6 Music At festivals they played many instruments like harps, drums, flutes, symbols and many more. they also had dancers that would leap and twirl and the people in the audience would dance and move to the rhythm. Simply clapping or the tap of a foot could be important music for the Egyptians Music was heard in temples as part of worship the earliest evidence of music traced back to 3100 BC Back to Room 1
7 Instruments The Egyptians used string instruments, wind instruments and percussion instruments. Egyptian instruments were played at religious festivals The flute was created in the Old Kingdom The invented something called a lute in Egypt during the New Kingdom Back to Room 1
8 Dance Girls had to know how to dance because at festivals people picked among the servants to dance in front of the crowd Women who danced wore a kind of robe called a diaphanous robe or belt girdles made of beads Training for dancing women began when they were just a child The Egyptians danced at funerals in groups Girls danced at classes as part of education Back to Room 1
9 Games board games were great past time in pharaoh's lives and senet was the most popular. Egyptian kids played with toy soldiers and dolls but they also loved chasing of birds boys were much rougher than girls Back to Room 2
10 Sports girls were more into dolls wall boys were into outdoor sports like archery, wrestling, swimming and running Egyptians had no organized sports but they did do wrestling, boxing, rowing, swimming, running and archery. The Egyptian kids loved to play football (soccer) Big activities in Egypt were tug of war and they fenced with sticks Back to Room 2
11 Entertainment Boys were much rougher than girls Back to Room 2
12 Pottery In 7000 BC the use of pottery for ancient Egyptians had begun Egypt created pottery before pyramids They decorated the pottery with patterns Back to Room 3
13 Hieroglyphics Hieroglyphics began 5000 years ago After hieroglyphics they used a cursive writing called demotic Only scribes were allowed to write Back to Room 3
14 Paintings Ancient Egyptians drew things that were special to them They used art to show their daily lives and work Art was important to their culture Back to Room 3
