(and whatever else you would like to add). " (Adult Speaker 1) "I will ask, (name and title) for an invocation on this special occasion. " Page 4 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

Invocation (Adult Speaker 3)... (He/She will use his/her own words) (Adult Speaker 1) 3). "Thank you (name of Adult Speaker (Adult Speaker 1) Opening of Court of Honor "Scouting is no doubt one of the greatest organizations in the world to foster the highest ideals of citizenship. It is little wonder then that so many of our nation's greatest leaders had some of their earliest leadership experiences in Scouting. Now Scouting is changing, but one thing remains constant, and that is that the total development from boyhood to manhood depends upon physical, mental, and moral growth expressed in the Scout Oath. The skills are so demanding and the challenges are so great that it is not surprising to learn that only about two percent of all boys in Scouting achieve the rank of Eagle Scout each year. When most boys enter Scouting, they soon picture themselves as some day becoming Eagle Scouts. But as you know, there are just too many activities and interests clamoring for their attention and the flames that were burning aspirations, dim to ashes, flicker away and they stop short." "The Eagle is the highest recognition offered in Scouting. It is earned through the advancement program. The wearer of the Eagle award is the embodiment of Scouting's best efforts and beliefs. The presentation of the Eagle Scout Award is an important and notable matter. For the Eagle Candidate, it is the climax in his Scouting efforts and the goal for which he has worked hard for several years. The attainment of this award is made possible through the assistance of those with the candidate today - his Scoutmaster, Troop Leaders, fellow Scouts, parents, family, friends and members of the community." "I would like all Eagle Scouts present to please stand...(pause)... Thank you. " (Adult Speaker 1, this is your big chance to say what you want) "I would like to recognize an honored guest in the audience ( if any ) "I will now call forward, (title) of Troop 103 for the introduction of the Eagle Scout. " (Adult Speaker 4) Introduction of the Eagle Scout. Page 5 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

"It is my pleasure to present our Eagle Candidate, (Eagle Scout s Name), to this Court of Honor. Will the Honor Guards please escort (Eagle Scout s first name only) forward at this time." "I have been through a lot with you these past (# of years) years. I have watched you emerge from a young boy, just out of Webelos (or what is appropriate) into a young man who has worked diligently and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. " (Eagle Scout s first name only) has completed (#) merit badges, initiated and carried out an Eagle project (description of Eagle Project several sentences). He has demonstrated leadership as (list leadership positions here). (Eagle Scout s first name only) has been (Brownsea, etc) trained. He is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow (if he is). He is certified as (ie. Lifeguard BSA, etc...) and has received awards (ie. SFBAC 100 Nights Camping Award, etc...). His records have been reviewed at the Council level, at an Eagle Board of Review held in (month), and at the National Council of Boy Scouts of America. He has demonstrated consistent Scout Spirit. Having done so, he has fulfilled the requirements for Eagle Scout." (Adult Speaker 1) "I would like to introduce, our (Scoutmaster or Asst Scoutmaster) of Troop 103, to start the formal proceeding." (Adult Speaker 5) Rededication " (Eagle Scout s first name only), it is now my honor to start the formal proceedings. I will ask you now to rededicate yourself to the principles of Boy Scouting." (Selected Scout walks on stage, takes the gold candle and stands behind the table) (Eagle Scout walks over to the podium and stands close by Adult Speaker 5) "When a boy becomes a Boy Scout, there is something within him that we call the Spirit of Scouting. (Eagle Scout s first name only), the single lighted candle before you, represents that spirit. Because the Spirit of Scouting embraces the principles of the Scout Oath and Law, it becomes a shining beacon of inspiration. Alone, this light may seem feeble, but when multiplied by the more than three and a half million boys in Scouting around the world, it is powerful. After a boy enters Scouting, the Scout Law that he promises to obey, begins to guide his Page 6 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

life. One by one, using the flame from the spirit of Scouting, we will light the symbols for each point of the Scout Law. There are twelve points; each is an important foundation in the building of strong character. Please hold up the Scout Sign and join me in repeating the Scout Law. " (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Trustworthy" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is part of his code of conduct. People can depend on him." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Loyal" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout is true to his family, Scout leaders, friends, school, and nation." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Helpful" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) " A Scout is concerned about other people. He does things willingly for others without pay or reward." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Friendly" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) " A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts. He seeks to understand others. He respects those with ideas and customs other than his own." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Courteous" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position. He knows good manners make it easier for people to get along." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Kind" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) " A Scout understands there is strength in being gentle. He treats others as he wants to be treated. He does not hurt or kill harmless things without reason." Page 7 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

(Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Obedient" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout follows the rules of his family, school, and troop. He obeys the laws of his community and country. If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an orderly manner rather than disobey them." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Cheerful" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout looks for the bright side of things. He cheerfully does tasks that come his way. He tries to make others happy." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Thrifty" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout works to pay his way and to help others. He saves for unforeseen needs. He protects and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Brave" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout can face danger even if he is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at or threaten him." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Clean" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout keeps his body and mind fit and clean. He goes around with those who believe in living by these same ideals. He keeps his home and community clean." (Adult Speaker 5 and Eagle Scout) "A Scout is Reverent" (Selected Scout lights a white candle) "A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others." (Adult Speaker 5) Page 8 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

"You see before you three candles, each symbolizing a part of the Scout Oath." "The center candle represents your duty to God and Country, and to obey the Scout Law." (Selected Scout lights center candle - red) "Service is the key of the second part of our Oath, and exacts a solemn promise: To help other people at all times." (Selected Scout lights one side candle - blue) "Character is the third part of our Oath, and is bound up in a pledge; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. (Selected Scout lights second side candle - blue)" "Will the honor guard(s) please escort (Eagle Scout s first name only) to the beginning of the Trail to Eagle." (2 Eagle Escorts list names escort (Eagle Scout s first name only) to the Scout symbol and follow him to each rank but stop at the Life rank if the Escorts are only Life Rank. (Eagle Scout s first name only) will advance to the Eagle rank alone). "I would now like to call forward, (ttile), as the Voice of the Eagle." (Adult Speaker 7) Voice of the Eagle [This is normally led by the Scoutmaster or Asst. Scoutmaster and requires seven Scouts holding posters of the ranks from Scout to Eagle.] "This is the Voice of the Eagle, the Eagle whose heights you have struggled hard to reach. We remember well when you first came to the base of the cliff, and you looked up with ambition and determination." "Look back for a moment. Look down the cliff you have climbed. Look at the experiences you have encountered in your ascent. These experiences should not be forgotten. You should profit by making sure the adverse ones do not occur again. Experience is a valuable teacher if you will heed its lessons." "All the while you were on the trail, we watched you study and we saw you learn by doing. First, you were only a Scout." Scout name [A Scout steps out holding poster of the Scout badge and reads this message taped to the back:] "I am the Scout Rank. My badge represents the international brotherhood of Scouting which I have joined." Page 9 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

"Do you remember when you took your first step upon the trail to become an Eagle? With that first step, you began to grow physically, mentally, and morally. You started living the Scout Oath and Law. All the while you were on the trail, we watched you study and we saw you learn by doing. Soon you had attained the Tenderfoot Rank." Tenderfoot name [Tenderfoot steps out holding poster of the Tenderfoot badge and reads:] "I am the Tenderfoot Rank. My three points stand for the three points of the Scout Oath: Duty to God and to country, duty to other people, and duty to yourself. You will find me on the mariner's compass, forever pointing the way to the north star and a safe journey in life. On my face are two stars representing truth and knowledge. The shield is an emblem of a nation molded together in justice, and an eagle guards the freedom of my land." "Once inspired by the Spirit of Scouting, you will not stay a Tenderfoot for long. Putting a few simple achievements behind you, you quickly climb to the rank of Second Class Scout. To reach the rank of Second Class, a Scout learns to work with members of his patrol and begins to develop patrol spirit." 2 nd Class name [Second Class Scout steps out and joins Tenderfoot Scout and reads:] "I am the Second Class Rank. The ends of my scroll are turned up in the willing smile of a Scout. On my face is the motto, "Be Prepared". Suspended from me is the knot, tied to remind you of the slogan of the Boy Scouts of America, "Do a good turn daily." "Some, like you, were stopping to catch their breath before continuing along the trail. You began to study more, you worked harder, and almost before you knew it, you topped the first summit on the Trail to Eagle when you received the First Class Badge. When a Scout reaches the rank of First Class in Troop 103, he knows his outdoor skills in camping, cooking, hiking and in being prepared." 1 st Class name [First Class Scout steps out and takes his place:] "I am the First Class Rank. I was a Tenderfoot and laid my course by the stars of truth and knowledge, and girded myself with the righteousness of justice and freedom. I added a smile that I might be a friend to all and bound myself together with the knot of duty to others." "There you found a tempting green meadow by a crystal-clear stream bathed in the sun. Here you were tempted to remain. You could have remained there to live the First Class glory, but your ambition stirred you on. We remember your advancement to Star Scout. The Star Scout works with younger Scouts in the troop, passing along the knowledge he has gained." Page 10 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

