You have all the same issues: Hardware, Software, Network, Training, Expectations and Workflow/Design process changes. We encourage you to look at multiple sources for all aspects of your upgrade. In the world of AECO implementation services, You get what you pay for. The Revit Process As stated in the above paragraph, Network, Hardware, Software, Training, Workflow, Design process and Expectations have to be addressed before moving to Revit. Below is the breakdown. Before Starting Before you install Revit and start the training process, you will need to ensure that your Network and Hardware are up to the task of handling the new software. Network: Cat 5 will do, but CAT 6 preferred. Gigabit switches will save you precious work hours. Hardware: We highly recommend a complete review and analysis of your computer hardware. Upgrading your software without considering the hardware needs is like shooting yourself in the foot. There are technical specifications and information available for both Network and Hardware solutions. Software: After a dedicated sales person finds you the best price possible for the software, don t forget about the Training. Here is a little tidbit that no one else is telling you about: Take your software cost, double it! That will give you a good idea of the actual cost that you will incur when getting a person to use it. Always work with a consultant who has access to information that will help you be better prepared to face new industry trends and other key pieces of software that allow you to pull even more value from your BIM model. Training: You will learn the same basic tools with any course or instructor. The important things at this level of training are retention, understanding and moving past the basics. Immersion based training - using tools on a Real Project with a Real Time frame seems to be the most effective Basic Training. Instructors should have real world experience with the software and have been successfully training people and companies for years. Most in-house or off site training has a high Opportunity Cost. To get the most value out of Advanced and Expert training go with a webbased training plan. This drastically reduces the Opportunity Cost of Training: No Travel, No Phone Calls (VoIP), Less Downtime, RECORDED! This allows for more focused training modules learning and focusing on the appropriate software tools.

4 Page 4 / 8 Revit Training Outline Essentially, any new product will require three phases of training to fully understand and retain information and knowledge of the new product. The three step training process includes: 1. Basic / Immersion Based Training 2. Project Implementation 3. Expert Level such as: Project Mentoring / Just In Time / Web-Based Training. The expectation from Revit Training is that once you have learned the product it will continue to perform great from project to project. This is a misguided expectation! Just as there are office standards for documentation and workflow, there are a set of Revit Manager Standards. Standard creation is not limited to just the Manager, each user will need to set up User standards as well. Key components of training Basic Revit Training - 3 days Implementation - to be determined Revit Management Training - 16 hours Revit Families Training - 16 hours Basic Revit Training This is a first look at the uses, tools, and thought process behind Revit. Over the course of three days, you will be presented with all the tools Revit has to offer. It will not be limited to just tools. Revit needs to be approached with a different mindset as compared to other CAD programs, and this is what will be explored. Participants will learn the interface, the tools, and the workflow of Revit. This is a massive amount of information to absorb and at this level all you really do is retain the basics of Revit. This Basic training will get your users ready to attend more advanced training where Revit will be explored in more detail. You will go through the architectural modeling process in a real network environment. They should include a combination of lectures, click by click demos and hands-on instructor supported labs. They will say that the training is completely customized to suit your company s use of Revit. A few Instructors will actually work with you on a live project. This is a great thing; however, be aware that there are some tools and processes that are better explained and learned in a test project. Ideally this seems to be the best way of running an implementation. 1. Assess with you the direction you and your agency want to take with Revit. 2. If you run a day long Families training Class, there is not enough time to receive instruction and practice family creation.
