4 Getting Started Note: Before you can start using Instant with BlackBerry, you must install ActiveSync on your computer from the Companion CD. ActiveSync is already installed on your device. Install Instant with BlackBerry 1. Connect your device to your computer. 2. Double-click the Instant client setup fi le to launch the setup wizard. Click Next. 3. Click Install. 4. On the Installing Applications screen click Yes. 5. Check the MDA screen for additional prompts. A welcome screen appears when the installation is complete. Start Instant with BlackBerry The Instant with BlackBerry service enables you to access your Internet (ISP) accounts through your device. If you are using BlackBerry Solution, see page 9. Prerequisite: To use Instant with BlackBerry, the following requirements must be met: You must be subscribed to the Instant with BlackBerry service from T-Mobile. The Instant with BlackBerry application must be installed on your device. The wireless radio of your device must be turned ON, and you must be in an area of sufficient wireless coverage. 4
5 You can also create your account for the T-Mobile Instant with BlackBerry service at the appropriate web site: United Kingdom: Germany: Austria: Netherlands: 1. Tap Start > Settings. 2. Tap the System tab. 3. Tap On the Instant with BlackBerry setup screen, tap Next. 5. Read the End User License Agreement carefully, and scroll to the very bottom. 6. If you accept the terms of the End User License Agreement, tap Accept. Your PIN is sent and the service is started. The browser opens to the provisioning page. Note: The Accept button is enabled when you scroll to the very bottom of the End User License Agreement. Do not tap Accept if you do not agree to the terms of the End User License Agreement. If you have any questions or concerns about the terms of the End User License Agreement, contact Research In Motion. 7. If you accept the legal terms and conditions, tap I Agree. Note: Do not tap I Agree if you do not agree to the Legal Terms & Conditions. If you have any questions or concerns about the Legal Terms & Condition, contact Research In Motion or T-Mobile. 5
6 8. Complete the following fi elds: User ID Field Friendly Name Password Re-enter Password Description Type the login name for your account. Your login name forms the fi rst part of your default address. Type the name that you want to appear in the From fi eld of the messages that you send. Type a password for your account. Passwords must contain four to eight characters and are case-sensitive. Retype your password. 9. Select a secret question. If you forget your password, you are prompted with this question. 10. In the Secret Answer fi eld, type the answer to your secret question. 11. Tap Submit. 12. Tap Done. Log in to the Settings of Instant with BlackBerry 1. On the status bar, tap. 2. Tap Settings. 3. Complete the following fi elds: Field User ID Password Description Type the login name for your account. Type the password for your account Tap Submit.
7 Add an Internet Account to Your Instant with BlackBerry Account 1. On the status bar, tap. 2. Log in to Instant with BlackBerry. See procedure on the previous page for more information. 3. Tap Add Account. 4. Complete the following fi elds: Field Address User Name Password Re-enter Password Description Type the full address of the account (for example, Type your login ID (for example, username). Type the password for your account. Retype your password. 5. Tap Submit. 6. Depending on your type of account, you might be prompted to complete the following fi elds: Account type Field Description POP3/IMAP Server Type the mail server address for your service provider (for example, mail.ispname.com). If you do not know the address, contact your service provider. Port Number Type the appropriate port number. If you do not know the number, contact your service provider. 7
8 Microsoft Exchange Lotus Domino Outlook Web Access URL Mailbox Name inotes URL Type the URL for your Microsoft Outlook account web site. Type the mailbox name for your Microsoft Outlook account. Type the URL for your IBM Lotus Notes account web site. Note: If you add a Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino account, you might be prompted to install the mail connector application on your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the mail connector. 7. Tap Submit. Note: You can add up to 10 Internet Accounts for the use with the Instant with BlackBerry service. 8
9 Start Your Corporate Account The corporate service (BlackBerry Solution) enables you to access your corporate account on your device through the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If you are using the Instant with BlackBerry service in connection with your Internet Accounts, see page 4. Prerequisite: To use the BlackBerry Solution, the following requirements must be met: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server installed within the company s infrastructure must be associated with your corporate account. You must be subscribed to the Instant with BlackBerry service from T-Mobile. The Instant with BlackBerry application must be installed on your device. The wireless radio of your device must be turned ON, and you must be in an area of sufficient wireless coverage. 1. Tap Start > Settings. 2. Tap the System tab. 3. Tap. 4. On the Instant with BlackBerry setup screen, tap the drop-down menu. 5. Tap BlackBerry Solution. 6. Tap Next. 7. Read the End User License Agreement carefully, and scroll to the very bottom. 8. To accept the terms of the End User License Agreement, tap Accept. Your PIN is sent and the service is started. Note: The Accept button is enabled when you scroll to the very bottom of the End User License Agreement.Do not tap Accept if you do not agree to the terms of the End User License Agreement. If you have any questions or concerns about the terms of the End User License Agreement, contact Research In Motion. 9. Set up the desktop software. See procedure shown below for more information. 9
10 Set up the Desktop Software 1. Insert the device in the cradle. 2. In the New Partnership dialog box on your computer screen, select Standard partnership, if prompted. 3. Click Next. 4. Open the BlackBerry Confi guration tool. 5. Click the Advanced tab. 6. Verify that the fi eld displays your address. 7. Click the General tab. 8. Click Connect. 9. At the prompt, move the mouse to generate an encryption key. A PIN number appears in the PIN fi eld. Service Status Icons An icon on the status bar at the top of the screen displays the status of the Instant with BlackBerry service. Icon Description You can send and receive messages. You cannot send or receive messages. The status of the device is transitioning to. 10 Your device is not in an area of wireless coverage, or another application has been using the device radio for several minutes. You cannot send or receive messages. Any pending messages are sent after you return to an area of wireless coverage, or after the radio becomes available.
