1 CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) New Curriculum - Available from 1 August 2007 CCNA certification is the first level of Cisco Career certification and indicates a foundation knowledge of networking. It validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN. The new curriculum includes basic mitigation of security threats, introduction to wireless networking concepts and terminology, and performance-based skills as well as the use of these protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Routing Information Protocol Version 2 (RIPv2),VLANs, Ethernet, access control lists (ACLs). Certification Requirements: Required Recommended Training - New Curriculum - Exams Available from 1 August CCNA (Fast track) Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 1 (ICND1) 5 days Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 2 (ICND2) OR ICND1 Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 1 (ICND1) 5 days ICND2 Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 2 (ICND2) 5 days Re-certification CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, either pass the current CCNA exam, or pass the ICND2 exam Audience Network administrators and technicians (new to Cisco products), who are responsible for implementing and managing small to medium sized networks. Course Outlines follow: CCNA Fast Track Programme 5 days Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 1 (ICND1) 5 days Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 2 (ICND2) 5 days Tel: Fax: of 6

2 CCNA FAST TRACK PROGRAMME Overview: Based on the Authorised Cisco ICND1 and ICND2 courses, this 5 day CCNA Boot Camp provides a proven and intense program to help you achieve your CCNA certification. You will be provided with self paced E-learning prior to the course which should be completed prior to attendance to ensure you obtain the maximum benefit from the 5 days Instructor Led Training. These 5 days are slightly longer than the usual training day and will be fairly intense to ensure that you have both the skills and knowledge needed not just to pass the exam but to use within your workplace. The Cisco CCNA certification is an important stepping stone for network professionals looking for a successful career in the Cisco Networking arena. CCNA validates a student s ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks, as well as implementing and verifying connections to remote sites in a WAN. The revised CCNA has greater breadth including more coverage of security and troubleshooting as well as an introduction to wireless concepts and terminology. The new curriculum will provide more compelling lab exercises with more time for hands on practice with labs increasing from approx 30% to 50%. The cost of this course incorporates a exam voucher for the combined CCNA exam ( ) however we strongly recommend that the exam is not attempted until at least two weeks after the course. Who will benefit? Individuals who possess a general networking background, have some experience with Cisco IOS, and are seeking CCNA certification should consider this class as the quickest way to meet the requirements of the CCNA exam. At the end of the course, delegates will be able to: Describe how networks function, identifying major components, function of network components and the Open System Interconnection (OSI) reference model Using the host-to-host packet delivery process, describe issues related to increasing traffic on an Ethernet LAN and identify switched LAN technology solutions to Ethernet networking issues Describe the reasons for extending the reach of a LAN and the methods that can be used with a focus on RF wireless access Describe the reasons for connecting networks with routers and how routed networks transmit data through networks using TCP/IP Describe the function of Wide Area Networks (WANs), the major devices of WANs, and configure PPP encapsulation, static and dynamic routing, PAT and RIP routing Use the command-line interface to discover neighbours on the network and managing the router s startup and configuration Review how to configure and troubleshoot a small network Expand the switched network from a small LAN to a medium-sized LAN with multiple switches, supporting VLANs, trunking and spanning tree Describe routing concepts as they apply to a medium-sized network and discuss considerations when implementing routing on the network Configure, verify and troubleshoot OSPF Configure, verify and troubleshoot EIGRP Determine how to apply ACLs based on network requirements, and to configure, verify, and troubleshoot ACLs on a mediumsized network Describe when to use NAT or PAT on a mediumsized network, and configure NAT or PAT on routers Identify and implement the appropriate WAN technology based on network requirements Tel: Fax: of 6
