1 Good Citizenship Recognition Event Wednesday, February 3 rd 7:30pm Chester Co. Historic Courthouse Recognize your Scouts for their good citizenship. Community leaders will be on hand to present certificates and talk to the Scouts and families about citizenship in their community. This event is for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. Please refer to the rest of this informational packet for more about the event. Pre-registration is required. This year we will feature West Chester Mayor Comitta as the guest speaker. Elected in 2010, Carolyn Comitta is serving her second term as Mayor of the Borough of West Chester, PA. Prior to being elected as Mayor, she served as a West Chester Borough Council Member from She is a member of the Pennsylvania Municipal League's (PML) Board of Directors, the Legislative Committee, and the Coalition for Sustainable Communities, and serves as Chair of the PML University Community Network. 2 To: From: Re: Lenni Lenape Scoutmasters & Cubmasters Jake Segal, District Executive Ann Marie Moore, Good Citizenship Coordinator Good Citizenship Recognition Events Scout Citizenship Week, February 1-5, 2016 Good Citizen District Award Lenni Lenape s annual Good Citizenship Awards Ceremony will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Chester County Historic Courthouse. Please plan on arriving in Class A uniform by 7:15 p.m.; the ceremony will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Parking is conveniently available in the parking garage near the Courthouse. Friends and families are welcome and encouraged to attend with their Scouts. During the ceremony Webelos Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing Scouts will be recognized by receiving an official certificate representing their commitment to maintaining the standards of good citizenship. Webelos Scouts should be nominated by adult leaders based on overall citizenship and commitment to those ideals. Boy Scouts should be nominated by their patrol or adult leadership based on the same criteria of citizenship and service. Boy Scouts working on or have completed any of the Citizenship Merit badges are eligible for nomination; Webelos can be working towards or have completed a good turn to be nominated. The attached nomination form should be completed and returned to Council Service Center by January 19, This award can be received once as a Cub Scout and once as a Boy Scout. Shadowing Day Once again Shadowing Day, the opportunity to spend a day with a local public official, will be offered to any Boy Scout who has completed one of the Citizenship Merit Badges. The attached required forms to participate in the Shadowing Day are due at the Council Service Center by Tuesday, January 19, VERY IMPORTANT: Scouts will not be allowed to participate without parent s signature on the attached release form. Extra copies of these forms should be made to distribute to each participant within your troop. Every effort will be made to pair the Scout with the public official they request. Once confirmation is received from the public official they are assigned to, Council will inform the Scout. Please remind the Scout to attend their Shadowing Day. These public officials generously provide their time to work with the Scout. If there is a conflict due to day, time or illness the Scout must contact the official directly to make alternative arrangements. Please contact Ann Marie Moore at if you have any questions. 5 Parents Please Review and SIGN! Parents must sign below and contact the school about Shadowing Day Excuse Notes Please note that Scouts and the person they shadow must adhere to Youth Protection Guidelines at ALL times. The Scout and the person they are shadowing must always be in the presence of a third person. (i.e. Similar to when a Scout is being counseled on a merit badge the Scout and the Shadow could be in an office together with the door open in view of other people within the office building.) In the event the Scout must be transported by the public official(s) during the Shadowing Day, there must be a third person present. The third person can be an adult or a youth. This will keep the Scout and the public official in compliance with the Youth Protection Policies of the Boy Scouts of America. Parents should include a note stating that their son is permitted to be transported as long as there is a third person present.
