1 New in OMEGAMON XE n z/os v5.3.0 Interim Feature 2 The use f flash technlgy in z/os is becming mre prevalent. It is used t enhance the speed f paging activity. z/os refers t this as Strage Class Memry. There are a number f unique metrics that can be prvided fr hw well strage class memry is behaving in yur envirnment. The interim feature has als added a few new metrics fr the 4Hr Rlling Average supprt. With OMEGAMON XE n z/os v5.3.0 Interim Feature 2 yu will be able t see these metrics in bth the OMEGAMON 3270 classic interface and in the Enhanced 3270 User Interface. Yu will als be able t create situatins and cllect histry fr these attributes in the TEP. What's New Bth the OMEGAMON fr z/os (classic interface) and the Enhanced 3270 User Interface will have supprt added t help shw hw z/os is managing t explit Strage Class Memry. OMEGAMON fr z/os supprt fr Strage Class Memry (SCM) is in the fllwing cmmands MSCM Majr cmmand presents metrics abut SCM Allcated Blck, Backed Pages, and Bad 4K Blcks SCMR Minr cmmand presents, LPAR wide and by address space, rates abut SCM pages in and ut per secnd in bth 4K and 1 Megabyte sizes. SCMC Minr cmmand presents the cunts fr the displayed interval fr the same attributes as mentined fr SCMR. SCMT Minr cmmand presents the cunts since IPL fr the same attributes as mentined fr SCMR. INT Minr cmmand allws yu t set r reset the measurement interval. OMEGAMON fr z/os supprt fr 4Hr Rlling Average MSUs is in the fllwing cmmand SYS / XRMSU - XRMSU is the minr cmmand that has new values. Tw new values are in the header segment. They are Avg. Grup Capacity% and Avg. Used MSUs/Hur. There are als 2 new attributes in the peridic rws. They are LPAR Grup Used MSU/H and LPAR Grup % Used. Only the mst recent cmpleted 5-minute interval values are used fr current values in the Enhanced 3270 User Interface. Enhanced 3270 User Interface presents Strage Class Memry and 4Hr Rlling Average infrmatin in these wrkspaces. System Paging and Page Dataset Activity has a new subpanel that shws 22 new attributes fr verall flash usage. The new subpanel is labeled Flash Summary Activity. The first attribute,

2 Measurement Interval, als allws yu t navigate t the Flash Memry Activity Details wrkspace. The Flash Memry Activity Details wrkspace shws bth LPAR level statistics and address space level statistics fr use f flash services. The statistics will shw things like 4K page write and reads per secnd as well as 1 megabyte paging activity. The 4Hr Rlling Average Statistics wrkspace has 4 new attributes in it the LPAR Grup subpanel. They shw current and average used grup MSUs and percent used. Fr cmpleteness it is als nw shwing the current unused grup MSUs. What is Strage Class Memry? Strage Class Memry (SCM) is nt new. It has been with us since the intrductin f the IBM zec12 prcessr. It is a means t use flash strage as anther paging file type. SCM is very fast cmpared t DASD based paging but it is still cnsiderably mre expensive per megabyte than DASD based paging. Fr this reasn it is gd practice t see that SCM pages are being used fr the mst imprtant wrklads and the nes ding the mst page ins. OMEGAMON fr z/os (classic interface) supprt fr Strage Class Memry One new majr cmmand is intrduced t present new attributes. It has 3 minr cmmands that present values as rates, cunts fr the interval, and cunts since IPL. There is als a new minr that allws ne t change the cllectin interval time fr these cmmands. The new MSCM majr cmmand shws LPAR Infrmatin LPAR Name Measurement Interval - In secnds t 3 decimal places I/O Service Times fr SCM - Lwest recent service time fr SCM (Strage Class Memry) requests, in micrsecnds, displayed as secnds t 6 decimal places. I/O Service Times fr Page Datasets - Lwest recent service time fr Lcal Paging Dataset requests, in micrsecnds, displayed as secnds t 6 decimal places. SCM + Page Percent Used - Cmbined SCM and Lcal Page Dataset percentage utilized, t 2 decimal places. Active I/O Threshld - is the threshld at which the paging algrithms start cnsidering whether pages shuld be written t DASD instead f SCM because f SCM utilizatin and SCM I/O service times. Bad 4K Blcks - Number f SCM 4K blcks that are "in errr" and cannt be used. Enhanced 3270 User Interface supprt fr Strage Class Memry The existing System Paging and Page Dataset Activity wrkspace has been enhanced t present the LPAR level infrmatin fr flash usage. The same attribute definitins seen fr the MSCM cmmand and the LPAR level f the SCMR minr apply. There is als a Flash Memry Activity Details wrkspace that can be reached by ding a ht key navigatin frm the Measurement Interval attribute. System Paging and Page Dataset Activity wrkspace enhancement The secnd sub view titled Flash Summary Activity has been added t this wrkspace

Flash Memry Activity Details wrkspace This is a new wrkspace which presents LPAR and address space detail usage f flash memry The attribute used here are the same fund in the SCMR minr cmmand. 4Hr Rlling Average enhancement 4Hr Rlling Average supprt has been in the OMEGAMON XE fr z/os prduct fr sme time. With this enhancement 4 new attributes are being added that give a better LPAR level view. The added attributes are Average Used Grup MSUs - If this LPAR is a member f an LPAR Grup this value represents the average number f MSUs that were cnsumed by the LPAR Grup ver the Rlling Average 4- hur perid. If the LPAR is nt in an LPAR Grup this value will be displayed as "Unavailable". Average Percent Grup Capacity - Percentage, t 1 decimal place, f the percentage f the LPAR Grup Limit cnsumed ver the 4-Hur Rlling Average perid. If the LPAR is nt in an LPAR Grup this value will be displayed as "Unavailable". Used Grup MSUs/Hur - If this LPAR is a member f an LPAR Grup this value represents the number f MSUs that were cnsumed by the LPAR Grup ver the time perid. If the LPAR is nt in an LPAR Grup this value will be displayed as "Unavailable".
