks and lists them on the screen. 4 Select the Wi-Fi network to which you want to connect. If the network is open, you will connect to it directly. If the network is encrypted, enter the password when prompted, and then touch Connect. Connecting to a Wi-Fi network using WPS Wi-Fi protected setup (WPS) helps make it easier to connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network. Simply press the WPS button or enter the PIN to connect your phone to a Wi-Fi router that supports WPS. 1 On the home screen, touch Settings. 51

Then touch Save. It is recommended that you set the encryption mode to WPA2 PSK for better security. USB tethering You can share your phone's data connection with a computer using a USB cable.
