2 Catch The Art Wave If the Romans those original masters of mosaics had surfboards, they might have done the same. Seven mosaic-tiled surfboards are up for auction along with other unique and unusual offerings in the second Ilan-Lael Foundation art auction we re calling Catch The Art Wave. Along with surfboard art, there are two stained glass windows and other James Hubbell artworks from the old Triton Restaurant in Cardiff, donated by the building s developers Steve Blumkin and Steve Goldberg and Phil Berkowitz; a pair of stained glass panels donated by Deborah Szekely; a week for two at fitness resort and spa Rancho La Puerta (value $7000 plus!); a one-of-a-kind 4 by 6 rug created from a Hubbell artwork expressly for this auction by Steve Blumkin s Outrageous Rugs weavers; and more. This auction is truly a community effort and we want to say a huge thank you to all those who joined in the art-making fun! The Pacific Mosaic Youth Art Project, a community art project made possible by a grant from SDG&E. Used surfboards the mosaic s base forms were donated by Bessell Surfboards, Plus One Surfboards, and Coconut Pete s Surfboard Repair. Artists Brennan Hubbell and Garrett Goodwin were the lead artists who worked with students ages from ARTS (A Reason To Survive) in Barrio Logan, the Boys and Girls Club of San Diego County (National City branch), and students from Diego Hills Charter School in Lemon Grove in the art of mosaic design and crafting. Even Jim Hubbell got into the act, creating the board with black lacquer design shark bite design. Steve Blumkin, owner of Outrageous Rugs, took one of Jim s watercolors of Jeju Island and had it woven into a fine wool area rug by craftspeople in Nepal. Clearly the fun was contagious. But the real beneficiary is the Ilan-Lael Center, the future home of the Ilan-Lael Foundation. All proceeds from this auction will be applied to a matching grant opportunity to help complete its construction. Summer s here and there was never a better time to own a piece of art created or inspired by Jim Hubbell. Enjoy the auction and good luck!

I was lucky enough to be part of Pacific Rim Park in China, where I found my love - Cristo Bglez. This has changed my life forever. And that is what brought me to USA. I want to thank all the people who made that Park project happen! Without it my family, our little Sofia would not exist (scary!). We are grateful for everything! So now is time to give back.
