3 Overview The Getting Ready for the 2016 Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) packet is an instructional tool compiled to help teachers reinforce previously taught mathematics concepts, using items that also reflect the content assessed on the Florida State Assessment (FSA) as per the Mathematics Item Specifications. Daily usage as Bell Ringers will provide opportunities for students to continue to familiarize themselves with the items types they will encounter on the FSA. The Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA is compiled directly from the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt s (HMH) Getting Ready for PARCC resource. The items on the documents have been determined to be aligned to Mathematics Florida Standards (MAFS); thus, if the indicated standard for the item says, for example, MACC.3.OA.1.1, the item was accepted as aligned to MAFS.3.OA.1.1. If an item was determined to not be aligned to MAFS, it was deleted from the packet. Note, the 2016 FSA may include gridded response questions. Thus, some modifications were made in the item types of some questions in order to provide practice on gridding responses. Components The Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA consists of directions on writing an answer in a response grid, a set of response grids relevant to the grade level for classroom practice, and set questions to be used as bell ringers. Each packet consists of eight pages: the first six consisting of 5 8 items in each and the last two pages include performance tasks items with space for writing a response. The Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA affords added practice and reinforcement of concepts that are revisited and concepts that are being taught. The cover page has hyperlinks to other educator resources pertaining to the FSA. Purpose The Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA is intended to serve as supplemental material, not to replace any part of the current grade-level instruction. Teachers should take notice of student responses as information to support instructional planning in preparation for the 2016 FSA during bell ringer time, differentiated instruction, or time outside of the 60-minutue instructional block for remediation/intervention. The Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA is to be used as a practice for the FSA, not as an assignment of an achievement score. Procedure Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA should be used each day of the week; it is a mixed review of all standards. Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA is recommended to be used during the transition time into the mathematics instructional block; preferably during the first five minutes of class. During such time, students answer the questions in 3 minutes or less and the teacher briefly reviews responses; number of questions is determined by the teacher. Teachers reserve the right to not use the day s Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA as bell ringers. Other possible options for use are extra home learning practice and additional standards practices (selecting same standards items from different pages). Effort grades may be assigned. Teachers should not assign a grade to Getting Ready for the 2016 FSA since they do not represent the students understanding of the concept(s) of the day s lesson. Answer Key is provided at the end of the packet. This document can only be reproduced for classroom use in a M-DCPS school as the documents are compiled from the district adopted textbook HMH GO Math! Florida.

17 Non-Discrimination Policy The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida adheres to a policy of nondiscrimination in employment and educational programs/activities and strives affirmatively to provide equal opportunity for all as required by: Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended - prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, or national origin. Title IX of the Education Amendments of prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender. Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) as amended - prohibits discrimination on the basis of age with respect to individuals who are at least 40. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 as amended - prohibits gender discrimination in payment of wages to women and men performing substantially equal work in the same establishment. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of prohibits discrimination against the disabled. Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) - prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment, public service, public accommodations and telecommunications. The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) - requires covered employers to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to "eligible" employees for certain family and medical reasons. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. Florida Educational Equity Act (FEEA) - prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, gender, national origin, marital status, or handicap against a student or employee. Florida Civil Rights Act of secures for all individuals within the state freedom from discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status. Title II of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) - Prohibits discrimination against employees or applicants because of genetic information. Veterans are provided re-employment rights in accordance with P.L (Federal Law) and Section (Florida Statutes), which stipulate categorical preferences for employment. In Addition: School Board Policies 1362, 3362, 4362, and Prohibit harassment and/or discrimination against students, employees, or applicants on the basis of sex, race, color, ethnic or national origin, religion, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender, gender identification, social and family background, linguistic preference, pregnancy, and any other legally prohibited basis. Retaliation for engaging in a protected activity is also prohibited. Revised: (05-12)
