INT R O D U C T I O N This guide describes installing Read&Write Gold on a single computer. 1.1 Conventions used in this guide The style and conventions in this guide are designed to make reading it as clear and simple as possible. Conventions used for different types of information are discussed in the following sections. This guide explains how to install Read&Write Gold onto a single client computer 2

5 2. INSTALLING READ&WRITE GOLD 2.1 System requirements Before you can install Read&Write Gold, you must ensure that the computer has: Pentium 4 1.8GHz Processor (Recommended: Pentium 4 2.4GHz or greater) 512 MB RAM (Recommended: 1 GB RAM or greater) 2 GB free disk space Windows XP SP3 or above Internet connection for activation. 3

6 2.2 Install Read&Write Gold 1. To start the installation process you may either click on the Install Now link or download and extract the installer before running Setup.exe. Install Now is available on the Home page and the Installer on the Additional Installation Options page of the Texthelp Essentials website. If not already present on your machine the Microsoft Dot Net 4 Framework required by Read&Write will automatically get installed first. You see the Welcome to the Read&Write Installation Wizard window displayed. 2. Make sure there are no other programs running before you begin the installation. 3. Click on the Next button. You see the License Agreement window displayed. 4. Make sure you read the License Agreement thoroughly and then select the I accept the license agreement radio button. 5. Click on the Next button. You see the User Information window, which you use to personalize your installation. 6. Enter your name and the company you work for in the appropriate text boxes, and then enter your Read&Write Gold serial number in the Serial Number text box if it is not already populated. 4

7 7. Click on the Next button. You see the Destination Folder window, which you use to set up the main Installation folder. 8. If you want to set up the main Installation folder in a location other than the one displayed, click on the Browse button and browse to the location in the directory where you want to install Read&Write Gold. 9. Click Yes or No under Check for updates.. to determine if Read&Write should check for updates every time it loads. 10. Click Yes or No under Use Teachers Toolkit? to determine whether user s settings can be managed via the Teachers Toolkit. The Teachers Toolkit is a School 5 Feature and not applicable to Home Installations 11. Click on the Next button. 12. Click Next to complete installation.

8 3. A C T I V AT I N G R E A D & W R I T E G O L D When you run Read&Write Gold for the first time you will be prompted to activate the software. To activate the software, simply make sure you are currently online, enter your Serial Number and then click on the Activate button. Possible reasons for activation failure include: no internet connection the activation limit has been reached, i.e. the license you have purchased only allows for a certain amount of users cannot connect to the Texthelp Server. If this is the case, please try again later to activate 6
