1 LittleOwlsHut Crochet and Knitting (scarf) Pattern By Galina Astashova Skill level: Experienced White Rooster About this pattern Materials and tools The toy is crocheted in continuous spirals without joining the rounds. You will need a stitch marker to keep track of where the beginning of each round starts. Move the marker up to the first stitch of the next round after finishing the previous one. If you don't have a stitch marker you can always use a scrap of contrasting yarn instead. You can see it in my photos. I use USA terminology for my pattern (don t worry if you use UK terms, all the differences are explained in the pattern). Finished size Approx. 24 cm (9.4 inches) tall when seated using the materials stated in the pattern. Happy crocheting! ü Yarn: - white color yarn for the body (main yarn) I divided slightly more than two skeins of Lotus Travka Stretch by Kamteks (70% acrylic, 28% polyamide, 2% lycra, 80m/50g) in two strands (fluffy and smooth) and used only fluffy part. You can buy this yarn here You can use any fluffy yarn than can be slightly brushed up. See Gauge section to know if you have chosen the correct yarn. Note: if you need other yarn too please ask lady from above shop via private message. She may be able to put it up for sale also. - beige and orange color yarn for the legs, eyes, wattle and beak - I used small amount of Trikotazhnaya by Pehorka (50% wool, 50% acrylic, 100g/780m) - white color yarn for the eyes I used small amount of

2 LittleOwlsHut Crochet pattern 2016 Nubuk by Kartopu (22% acrylic, 78% polyamide, 100g\550m). - five different colors of yarn for the scarf I used small amounts of Jeans by YarnArt (55% cotton, 45% acrylic, 160m/50g) Tip: See GAUGE SECTION to check if you have chosen the correct yarn. ü Matching steel crochet hooks. I used 1.15 mm for the main yarn, 1.0 mm for the beak, legs and eyes/ ü A pair of straight knitting needles to knit the scarf I used 2.5 mm. Single core copper PVC electrical wire approximately 500 cm (approximately 200 inches) long, mm in diameter. ü Two ready-made eyes (I used 7-9 mm in diameter). ü Any stuffing. ü Sewing thread of matching colors for sewing small pieces. ü Sewing needle and tapestry needle for needle sculpting. ü Wooden stick for stuffing hard-to-get places. Tip: If you don t have special sticks for stuffing, it is very convenient to stuff hard-to-get-to places using wooden sticks, toothpicks (if opening is very small), or brushes of different thickness with wooden handles. ü Fabric tape cm wide to work up the wire (the one you use to cover wounds). ü Brush to brush up the toy. ü Any material for tinting. ü Strong thread for needle sculpting. 2

3 LittleOwlsHut Crochet pattern 2016 Tip (make it right) If there are no special notes, the toy is crocheted under both parts of the loop. In some rows, there are special notes: into the front loop only or into the back loop only. In that case, you need to follow these instructions. Tip (make it right) When making toys the right side looks like this: And the backside looks like this: Abbreviations CROCHET ch = chain st = stitch sl st = slip stitch sc = single crochet inc = increasing (2 sc in 1 st) double inc = 3 sc in one st dec = decreasing (2 sc together) double dec = sc3tog = single crochet 3 sts together sc4tog = single crochet 4 sts together Rnd = round dc = double crochet KNITTING st st = stocking stitch (K on the one side, P on the other side) TIP (yarn) If you use different yarn, the toy will be bigger or smaller and you will need more or less yarn and wire than stated in the pattern (i.e. thicker yarn will produce a larger toy and you may require more yarn). If there is a record in the brackets in the pattern, multiplied by some number, for example (3 sc, 1 inc) x 3, it means you need to repeat this action 3 times, that is 3 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc, 1 inc. Tip (gauge) When making toys, you should use a much smaller hook than recommended for the yarn you choose. Make sure you crochet tight enough; otherwise, the stuffing will show through the holes. Minimal shaping. Projects using yarn with basic stitches, repetitive stitch patterns, simple color changes, and simple shaping and finishing. Projects using a variety of techniques, such as basic lace patterns or color patterns, mid-level shaping and finishing. Projects with intricate stitch patterns, techniques and dimension, such as non-repeating patterns, multicolor techniques, fine threads, small hooks, detailed shaping and refined finishing.