11 Managing Instant with BlackBerry Suspend and resume Instant with BlackBerry 1. Tap Start > Settings. 2. Tap the System tab. 3. Tap. 4. Tap the Status tab. 5. To suspend the service, tap Suspend. OR To resume the service, tap Resume. Disable Instant with BlackBerry You can return your device to the state it was in prior to activating Instant with BlackBerry. 1. Tap Start > Settings. 2. Tap the System tab. 3. Tap. 4. Tap the Status tab. 5. Tap Uninstall. Note: All account related data, including all s within the associated inbox, are deleted. Restart Instant with BlackBerry 1. Tap Start > Settings. 2. Tap the System tab. 3. Tap. 4. Tap the Status tab. 5. Tap Restart. 11
12 Setting Message Options You can customize the following message options for all messages. Option Description Default Auto More Wireless Synchronization Confl icts Delete On Set Auto More 1. Tap Start > Settings. 2. Tap the System tab. 3. Tap. 4. Tap the Options tab. Set whether the next section of a long message or attachment is delivered to your device automatically. Set whether messages, folders, and deleted items are reconciled over the wireless network between your device and your computer or Instant Account if this option is enabled, messages marked as read in one location are also marked as read in the other location. Messages fi led in a folder on the computer or Instant Account are fi led in the corresponding folder on the device. Set whether your device or your computer takes precedence if a message is moved or deleted from both locations. Set whether messages are deleted from your device only or from both your device and computer during reconciliation. 5. Select the Enable Auto More check box. 13 Set Wireless Reconciliation 1. Tap Start > Settings. 2. Tap the System tab. 3. Tap. 4. Tap the Services tab. 5. Tap a service book. 6. Tap the Synchronization tab. 7. Select the Enable Wireless Synchronization check box. 8. From the Confl icts drop-down list, tap an option. 9. From the Delete on drop-down list, tap an option. Tip: When you have Wireless Synchronization enabled, you can synchronize your messages, folders, and deleted items immediately by tapping Synchronize Now. Messages in your Deleted Items folder will only be permanently deleted from your device. To permanently remove deleted messages from your computer or Instant Account tap Purge Deleted Items. messages that are sent from or received by your device are routed through an existing account. 13
14 Sending and Receiving Messages Open a Message 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. Tap the Folder drop-down arrow. Note: Each service appears as a separate account. To view the folders in the account that you want to use, tap the plus sign beside that account. 3. Tap a folder. 4. Tap a message. Request More of a Message If, on the Instant with BlackBerry options screen, you did not select the Enable Auto More check box, you can request more of a long message manually. 1. Open a message. See procedure above for more information. 2. At the end of the message, tap and hold More Available. 3. Perform one of the following tasks: To request the next section of the message, tap More. To request the remainder of the message, tap More All. 14
15 Send a Message 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. Tap New. Note: The new message will be sent from the account that is currently active. To change this account, tap Accounts on the Messages screen. Tap an account. 3. Tap in the To fi eld. 4. Type the address of one or more recipients. 5. Tap in the Subj fi eld. 6. Type a subject. 7. Tap the text area. 8. Type a message. 9. Tap. Note: You can reply to the sender, reply to all, or forward a message. Tap and hold the message, or tap and hold in the text area if the message is open. Tap Reply, Reply All, or Forward. Send a Message to a Contact 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. Tap New. Note: The new message will be sent from the account that is currently active. To change this account, tap Accounts on the Messages screen. Tap an account. 15
16 3. Perform one of the following tasks: Tap To. Tap. 4. Tap a contact. Tip: To add additional contacts to your message, tap. Tap Cc or Bcc. Tap a contact. 5. To continue composing your message, perform one of the following tasks: Tap To. Tap. 6. Tap in the Subj fi eld. 7. Type a subject. 8. Tap the text area. 9. Type a message. 10. Tap. Finding Entries in Your Company's Global Address Book Note: This feature is only available if you are using a corporate account On the status bar, tap > Lookup. 2. Tap the Lookup field. 3. Type a contact name. 4. Tap Lookup. 5. Tap a Lookup result.
