2 FORM A ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR (Instructional Degree Program) (Degree Level) August 2012 to July 2013 July 30, 2013 Expanded Statement of Institutional Purpose Linkage: Institutional Mission Reference: The Department s link to the College s Mission statement is to create intellectual opportunities for members of the learning community. College/University Goal(s) Supported: a. The Department will maintain or enhance programs in areas of core competency. Intended Educational (Student) Outcomes: 1. Students graduating with a degree in will demonstrate knowledge of major techniques and theories of Accounting. 2. Students graduating with a degree in will be able to demonstrate knowledge of other areas of business. 3. Students graduating with a degree in will demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of Accounting and general business to real-world situations
3 FORM B ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR (Instructional Degree Program) (Degree Level) August 2012 to July 2013 July 2013 Intended Educational (Student) Outcome: NOTE: There should be one form C for each intended outcome listed on form B. Intended outcome should be restated in the box immediately below and the intended outcome number entered in the blank spaces. 1 Students graduating with a degree in will demonstrate knowledge of major techniques and theories of Accounting. First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above: 1 a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success: Graduating students will take the ACAT Exam in Business for the sub-fields of accounting and finance. We would like to have scores above the percentile range. Students take the ACAT during the semester in which they will graduate. The exam is mandatory and administered on Saturday mornings throughout the semester. 1 a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected: Seven accounting students scored in the 62 th percentile range in Accounting. Two accounting students scored 96% and 87% percentiles in overall scores. The seven students scored overall in the 49% percentile. These scores came from the testing year. 1 a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program: Although the sample of seven students is small, use of these results is as follows: a) require the Business Finance course prior to the ACAT exam and monitor future results in Corporate Finance. b) Evaluate the number of accounting courses taken prior to taking the ACAT exam. As noted supra, two of the seven students scored significantly above the results of the other five students in the accounting part of the exam. The ACAT exam will be used in the 2012/2013 academic year to compare results with scores of this year. However, the ACAT will be administered as part of a senior level course rather than on Saturday morning. Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above: 1 b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success: 1 b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:

5 FORM C ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR (Instructional Degree Program) (Degree Level) August 2012 to July 2013 July 30, 2013 Intended Educational (Student) Outcome: NOTE: There should be one form C for each intended outcome listed on form B. Intended outcome should be restated in the box immediately below and the intended outcome number entered in the blank spaces. 2 Students graduating with a degree in will be able to demonstrate knowledge of other areas of business. First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above: 2 a. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success: The sub-score on the ACAT in Management will be used to assess this outcome. Graduates will perform at the 50 th percentile level. 2 a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected: The three accounting student scores for related courses are as follows: Management 38 th percentile 2 a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program: The management sequence (BUS 301, BUS 316, and BUS 317) was reviewed with the Business department faculty. The business department faculty moved the on-line courses to a new platform (PageOut) from the ecams platform to include discussion boards as a means of improving student comprehension of material. BUS 304 Business Finance is now a required course Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above: 2 b. Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success: The sub-score on the ACAT in Statistics will be used to assess this outcome. Graduates will perform at the 50 th percentile level.
6 2 b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected: The seven accounting graduates scored at the 75 st percentile in Statistics. 2 b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected: The faculty panel reviewed the content of papers produced by groups in BUS 413. The composite results are presented below: Item 1: Identification of corporate strategy: 2 Item 2: Identification of key assumptions: 2 Item 3: Evidence of strategy: 1.75 Item 4: Conclusion, Implications, & Consequences: 2.1 The criteria was met for 3 of the 4 items on the rubric. The fourth (Item 3 Evidence of the Strategy) was not met. The overall criteria of 2/3 was met. 3 a. Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program: After additional analysis, the faculty concluded that the SWOT analysis was presented in some projects as a bullet list rather than in a narrative that clearly outlined the logic and conclusions students reached.