4 LittleOwlsHut Crochet pattern 2016 GAUGE (VERY IMPORTANT) Crochet 4 swatches using all yarns mentioned in the Materials and tools section and matching crochet hooks first to make sure that you have chosen the right yarn (use smaller hook than suggested on the yarn label). Crochet tightly. Instruction for all swatches: Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring Rnd 2: 6 inc = 12 sts Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) x 6 = 18 sts Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) x 6 = 24 sts Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) x 6 = 30 sts Rnd 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) x 6 = 36 sts Rnd 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) x 6 = 42 sts Compare your swatches. All swatches should be as in the picture. If not, take bigger or smaller hooks than you used before (depending on the result) and work another swatches. If it does not help choose different yarn and make other swatches. Note: I don t leave tails at the end of the pieces because I sew them using sewing threads of matching colors. You can leave tails if you want when you fasten off and use them to sew the pieces. Do not stuff the toy until it is said to stuff. You should finish the wire frame before stuffing the toy. Otherwise, it will be very hard to insert the wire frame after stuffing. Tip (shift stitches) If you crochet with the gauge mentioned in the GAUGE section, you don t have to make any other additional shift stitches than mentioned in the pattern. 1 body 2, 3 legs, beak, wattle 4 eyes Gauge for the yarn for the scarf: 4

Brush the rooster. Stuff the eyes. Make them ovalshaped by making a zigzag stitches at the back (see picture). Sew or glue the pupils. Feet (make 2) beige color yarn and matching crochet hook Start with toes. Toe (make 3 for each foot total 6) Rnd 1. 6 sc in magic ring Rnd 2. 6 inc = 12 sts Rnds sc in each st around = 12 sts Rnd 8. (1 sc, 1 dec) x 4 = 8 sts Rnds sc in each st around = 8 sts Fasten off the first two toes, do not fasten off the third toe continue directly onto the toe. The 3 rd toe is now referred to as the 1 st toe. Note: Please read Foot section to the end before you start crocheting. If you think it is too hard to insert the wire frame when the piece is finished, feel free to start inserting it earlier as you crochet the foot, for example, after Rnd 8. Join the toes to form the foot: Rnd 1. 4 sc along the 1 st toe, 4 sc along the 2 nd toe, 8 sc along the 3 rd toe, 4 sc along the 2 nd toe, 4 sc along the 1 st toe = 24 sts Rnd 2. 1 sc in each st around = 24 sts Rnd 3. 1 dec, 8 sc, 2 dec, 8 sc, 1 dec = 20 sts Rnd 4. 1 sc in each st around = 20 sts Rnd 5. 1 dec, 6 sc, 2 dec, 6 sc, 1 dec = 16 sts Rnd 6. 1 sc in each st around = 16 sts Rnd 7. 1 dec, 4 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc, 1 dec = 12 sts Rnd 8. 1 sc in each st around = 12 sts Rnd 9. 1 dec, 4 sc, 1 dec, 4 sc = 10 sts Rnds sc in each st around = 10 sts Rnd sc, ch 3, skip 3, 4 sc = 10 sts Rnd sc in each st around = 10 sts Rnd inc, 4 sc, 3 inc = 16 sts Rnds sc in each st around = 16 sts Rnd 20. 6 LittleOwlsHut Crochet pattern 2016 Rnd 21. (1 sc, 1 dec) x 4 = 8 sts Rnd dec = 4 sts Fasten off, close up the opening and weave in loose ends. Shape the wire frame for the foot and the leg using picture below as a reference. Work the end with fabric tape. Insert the wire frame into the foot. I use thin copper wire approximately 80 cm/31.5 inches long (for the toy of the size stated in the pattern). The wire of the foot s wire frame is also the wire frame of the leg, body, head and comb.