17 6. Perform one of the following tasks: Tap a contact. Tap and hold a contact. Select one of the following menu items: Menu Item Add Add All Delete Delete Lookup Description adds the selected contact to your contacts database adds all Lookup contacts to your contacts database deletes the selected contact from the Lookup results deletes the Lookup results Delete a Message Note: If, on the Instant with BlackBerry options screen, the Delete On option is set to Mailbox & Handheld, messages that you delete on your device are also deleted from your computer or Instant Account during reconciliation. 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. In the Messages list, tap and hold the message that you want to delete. 3. Tap Delete. 17
18 Handling Attachments Note: This feature is only available if you are using a corporate account with BlackBerry Solution. Up-/ and download of attachments is restricted to 30 KB attachment size. Attachment status icons Icons Description Default status. Your device does not support this attachment format, or the attachment is too large. The request is pending. Your device encountered an error during the download. Tap the icon to review the error. View an Attachment 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. Tap a message that contains an attachment. 3. Tap the Attachments tab. 4. Tap and hold the attached fi le. 5. Perform one of the following tasks: Action View content in the native application Procedure 1. Tap and hold. 2. Tap Download. 3. When changes to, tap. 18
19 View content in the attachment viewer View the table of contents in the attachment viewer 1. Tap and hold. 2. Tap Retrieve Content. 3. Tap View Content. Note: Some fi les might be password protected. To type the password for the attachment, tap Set Password. 4. Tap Tools > More to view more of the attachment. 1. Tap and hold. 2. Tap Retrieve Table of Contents. 3. Tap View Table of Contents. 4. Tap Tools > More to view more of the attachment. Download an Attachment 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. Tap a message that contains an attachment. 3. Tap the Attachments tab. 4. Tap and hold. 5. Tap Download. 19
20 Add an Attachment to a Message New messages are sent from the account that is currently active. To change this account, on the messages screen, tap Accounts. 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. Tap New. 3. Tap Edit. 4. Tap Add Attachment. 5. From the Folder drop-down list, select a folder. 6. From the Type drop-down list, select a fi le type. 7. Tap a fi le. Note: When you add an attachment to an , the icon indicates that the attachment will be sent directly from the device. The status bar at the bottom of the screen indicates the maximum attachment fi le size that is supported. If the attachment is too large, the Send button is disabled. 8. To continue composing your message, tap the Message tab. Forward a Message that contains an Attachment 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. Tap a message that contains an attachment. 3. Tap Forward. Note: When you forward an that contains an attachment, the icon indicates that the server will append the attachment to the message before sending the message to recipients. 4. To continue composing your message, tap the Message tab. 20
21 Save an Attachment 1. Tap Start > Inbox. 2. Tap a message that contains an attachment. 3. Tap the Attachments tab. 4. Tap and hold. 5. Tap Save As. 6. Type a name for the fi le. 7. From the Folder drop-down list, tap a folder. 8. From the Location drop-down list, tap a location. 9. Tap OK. Note: You must download an attachment before you can save it. 21
22 Working with the Calendar If you are using Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Notes, calendar entries automatically synchronize wirelessly so that entries on your device and in your desktop calendar program are identical. Create an Appointment 1. Tap Start > Calendar. 2. Tap New. 3. Add information to the appropriate fi elds. Tip: To see a full list of fi elds, close the input panel. 4. Tap OK. Modify an Appointment 1. Tap Start > Calendar. 2. Perform one of the following actions: Action Procedure Update an appointment 1. Tap the appointment. 2. Tap Edit. 3. Change the information. 4. Tap OK. Delete an appointment 1. Tap and hold the appointment. 2. Tap Delete Appointment. 3. Tap Yes. 22
23 Meetings If you are using Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Notes, meetings automatically synchronize wirelessly so that entries on your device and in your desktop calendar program are identical. Create a Meeting 1. Tap Start > Calendar. 2. Tap New. 3. Tap Attendees. 4. Tap the attendee to invite. Tip: To see a full list of fi elds, close the input panel. 5. Tap OK. Modify a Meeting 1. Tap Start > Calendar. 2. Perform one of the following actions: Action Update a meeting Delete a meeting Procedure Tap the meeting. Tap Edit. Tap the meeting. Tap Delete. 23

25 About Service Books T-Mobile uses service books to confi gure your Instant with BlackBerry application. Service books set the default application settings. Note: Depending on whether you subscribe to the BlackBerry Solution or the Instant with BlackBerry service, different service books will be sent to your device. View Service Books 1.
