1 Summer Term nd July 2016 Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School The time has come for us to say goodbye to Year 6 as they prepare to leave us for the next stage in their lives, although we say goodbye to them, the children know that they are always welcome back to Sacred Heart and will always have a place here in our school family. We are proud that they leave Sacred Heart feeling extremely confident, responsible and competent members of society, ready for their Secondary School journey and that they have achieved their full potential in their academic, creative, personal, physical, moral and spiritual development. I would like to thank you for all your support that you have given the school whilst your child has been at Sacred Heart. The Year 6 children have been a very special part of my first term as Head teacher here at school. We are also sad to see Mrs O Rourke, Mrs Smith and Mrs Fernyhough leave our school family and thank them for the work that they have done in making our school such a successful and happy place to be. We wish them every success for the future. We are pleased to welcome back Mrs Kirkham and Mrs Mulvaney as they return to school after their maternity leave. We are delighted that they are back with us and we welcome their children Max and Zakk into our school family. Finally, thank you for welcoming me to Sacred Heart and for your support. I hope that you have lovely summer break and look forward to seeing you all in September. Mrs L Roach Head teacher Dear Lord, Please bless these children as they go out into the world to make it a better place. Gently guide them, lead them, show them Your way to success and happiness through service to others. Fill them with joy when they reach their goals. Strengthen them, as they deal with life's obstacles, and show them that every challenge is a path to character development. Give them the patience and persistence to pursue their ambitions. Most of all, give them caring hearts to look for ways to help the people they meet on their life's journey. Let each and every child be wrapped in the warmth of Your infinite love. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

The competition was tough but the teams played extremely well with 3 out of the 4 teams placed in the top 3 and our 4th team placed 6th. Well done everyone, we look forward to more children having the opportunity to take part next year. Under 10s B Team 2nd Place Under 10s A Team 1st Place Under 11s B Team 2nd Place English Chess Federation National Final A first for Sacred Heart when our Under 11 s A team qualified for the final. Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge 17 children qualified for the Giga Final earlier this month. An outstanding achievement as they reached the final 2,000 competitors out of 42,000 entrants. A special mention must go to Joshua Roque who has excelled by reaching the next stage of the competition the Tera Final. This takes place in August and we look forward to updating you on his achievement. It was also a special day for our 4 year 6 pupils as this was their last tournament as Sacred Heart pupils. We hope they continue to play and enjoy chess in the future. Well done everyone! EPSCA SEMI FINAL Another first for Sacred Heart when 3 teams reached the semi-finals this year. An amazing day of chess and fun was had by everyone with our teams being placed in the gold, silver and bronze sections. Congratulations! A little relaxation between rounds.
