2 CNG & LNG Stations in Europe Some facts about the CNG / LNG infrastructure in Europe Austria Belgium 55 2 Bulgaria Czech Republic France 43 2 Germany Italy Netherlands Spain Sweden Switzerland U.K. 8 9 Public stations NGVA Europe is the European stakeholder that promotes the use of natural gas and renewable methane as a fuel mainly in vehicles and ships. It serves as a platform for the industry involved in the production and distribution of vehicles and natural gas. It defends their interests to European decision makers, to create accurate standards, fair regulations and equal market conditions. NGVA Europe creates networks with interested stakeholders to reach consensus on positions and actions. It also collects, records and communicates reliable facts and significant developments in the natural gas vehicle market. It was founded in 2008 and has more than 140 members from 40 countries. The catalogue offers a comprehensive overview of the current vehicles available, from light to medium and heavy duty, for both private and professional use. Smaller and lighter NGV s are similar in price to an equivalent diesel version. The slightly higher price for a bigger and heavier vehicle will be recovered within a relatively short time. Copyright NGVA Europe, June All information in this brochure has been provided by the manufacturers of the vehicles shown or from the information available on their official websites. Photo credits: Shutterstock, LC3 Logistics, CNG Fuels, Primagaz, main OEMs. Fuel cost per 100 km based on 1,10 /Kg (H-Gas) (average European price).
3 Natural Gas Vehicles in Europe What is a Natural Gas Vehicle, (NGV)? Natural Gas Vehicles use Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Natural Gas Vehicles emit less CO 2 and less pollutants, compared to petrol or diesel vehicles. Natural Gas Vehicles should not be confused with such powered by propane (LPG), which is a fundamentally different fuel. Where can I fill my car? Depending on the country, an extensive network of refueling points is already available and increasing. Cars equipped to use CNG also drive on petrol. An increasing number of stations are also available for LNG, mainly used by trucks. What is natural gas? Natural gas consists mainly of methane and is either fossil in origin or produced from renewable sources: Biomethane and synthetic natural gas (SNG). Natural gas and renewable methane can be mixed in any rate, up to 100%. Renewable methane is already blended with natural gas in many European countries, so the fuel for your vehicle may already contain gas from a renewable source. What are the benefits of driving a Natural Gas Vehicle? Driving on natural gas is safe, clean and more economical than petrol and diesel. And is it safe? Using and refueling a Natural Gas Vehicle is as safe as any other car, but also easier and cleaner to handle. The refueling nozzle simply clicks onto the receptacle on the vehicle and you are ready to start filling. When the cylinder for the gas is full, the dispenser automatically shuts off. Driving an NGV is not different to a petrol or diesel car, but it is cleaner, more economical and better for the environment.