Star name [Star Scout steps out and takes his place:] "I am the Star Rank. Now that I can stand alone, I have the right to improve on my own. To me goes the honor of choosing my field. Before me lies a horizon of endless opportunities." "The trail from First Class to Star rank was not as difficult as it had seemed. This spurred you on, and again you climbed farther. The trail was steeper and less worn. Fewer Scouts seemed to be headed in your direction. You looked down and saw the crowds below you. You looked up and saw a few above you and, with the same determination with which you started your climb, you continued up the trail. Gaining the next summit was not easy. Through leadership, service and hard work you conquered the first of the three great peaks along the Eagle Trail. Soon, you earned the badge of Life rank." Life name [Life Scout steps out and takes his place:] "I am the Life Rank. I have shown the whole world that scouting is in my heart. I have mastered the knowledge of subjects that will benefit my country and my fellow man. I am ready to reach for my wings to fly." "While the Life Scout is a much-coveted position and deserves much credit, the Eagle Trail does not stop there. It still leads on to the summit. Its pathway narrows and steepens considerably as it winds its way along the narrow ledges of personal achievement and mountain pastures of troop accomplishment. Mile by mile, the trail becomes more trying. Many challenges must be conquered in these last miles. Before the highest summit along the Eagle Trail can be completed, additional merit badges must be earned. Your leadership and service to others were tested through your Eagle Service Project. Only those with the greatest amount of persistence and courage can the Scout gain the thrill of victory. You were on your way to Eagle." Eagle name [Eagle Scout steps out and takes his place:] "I AM THE EAGLE RANK... Since the beginning of time, man has used me and my brothers as a symbol of Royalty, Power, Victory and Valor. My strength and courage has inspired men throughout the ages." "I AM THE EAGLE... I am prepared to stand for the virtues of freedom, strength and pride." "I AM THE EAGLE... I am prepared to serve my God, my Country and my Fellow Man." Page 11 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

"I AM THE EAGLE... I am prepared to stand for Honesty, Truth and Integrity." "I AM THE EAGLE... I am prepared to lead others and to accomplish set tasks to the best of my ability." "I AM THE EAGLE... I am prepared to cross all lines of race, creed and nationality." "I AM THE EAGLE... I am prepared to be self reliant and resourceful." "I AM THE EAGLE... I AM PREPARED." "Yes, we have watched your character unfold and become more mature. We have seen your understanding of citizenship expand. We have watched your mind develop and your wisdom increase. We have watched your leadership ability grow into a valuable asset. We have seen all of these things in you, and now that you are on the threshold of your goal, we welcome you, for you have done your climbing in a true Scout-like manner." (Adult Speaker 1 or 7)??? "I would now like to ask to come forward for the Eagle Challenge." "Honor Guards, please be seated." ( (Eagle Scout s first name only) walk towards podium.) (Adult Speaker 8 must be an Eagle Scout) The Eagle Challenge "When the Eagle Scout badge was designed in 1912, a small silver eagle was suspended from a tricolor ribbon of red, white and blue. It remains so today." "The Eagle rank represents proficiency in all Scouting skills. It represents a great deal of teamwork as a member and leader of a troop. You demonstrated Scout Spirit by living the Scout Oath and Law. It also represents years of hard work, strength of character, and more importantly, it is an indication of what lies in this Scout's future. The Eagle rank testifies that a Scout has an understanding of his community and his nation, and a willingness to become involved. It is also fitting at this time, to explain that not only does this badge signify his hard work, it also signifies certain obligations on his part." "The first obligation of an Eagle Scout is to live with HONOR. The Eagle's honor is sacred. Honor is the foundation of character. An Eagle Scout lives Page 12 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

