1 Page 1 of PURPOSE AGE CONTROL OF SYNTHETIC RUBBER PARTS To establish a uniform system for the age control of synthetic rubber items used for Eaton Euclid Corporation applications. 2.0 SCOPE This document establishes shelf life controls and marking requirements for synthetic rubber items used in Eaton Euclid applications. 3.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS MIL-STD-1523 MIL-HDBK-695 Form Z-1172 Form Z-1177 Form Z-1178 Age Controls of Age-Sensitive Elastomeric Materials (for Aerospace Applications) Rubber Products: Recommended (Reference) Control Required" Sticker Control Required" Sticker No Control Required" Sticker Finished Parts Requisition (WDS Form) 4.0 DEFINITIONS 4.1 Cure Date. The date when the mixture containing the high molecular weight polymer, the cross linking agent, and additives is chemically reacted, usually at an elevated temperature, to produce a cured bulk elastomeric product, or is cured and molded simultaneously to produce an elastomeric end item The maximum allowable period of time from cure date to the date the elastomeric product is used as a component part in subassemblies or assemblies. During its shelf life, the stored elastomeric product is expected to retain its characteristics as originally specified. 5.0 QUALITY ELEMENTS 5.1 Cure Date Marking (Supplier Responsibility). Suppliers of all synthetic rubber products and assemblies containing synthetic rubber materials shall identify the cure date. Generally it will involve marking the part itself, individual packages, and/or on the accompanying documentation. When cure date identification is required by VQR, the cure date shall be designated by quarter and year. The year shall be divided into quarters as follows: 1st Quarter - January, February, March 2nd Quarter - April, May, June 3rd Quarter - July, August, September 4th Quarter - October, November, December Date of Issue 11/28/90 Revision - W Changes indicated by ø 05/05/14 Prepared by Approved by signature on file D.Miller signature on file G.Lallathin

2 Page 2 of 7 For example, the cure date of a rubber part that was cured in January, 2014 would be marked 1Q14. April, 2014 would be marked 2Q Expiration Marking (Receiving Inspection Responsibility). Upon receipt of synthetic rubber parts or assemblies containing synthetic rubber, Receiving Inspection shall establish a shelf life expiration date (discard date) using two pieces of data: (l) the cure date provided by the supplier, and (2) the shelf life for the particular part number in question. Note that synthetic rubber items manufactured during any given quarter are not considered one quarter old until the end of the succeeding quarter. For example, a product cured during January, February, or March of any year will not be considered one quarter old until July l of that same year. That same item is not considered one year old until April l of the following year. φ Example of shelf life expiration date calculations are as follows: Date Storage Format Cure Date (From Appendix I) Expiration Date Lot YYMM 1Q14 10 Years Q14 3 Years Q14 8 Years Q14 5 Years Receiving Inspection: The Receiving Inspector shall verify that the product has at least 25% useful shelf life remaining at time of vendor shipment, then complete the red sticker titled " Control Required" (Form Z-1172 or Z-1177) for each lot to identify the cure date and the shelf life expiration date for subsequent storage and use. Information on Form Z-1172 or Z-1177 shall include, Purchase Order and Part Name, Supplier, Cure Date, and Expiration Date ("Discard Date"). One copy of a completed Form Z-1172 or Z-1177 shall be attached to each container going to stock. Certified Suppliers: The Designated Supplier Quality Representative (DSQR) is responsible for the proper completion and securing of appropriate "" labels when furnishing synthetic rubber products to Argo-Tech Corp. Many part numbers listed in Appendix I have no shelf specified. These are components made of materials identified in MIL-HDBK-695 as having a 20 yr. shelf life or more. These products are regarded as possessing an unlimited shelf life and have no expiration date. For these items, the receiving inspector and/or designated personnel shall complete the green sticker titled "No control Required" (Form Z-1178) for each container in each lot to be stocked.

3 Page 3 of 7 Products received from suppliers which consist of synthetic rubber components such as filters, relief valve assemblies, seals, etc. containing 2 or more types of synthetic rubber, must exhibit the shelf life of that which has the least amount of shelf life remaining on the appropriate label. 5.3 Control of Expiration Date For Parts In Storage. Production Control personnel shall audit all synthetic rubber items identified with a red " Control Req'd" sticker at the end of every calendar quarter (i.e., on March 31, June 30, Sept. 30, and Dec. 31). Items which have reached their expiration date shall be removed with WDS form FC9232 INV-7 Miscellaneous Issue From Stock and moved to the Expired Material Cabinet.. When issuing rubber products to Assembly or to the Packaging Area for shipment as spares, Stock Crib personnel shall ensure that each individual envelope, box, or container is identified with a red or green sticker (Forms Z-1172, Z-1177 or Z-1178 respectively) identifying, Part Name, P.O., Supplier Cure Date, and Discard Date (red sticker only). If parts are sent to Assembly or Packaging in the same containers they were originally stocked in, no additional identification will be required. However, if Stock Crib personnel remove parts from their original containers and repackage them in other containers, it will be necessary to apply red or green stickers to the new containers and transfer all information on the original stickers to the new stickers. 5.4 Control of Expiration Dates in Assembly (Assembly Personnel Responsibility). Assembly personnel are responsible for ensuring that synthetic rubber parts remain identified with a red or green sticker at all times. This can be accomplished either by leaving the parts in the containers as received from the stock crib, or if parts are placed loose in a bin, by ensuring that the original sticker is removed from the container and placed with the parts. Parts from two or more containers with different cure dates and/or different discard dates shall not be intermixed. Synthetic rubber parts must be assembled prior to their discard date. Parts which reach their discard date prior to assembly shall be removed with a WDS form FC 9232 INV-7 Miscellaneous Issue From Stock and moved to the Expired Material Cabinet. 5.5 Spare Parts Shipments (Packaging Responsibility). Synthetic rubber parts received in the Packaging Area shall be identified with either red or green shelf life stickers. Packaging personnel shall ensure that no parts with red stickers have exceeded their discard date. Marking requirements for shipping spare synthetic rubber parts shall be as specified on the Plan Sheet. However, for all parts identified with red stickers, regardless of whether specified on the Plan Sheet, the cure date shall be typed on the shipping label. The discard date (or Expiration Date) shall not be typed on the shipping label unless specifically called for on the Plan Sheet. Other identification, such as part no., rev. letter, National Stock Number (NSN), number of pieces, etc. shall be as specified on the Plan Sheet. 5.6 Conflicts (Quality Responsibility). When the requirements of this procedure conflict with the contractual requirements of a specific customer purchase order, the specific requirements take precedence. In this case, Quality is responsible for communicating the specific customer requirements to the affected departments by whatever means are appropriate to the situation.

4 Page 4 of 7 φ SHELF LIFE FOR SYNTHETIC RUBBER PARTS The following is a listing, by part number, of the maximum shelf life allowed for synthetic rubber products or parts containing synthetic rubber components. Receiving Inspection shall calculate the shelf life expiration date (if applicable) for such parts, using the cure date identified on the parts or on the accompanying documents, and the shelf life listed below. Note that many components listed have no shelf life indicated. According to MIL-HDBK-695 these components are made of materials which have an assigned shelf life of 20 years or more. These parts have an unlimited shelf life and therefore have no shelf life expiration date. These parts will be identified with a "No Shelf Life Required" label (Form Z-1178). Any rubber parts received in Receiving Inspection which are not listed below shall be brought to the attention of Quality for definition of requirements
