1 Artwork Files Recommended Software: Expand prints directly from PDF/X-4:2008 Files. This type of file can be created with: InDesign CC: Accepted File Formats: PDF/X-4:2008 Adobe Illustrator CC: Accepted File Formats: PDF/X-4:2008 Photoshop CC: Acceptable Formats: PDF/X-4:2008 or TIFF What we need: A High Resolution print ready PDF/X-4:2008 file. Leave crop mark and artwork layers on only. Include all Pantone colors as SPOT colors in the swatches palette (not process). Except Pantone colors; all other artwork should be submitted in CMYK. Expand does not print in RGB. Convert all fonts to Outlines (fonts cannot be left active). Images should be built at DPI AT FINAL SIZE. Final artwork must have all images embedded; no linked files. Only include artwork that is to be printed. Please include PO and quantities in file name Example: PO X2.pdf If file(s) exceed 800MB, please flatten and/or reduce DPI and save as a Tiff. Rich Black Approved Color Builds Both fabrics and inkjet prints require this color build for rich black. Other color builds for black are accepted, but we find this build produces the best results with our equipment. Rich Black: C:100, M:100, Y: 80, K:100. If you do not apply this build to your art, we cannot guarantee a rich black. June

2 Layout & Content Layout using the template: DO NOT CHANGE TEMPLATE SIZES. Place your artwork into the artwork layer of the InDesign template. This is the last layer in the file so that you can still follow template directions. Most Templates are created at 100% Bring your artwork all the way to the green bleed line to fill the template including cassette bleed. Keep all critical elements within pink safe area. When creating a mural, create as one complete piece of artwork and avoid splitting text at panel seams. Please contact Expand for special mural templates Please be sure to delete all template layers except crop marks before saving your file for print Ordering a custom graphic: If your order requests us to print a custom sized graphic, there are several key points of information we will need you to provide in both your order as well as your artwork. For another brand of hardware you will need to provide a full size template for that hardware and/or the actual printed graphics for us to measure. We will print and trim the final graphics to the exact specifications listed in the order. We will not be held responsible if the graphics do not fit the hardware. You may submit a print ready PDF with crop marks at the correct trim size. Expand will finish the artwork according the the crop mark placement on the graphic. Please make sure there are no other template lines in the print ready PDF file. For your own custom sized print, that does not belong to another brand of hardware, we can create a template for you. 3 Color Matching Printed Proof For confirmation of color and image quality, We offer a Printed Proof. Each printed proof you order is printed on the substrate your final graphic will be printed on, and comes with a small print of your full graphic, measuring approx. 9 x11 and a 100% section of your graphic that measures approx. 8.5 x 11. Fig. 4.1 Pantone Colors Pantone provides a standardized system of color matching which enables us to determine what CMYK values are best to use with each media to achieve the specific color you are looking for in your graphic. This is referred to as a Commercial Color Match. If you would like us to provide a commercial color match, please use the actual Pantone color in your file. Do not alter the name of the Pantone color, it should remain intact so that we can provide an accurate match. 4 Image Resolution Optimal results are achieved with images printing between DPI at final print size. Images submitted that are larger than 150 DPI will create larger file sizes without a gain in quality when viewed at more than 36 away. See Fig. 1.1 & 1.2 We do not recommend that images be rez-ed up: doing so will only create artificial pixels and enlarge the file s size. As you design your graphic, view all images at 100% zoom level of their final size to verify that they will be acceptable before including them in your layout. Actual Image Dimensions: 40 x 72 DPI Image is very pixilated and is not the recommended DPI for Large Format Printing. Fig. 1.1 Actual Image Dimensions: 40 x 150 DPI Image is crisp and clear and is the recommended DPI for Large Format Printing. Fig. 1.2 Overall File Size The DPI of a graphic, along with its physical dimensions and number of layers can greatly affect the overall file size of your raster image. It is recommended that files which equal 1GB or greater, be reduced in file size prior to being submitted. To reduce your overall file size, please make sure that all images are between DPI, and that any unnecessary layers (those that do not contain PMS numbers) are flattened. It is highly recommended that PSB files be converted to an alternative file type prior to submission of your art. If files submitted measure 1GB or greater in size, or are submitted as PSB files, we will reduce the file size prior to preflighting your graphic. These files can also add a delay to the preflight time of your graphic which will in turn delay the sending of your eproof. June

6 Expand EventCarpet Design Specifications: EventCarpets are produced using a layering process of color and are typically matched to a standard color palette of over 150 colors unless a specific coated PMS color is requested. We will do our very best to match a PMS color while producing our mats however, color matching can be challenging. We recommend allowing for additional time, and ordering a printed proof when a precise color match is required. We recommend avoiding screens, tints, transparencies and gradients where color matching is critical to the design. PMS color matching available for $150 per color (price does NOT include printed proof). Contact your customer service representative for more information regarding Pantone color matching, or to order a printed proof. Turn around time for a printed proof is 5-7 business days. Allow 10 business days for general production. EventCarpet Quick Facts: Images should be 300 DPI at final size. Minimum Text Height: 1 Serif fonts & 1/2 Sans Serif fonts Special fonts and very thin letter forms may need to be made larger or thicker. Minimum Line Thickness: 1/8. White and light colors should be at least 1/4. Light background colors may show more dirt than a darker or neutral tone. We advise against the use of screens, tints, transparencies, and gradients because they are not easily converted to our color pallet. Over 150 Standard Print Colors.