honorably, not only for himself, but because of the example he sets for other Scouts. Living honorably reflects upon his home, his church, his school, his friends, and upon himself. May the white of your badge remind you always to live with honor." "The second obligation of an Eagle Scout is LOYALTY. Without loyalty, character lacks direction. An Eagle is loyal to his ideals. Be true to yourself just as you are true to others. May the blue of your badge always inspire your loyalty." "The third obligation of an Eagle Scout is COURAGE. Courage gives character force and strength. To a Scout, bravery means not only the courage to face physical danger, but the determination to stand up for his rights. With trust in God and faith in his fellow man, the Eagle Scout faces each day undaunted and seeks his share of the world s work. May the red of your badge remind you always of courage." "The fourth obligation of an Eagle Scout is SERVICE TO OTHERS. For a leader is above all, a servant. The practice of the daily Good Turn takes on new meaning and leads the Eagle to a lifetime of service. His code of conduct is based upon the belief that real leadership must be founded upon service. May the motto "Be Prepared" always remind you to put forth your best effort. Just as it always has, the scroll on the badge represents service. Your final obligation as an Eagle Scout is to have VISION. As a leader, you must now blaze your own trail. Many people will follow you; only with vision will you lead them in the right direction. Let the silver eagle hanging from your badge remind you of vision. These then are your obligations as an Eagle Scout: honor, loyalty, courage, service and vision. By meeting these obligations, you can lead your troop, your community and your nation toward a better tomorrow. (Eagle Scout s first name only), are you prepared to accept the obligations as well as the honor of the badge of Eagle Scout?" (Eagle Scout s first name only): "Yes, I am". (Adult Speaker 8) When we began our program this afternoon, you were living the Scout Oath. Now, you will repeat and live an additional oath, the Eagle Scout Promise. Though the words you say are similar to those you've said so many times before, today they will mean more to you than ever. Page 13 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

"I'd like all Eagle Scouts in the audience to please join (Eagle Scout s first name only) behind the table and rededicate themselves by repeating the Eagle Scout Oath with (Eagle Scout s first name only)." "Please repeat after me the Oath of the Eagle." (All Eagle Scouts hold up Scout Signs) "I reaffirm my allegiance to the three promises of the Scout Oath. I thoughtfully recognize and take upon myself the obligations and responsibilities of an Eagle Scout. On my honor I will do my best to make my training and example, my rank and my influence count strongly for better Scouting and for better citizenship in my Troop in my community and in my contacts with other people. To this I pledge my sacred honor." "By the authority vested in me by the National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts of America, it is my privilege and pleasure to pronounce you an Eagle Scout. May the oath you have taken remain true in your heart." (Other Eagles return to their seats) "I would ask that the honor guards escort Mr. and Mrs. (parents of Eagle Scout) forward at this time." (Adult Speaker 8) " (Adult Speaker 9), will you please present the Eagle award? (Adult Speaker 9) Presentation of Eagle Award " (Eagle Scout s first name only), I am very proud that you made the effort to complete the rank of Eagle Scout. It is something that you can always look at as one of the accomplishments of your lifetime. It is my pleasure to recognize you and be a part of this ceremony" (Adult Speaker 6, you may add whatever else you want). Page 14 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

