4 Being a TMHS Cheerleader What Should I Expect? Marshall Cheerleaders work hard. The squad trains to avoid injury and keep in shape. Weekly workouts include, but are not limited to, running, conditioning, and weight training. Marshall Cheerleaders practice after school Monday through Thursday until approximately 3:30 pm. occasionally, practice will need to be extended. In the event that practice will last longer than 3:30 pm, 24 hours notice will be given to all Marshall Cheerleaders by a coach. After-school practices are mandatory, as we review cheers, hang signs and practice jumps, tumbling and stunting. Make-up work and/or tutoring are not excuses for missing practice and should be taken care of before school. Marshall Cheerleaders are a team. If one person is absent, it affects the entire squad. We try to avoid excessive absences. Absences during the week of a pep rally will not be tolerated, as all participating cheerleaders are necessary to execute a successful pep rally. Marshall Cheerleaders notify their coaches prior to an absence, not the day of the absence. Marshall Cheerleaders understand that outside cheerleading or after-school jobs are not excuses for missing a game or practice. Marshall Cheerleaders do more than cheer at games. They also decorate hallways, paint signs, and host the pep rallies. All cheerleaders are expected to participate in these activities. Marshall cheerleaders have read, understand and follow the FBISD Cheer Handbook and the TMHS Cheer Handbook Varsity Cheerleaders Will Will cheer at all Varsity Football Games Will cheer at both fall and spring sports Will cheer at ALL Playoff Games Will fundraise for the team two times per year JV Cheerleaders Will Will cheer at JV Football Games Will cheer at the Homecoming Game Will cheer at both fall and spring sports Will fundraise for the team two times per year - 2 -

10 Marshall High School Cheerleader Parent Expectations Be supportive of your cheerleader. This year will be strenuous on your cheerleader and usually on your schedule, as well. Support your cheerleader, knowing that cheering develops cooperative skills, respect for others and leadership skills that wouldn t otherwise be refined. Take all concerns to the source first. Should you hear a rumor or have a problem with one of the coaches or another parent, take those to the coach before talking about them with others. Many painful and unnecessary confrontations can be avoided by going directly to the source. Meetings with the coaches can be scheduled during the coach s conference times. Should the issue at hand not get resolved; another meeting will be scheduled with administration. Transportation Each cheerleader is responsible for getting herself to all specified events and practices on-time. Please make sure your daughter has a ride and is on-time to all games and practices. Your daughter is ultimately responsible and will face consequences for being late or not being able to go based on a lack of or undependable transportation
