1 October 20th, 2016 KYNETON PRIMARY SCHOOL 7-15 Baynton Street, KYNETON. Vic Phone: Principal s Message Upcoming Events FETE Congratulations to our entire Kyneton Primary School community on what was an absolutely sensational day for the school last Saturday. Our Fete brought the whole town together to celebrate everything that makes Kyneton such a unique and vibrant place to live and learn. It was a massive team effort and I thank whole heartedly everyone that was involved in making the day such a special occasion. Without any doubt special recognition needs to go to Julia Boyle and her organising team of volunteers that worked tirelessly for months prior to the event and on the day, they really know how to put on a show. I would also like to especially thank the KPS staff for their work and attendance on the day. I know that Sharon Wilkes attended the many evening Fete meetings in preparation for the day keeping that important link functioning between staff and parents. It is always wonderful to see staff and parents working together for the benefit of our school. As soon as we know the final figures it will be announced how much was raised and I m sure our KPS children will enjoy the benefits of the money in the very near future as we allocate it to special projects at the new school. It is our commitment to the community that we will be very clear about what the money is spent on so we can celebrate this together. Overall, the Fete was such a magnificent school community event which again revealed the very special school we have in an extraordinarily special town. 2 Classroom Awards Well done to the students who received classroom awards: Charlie, Sharni, Charlie, Thomas, Hayden, Jett, Jackson. T/20 Blast Cricket Competition Castlemaine 16 th October 2016 On Monday the 16 th October, Students represented our school in Cricket in the form of T/20 Blast. Our school entered both a boys team, and a girls team. Each team played 3 rounds as well as a grand final. The day went well in our favour as both teams took out the win which sees them progress to the next rounds in Ballarat on the 23 rd November. Good luck to you all. Spare uniforms If anyone has any spare uniforms that are no longer needed (size 6-8) track pants or shirts they would be greatly appreciated for the school spare clothes cupboard. Please make sure any tags with students names are cut off. Donations can be left at the office. Thank you. Permission Forms Permission notices given to children for excursions/incursions now have barcodes to scan to finalise payments. Please ensure these notices are returned before the day of the event, with payment to ensure your child s participation. Please speak to your child/children about bringing notes home and passing them on to you. Thank you Lost on Fete Day On Saturday during the fete a young girl lost her purple unicorn near the Trash and Treasure. It was sitting on the seat along with a mouse and tiny teddy with a scarf. The main issue is the purple unicorn. If you bought or got the unicorn at the Fete could you please return it to Mrs Wilkes in room 7. A reward is being offered for the return of the Unicorn and/or a refund will be given. Thankyou Mrs Wilkes. Bug-A-Lugs Outside School Hour Care Bug-A-Lugs are happy to announce they will be continuing to provide After School/Holiday Care and will also be extending to Before School Care in 2017.

3 The Victorian Maths Challenge is now open and we are encouraging families with children in Years 5 to 8 to join in the fun. The Challenge provides a range of hands-on, open-ended and interactive activities that promote problem solving. Whether it s erecting a paper tower in the Eureka Challenge, making estimations in the Paper Planes Challenge or building and keeping a boat afloat in the Titanic Challenge, there is a challenge to interest everyone in the family. With eight exciting challenges to choose from, each with videos and instructions to help families succeed, it s easy to get started. Each challenge has been designed to provide a relevant industry and careers context and links to the Victorian Curriculum. The Victorian Maths Challenge aims to increase confidence and engagement in mathematics by encouraging families to explore and discuss maths concepts every day. Family participation in learning is one of the most accurate predictors of a child s success in school and beyond. The Victorian Maths Challenge schools section has been created in partnership with the Mathematical Association of Victoria, who will moderate the site. Running until 29 November 2016, families can take on as many of the challenges as they like and share their experiences online, through photos, video or personal stories. For more information about the Challenge or to get started, see: I KPS t-shirts Remember to return your Colour Run Forms which is on 4th November. You can purchase your I KPS t-shirts from the school office.