"Your parents have been a constant source of support for the years you have spent on your Trail to Eagle. They are very proud of you, as are all of us in Troop 103. Your mother has given you love, encouragement and support for many years, not only in Scouting, but also in your many other activities. It is with great pleasure that I ask her to pin the Eagle ribbon on your uniform." (Adult Speaker 9) "In recognition of fatherly advice and guidance along the trail to Eagle, I ask Mr. (Eagle Scout s Father), that you share with me the honor of presenting (Eagle Scout s first name only) with his Eagle neckerchief and slide." (Adult Speaker 9 removes red neckerchief and slide) (Eagle Scout Father puts on Eagle neckerchief and slide) Presenter offers Scout handshake to Eagle Scout (left hands) and to his father (Father will be in Scout uniform). "No one will ever know the unnumbered acts of self-sacrifice and helpfulness from the mother of this Eagle Scout which have led us to this day. As the symbol of what his mother has made possible, the court will now ask (Eagle Scout s first name only) to present his mother with a miniature Eagle pin." "The Eagle award differs from the lower ranks in that there is recognition for dads as well. (Eagle Scout s first name only), will you now present to your dad the tie tack for him to wear and show pride in your accomplishments." "Congratulations, Eagle Scout (Eagle Scout s full name)." (Another Eagle Scout s Mother Adult Speaker 10) Legend of the Rose (Adult Speaker 9) "Honor Guards will you please escort Mr. & Mrs. (Eagle Scout s parents to their seats)." ( s parents are escorted back to their seats by the Honor Guards) (Adult Speaker 9) (If appropriate... ) "In case you are not aware of it, there are awards to be earned after the Eagle. This afternoon, I am also pleased to present (Eagle Page 15 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

Scout s first name only) with the bronze palm which he has earned by completing additional merit badges, participating fully in the Troop's activities and continuing to develop his leadership skills. (Adult Speaker 9) "Would (Adult Speaker 11 usually Advancement Chair) please step forward to do the special recognitions?" (Adult Speaker 11 Advancement Chair) "I now ask (visiting Dignitary) to come forward to recognize our newest Eagle Scout." "I now ask the (visiting Dignitary) to come forward." Other Recognition (Adult Speaker 11 Advancement Chair) Presentation of letters and certificates sent by dignitaries not present. (Adult Speaker 1) "I would now like to call, Eagle Scout (Adult Speaker 12), who will give the Eagle Challenge." (Eagle Scout s first name only) steps down in front of podium & faces Adult / Scout Speaker 11) (Adult / Scout Speaker 12 must be Eagle Scout) The Eagle Charge " (Eagle Scout s first name only), I have the honor of giving you the Eagle Challenge on the occasion of your elevation to the highest rank in Scouting. The Boy Scouts of all nations constitute one of the most meaningful and significant movements in the world s history. You have been judged by the Boy Scouts of America as being worthy of this honor. All who know you rejoice in your achievement. Your position, as you well know, is one of honor and responsibility. You are a marked man. As an Eagle Scout, you assumed a solemn obligation to do your duty to God, to country, to your fellow Scouts, and to all mankind. This is a great undertaking. As you live up to your obligations, you bring honor to yourself and to your brother Scouts. Page 16 of 17 Revised 10/4/03

America has many good things to give you and your children after you; but these good things depend for the most part on the quality of her citizens. Our Country has had a great past. You can help make the future even greater. I charge you to undertake your citizenship with solemn dedication. Be a leader, but lead only towards the best. Lift up every task you do and every office you hold to the highest level of service to God and your fellow man. So live and serve that those who know you will be inspired to finer living. I challenge you to be among those who dedicate their skills and ability to the common good. Build America on the solid foundation of clean living, honest work, unselfish citizenship and reverence for God; and whatever others do, you will leave behind your record of which every other Scout may be justly proud. Your conduct along the trail has been excellent. But one more thing is important - your future. As an Eagle Scout, you become a guide to other Scouts. You become an example in your community. Remember that your actions are now a little more conspicuous and people will expect more out of you. To falter in your responsibility would reflect not only on you, but on your fellow Eagles and all of Scouting." (Adult / Scout Speaker 12) "I now call forward our Eagle Scout for his Eagle Response." ( Eagle Scout s first name only:... Say something very nice!! Perhaps the Eagle Scout Prayer? (Adult Speaker 1) "Will (Adult Speaker 3) please come forward and give his Benediction." (Adult Speaker 3) Benediction (He will use his own words) (Adult Speaker 1) Closing "We hope this ceremony has inspired other Scouts to reach this honorable rank. We are anxious to see many more Eagles pass through our troop. I now declare this Eagle Court of Honor closed. I invite everyone present to congratulate (Eagle Scout s first and last name), Scouting's newest Eagle Scout and his parents. Please join us for refreshments." Page 17 of 17 Revised 10/4/03
